Transformers Revenge of the Fallen writer Roberto Orci answers more of your questions! In this latest batch of answers, he confirms that there are no triple changers in Transformers 2 unless you count combiners. In his own words:
Talked about it. Does a combiner count? We figure a triple changer is a good idea for part 3.Also covered in this round of questions – it is “certainly possible” that we will see more bickering between Megatron and Starscream, there will be “some more emphasis on the Transformers”, and Roberto and fellow writers Alex Kurtzman and Ehren Kruger have “talked about” the possibility of Optimus Prime combining with another robot or even his trailer.
Also, for all of you who have been trying to guess what Soundwave will turn into, when asked if anyone had been correct on their guess of Soundwave’s alternate mode, Roberto’s response was:
I don’t think so, but I haven’t seen all the guesses.
If you have a question that you would like to ask, you may do so in the Welcome Mr Roberto Orci you may ask him questions thread on our 2005 Boards!

What would Prime say?
"Calm down, calm down. You know Bay is going to spread false information…."
Nevertheless an interesting idea…
Easterling Capt
There is more to a leader then just his ability to fight.
and I really dont care whats writen in IDW or any other comic…a single robot even Megs and Prime would have an almost impossible mission to defet a combined form of a group. That is basic logic. See the G1 epiosode Masqurade were 5 bots fire EVERYTHING (including Prime) at Menasor and all Menasor say is…… "menasor not laugh".
Everybody needs a bit of extra powere here and there.
Railguard
Well some of the movie formers were a little flimsy when they were transformed. Its not really a surprise to me.
Autobot Spike
wow… lots of animosity for combining Ops. if combining with a fellow autobot to gain more power isn't overcoming adversity, then i dunno what is. i grew up with Optimus Prime and the other 'bots and the 'cons. every time things get crazy, they come up with some nutty idea that "just might work". so… imagine that Jetfire has battle armour… and he loans it to ops… that'd be ok, right? cause then Optimus could fly.. right? so… i dunno.. i see this as a "pilot to co-pilot" thing… Ops in the driver's seat, and Jetfire acting as his navigator/gunner/ whatever… of course.. then again…. maybe they'd better not. i dunno. i like to remind everyone that a big part of the target audience has been exposed to A/E/C. to some it is the first iteration of transformers. just like to some, Animated will be their first. it would be foolish for Hasbro, Bay, and Orci, and everyone else not to pay homage to these ideas and only look to G1 for inspiration. if you'd grown up with multiple types of robot combination i'm sure it would seem perfectly normal and fine.. and if Prime had always joined with another bot when things got super nutty, then… well that would be no big deal to you. just sayin.. also… Peanut butter cup.
'nuff said.

They could pull off a scene of prime with a trailer if they really wanted too.

^ No way. If he can't be called Devastator, the next best thing would be Constructicon, maybe. I dont think fans will like it if he was called Demolisher. For the toy he would be called Devastator, like Brawl was named Brawl for his toys. Stupid misnamed by the movie makers messed everything up.
Rodimus Primal
I'm okay with there being no triple changers although it would be cool if Megatron kept his jet mode and got a tank mode as well.
With Devestator I think that if they want to get away with not calling the combined Constructicons Devestator, they should call him Demolisher. It would make more sense that way IMHO.
Optimatron
First off Devestator is an original character and there were specific Gestalt teams..that was always the cool thing about it…they were the only ones who could do it…it made them special…then when Energon came around everyone and their brother was combining…I honestly think it made it the ability cheap…not to mention it really cheapened the significance of the character…and cheapened their ability to be a threat in my mind…..It was like saying…ohhh OP is a badass…but not that badass..he has to depend on the combining ability to face any sort of adversity. Prime is supposed to be able to pull through adversity and find ways to overcome a challenge…if he can't then why the fuck is he the leader?? Thats what leaders do. I honestly think they need to keep the characters and abilities as close to G1 as possible…A/E/C was just too far out there imo.
On a second note…if you don't think Prime can handle Devestator on his own, check out the original mini-series from IDW when Transformers came back on the comic scene….In issue 5…Prime charges Devy and blows his headoff.

