TFW2005 member GenZhao has posted photos of the upcoming Hasbro Perceptor reissue. GenZhao confirms Hasbro’s Botcon news that this reissue has no spring in the missile launcher. This means the missiles didn’t have to be lengthened for safety laws, as they were for some other reissued G1 toys such as Skywarp, Thundercracker and Jazz.
This Perceptor reissue will be a Toys R Us exclusive, along with the set of G1 Insecticons. Look for them in TRU this September!

It's nice.

Excuse me????
He does have eyes.
What he doesnt have is a mouth, and neither did the G1 release.

I like Percepter better with eyes

Generally, TRU exclusives aren't that hard to find. Target ones last a couple weeks. Wal-Mart on the other hand… eesh!

I am in the same boat of people who prefer no spring and regular sized missiles for this Perceptor release.
Now I just wonder how hard this reissue, and the Insecticons will be to find at TRU once they are released.
Magnus’ Mate
Agreed.
But why is everyone forgetting that the ORIGINAL HASBRO 1980s releases of the Transformers did not have proper shooting missiles either? The launchers' springs were not completely removed, but they were neutered enough to make them effectively useless.
Is it nostalgia? Bad memory? Combination of both?

It's been four years since Takara reissued Perceptor, though. That sounds like a reasonable amount of time for them to do another production run.

I'd much rather deal the springless launchers than have those horrible looking oversized ones we got with Magnus, the seekers, etc. And honestly, even though I prefer to have the firing weapons on my G1 toys, price is also a factor. If I had known Hasbro was going to reissue Perceptor, I most likely would not have spent the extra money I did acquiring the Takara version.

The figure I really want is the original Shockwave. I couldn't give a rat's ass about Perceptor.

Thanks for the pics, GenZhao.
I read somewhere that leaving a missile plugged in too long eventually wears out the spring. Not sure if that's legit, but it's been years since I've used any of the spring-powered missile launchers that came with my toys. Perceptor not having a working missile launcher isn't going to be a problem for me.
frilly toothpick
pass. but i hope there will be more hasbro reissues in the near future.

Definitely will get him….
around how much??

Why the hell does it matter if the spring works?

Old enough to have the original but never bought it. The face plate disappoints me because it doesn't match the original animated character. But it still matches the original toy, except for the missing spring. A solution for the safety of the small missiles is to keep them in the box or glue them to the launchers. I'll probably buy the reissue Perceptor. But what I really want is a reissue and a Universe Wheeljack and don't care about the springs or missile issues. (no subliminal messages or innuendos intended).

That all may be absolutely true, but Hasbro needs to play by the rules that are on the books now. And they have to apply the strictest standard for all markets they sell Perceptor in.

Can't wait to get him! Don't care about missing spring I don't have the G1 original so I be happy to get this one
Wheelie
What you wrote there is a complete contradiction! You say that either the missiles need to be lengthened or the spring has to come out but if the spring is taken out the missiles are still short in which a child could still possibly swallow them. So taking the spring out has no effect on the missiles. I see no reason to take the spring out and make the gun not shoot. That spring also helps keep the trigger in position to the missile just doesn't pop right out. The missiles either need to be lengthened or taken out for the "Safety" of the children. I personally believe that the parents should take more precautions with the raising of their children and the Governments need to lighten up on their stringent "Safety" rules. I grew up as well as many others that grew up on the Generation One toys with swallowing any missiles or other issues. Things nowadays are being over documented and being blown out of proportion.
I can't wait for Perceptor as he was one of my top 10 G1 toys growing up.
Feralstorm
Shame about the gun, but considering I didn't even remember that Perceptor had a missile cannon in the first place, I'm not too concerned.

I don't care, the missile is jsut going to sit in there anyways, who displays them without the missile in there?
As far as the spring, everytime a comtemprary toy has one it is the worst thing ever, but now when an old toy is brought out it is the best thing ever.