They didn't use my screenplay either…

Chaos Prime
Oh Jeez. Haha! I really had to chuckle at this interview.
I love how Orci suggested that their was bickering between Megatron and Starscream in the first movie. Obviously he never watched his own film.
'Some' more emphasis on the Transformers? Don't get me wrong I love watching a two hour movie about Transformers, and end up having 90% of the film be about the humans. So what's his definition of more? 15 minutes of actual Transformers instead of 10 this time?
And personally, I think I've seen enough of Optimus Prime combining with another Transformer to achieve, 'Super ultimate, anime mode' Super modes are boring now.
Optimus Prime can kick ass by himself thank you very much.
I don't even know why I waste my time reading these things.
He's teasing everyone deliberately, and probably enjoying every minute of it too.
Grrr.
Autobot Spike
personally, i doubt prime could handle devastator on his own. not if Dev is gonna be made up of seven robots.. so… seven robots isn't gay… but two robots is?
We ARE talking Optimus Prime and Jetfire.
That's like saying wolverine combined with batman isn't an awesome thing to imagine in action
so what's the harm? Ops is all like "holy shit! that bad mo-fo is too much for us! Jetfire! we need to combine our strength!" and Jetfire's all like "Yeah Optimus! I'm on it! time to combine forces and take this bastard DOWN!!!"
well… anyway i think it would be cool if both characters were treated as bad-ass in their own right.. and became even MORE bad-ass together. like a centaur… or a griffin…. or a Reeses cup.
if reeses had been all like " yeah man, i like peanut butter on celery a whole lot but… peanut butter and chocolate? Chocolate is so bad-ass already, combining it with peanut butter would just be gay."
then the badassery of the "cup" would never have been realised.
just a thought.

Ruination04
You know…at thi point, I don't care who turns into what or anything. When I first found out that the movie wasn't gonna be G1, I hated it! But once I saw the movie I loved it. I am gonna trust the film makers to do what is best for the movie and leave it at that. I'm sure it will be good. Do I want Prime to combine with someone? Not really, but if he does, I think it will done with a lot of
Dropshot
I think it refers to the possibility of Megatron retaining his jet mode, besides his already shown tank mode. SO this means he will only be a tank, and his boosters are for extra propulsion.
AntiGod
Prime combined with his trailer? Powermaster Optimus Prime!!!!
Rodimus Mike
I really would love for Prime to get a trailer, but not combine with it,or any others for
that matter. As bad a** as Prime was in 1 he don't need it.But as for other combiners
in ROTF I would love them to do Superion or Defensor to fight Devastator. And who knows
they may be in the movie,as we don't know the full character line-up.
samtheman
tftm =/= g1
Teh-Shewz
I kinda want to c prime combine with his trailer.
Sound wave hasss to be the SR71, the engines would be great for his shoulder cannon.
Optimatron
ehhhh I think the idea of Prime combining with another transformer is freakin' stupid. Combining with his trailer ehhh still some A/E/C lame crap…but not as bad as combining with another character. OP should transform his trailer into a battle station or parts of it into a bigass gun or something..maybe open it up and get out a big ass gun….
I think Prime connecting with another character is like saying he can't be a badass on his own and have always thought it's a smack in the face to the character. Always have
Bumblethumper
I think doing a realistic version of the typical Blitzwing-style triple changer with 2 realistic earth vehicle modes would be too tall an order, but the recent Megatron design could work as a triple-changer.
I can see it working where one or more modes is a cybertronian. It could also work for something like Snapdragon, like where one alt mode is earth based and the other alt is a robotic dinosaur/beast mode. Other than that, I think they'd have great difficulty pulling it off, making it look plausible, and the toy would be probably be a disappointment. There's more leeway for this sort of thing in a cartoon.
As for the Optimus combiner thing, I'm down with a Powermaster Prime style combining trailer, but the 2 robot combiner mode idea has always been a bit gay.
Joe1
i thought blitzwing would be nice, and astrotrain even better, but i would prefer a combiner over a triple changer any day. a astrotrain vs jetfire fight would be cool tho.
