eBay seller Auction from Hell has listed several auctions for original Generation 1 animation cells. These cells are from the original 1986 Movie and seem to be only partial, containing the backgrounds and base coloring for the frame. Final line art is missing which would make each complete and therefore “as seen” in the movie. These truly are a rare sight to see, so even if you can’t afford them, they are worth checking out for nostalgia purposes!
Check them out here:
Optimus Prime Animation Cell | Megatron Animation Cell | Starscream Animation Cell | Sharkticon Animation Cell

I still think they are fakes or reproductions. But if they are real still not worth the price she wants and has been turning down. Shes a greedy little woman , typical on ebay these days lol.

what the hell??? over 1K for an animation cell???
thygriever
omg… if that's true then it just makes me feel so terrible looking at those cels….
Blaster
Correct.
However the lines are rarely painted on. They are photocopied onto the front of the acetate sheet, and the paint is applied to the cel from the back of the sheet. There are instances where quick fix-ups are required, and as such the cel artists might paint a few areas on the front of the cel.
Hanken cel's – which are cels used to promotional items like magazines, DVD cover art and the like – are of a higher quality thatn a tv/movie cel and do in fact have the lines inked by hand.
Hope that helps
Gingerchris
The lines are normally painted on the opposite side to the colours aren't they?
Blaster
If you have a look at Megatron's head and Sharkticon's leg and arm, you can see some of the lines are still intact – not just showing through. The paint colours can hold up fairly well, even if the lines are missing – especailly if (as someone here mentioned before I think) the lines have come off the cel when a sheeet of paper – which might have been separating them – has been peeled off.
As you can see, some of the lines on this cel are missing, but the colours are still fine.
Sorry to de-rail the thread -_-`

Yeah, she's overshooting their value by (my completely uneducated guess here…) $7,300 or so?
Put down an offer for $100 bucks. Couldn't hurt…

Anyone notice the orignal prices? $25 for Optimus, $18 for Megatron, $18 for Starscream, and $12 for the sharkitcon.

if you look at the pic of my cel above you can see the lines can show through the paint. If the lines faded i would think the paint colors would have also faded over the years. I would want some proof that these are the real deal, well even with proof i wouldnt pay more then 75$ each…People knock off disney animation cels , these aint any different.
timshinn73
Yeah. Guess the ink lines have faded.
Another reason for these to not be worth $7500.
Blaster
They're not backwards. If you look close enough you can see parts of some lines still intact.
timshinn73
The background displayed with the Starscream cel belongs with the Sharkticon cel.
timshinn73
Is it me, or do these cels look like they're being displayed backwards?
The Megatron especially looks like the back of the cel. If she flipped them over, she might find the clearer image on the other side, with the ink lines intact.
Curious.
Either way, the price is too rich for my blood.

I think this woman is smoking something LOL, Orginal Disney cels dont go for that much last time i seen them pop up on antique road show lol, yeah i watch it lol aint nothing else on at 3am lol …
Also i think shes got them backwards, the way they look is about the same as the back of my Beast Wars Cel looks. They layer the paits to give it its compleated look on the other side. This just another ebay seller looking to make a million off a popular to toy.
This is my Cel from both sides to see the paint layers.

Agree. I have a ton of different cels. (A few of them are up here.) I have NEVER seen or heard of cels being colored on a separate cel from the artwork. I've never heard of lines "naturally fading" either.
So I'm thinking that these cels are fake, or have been purposely altered. Either way, I caution you guys not buy these.
Splendic
Now the funny thing is that the Starscream cel doesn't exist in the movie. It's close, but no cigar…
Maybe it was cut?
But here's the Sharkticon, sure enough…
Man, you know you've seen the movie too many times when it only takes about 5 minutes to recognize and track down 4 single frames…
Splendic
"That's a question you should ask yourself, Megatron…"
And, yes, you're crazy, or your TF-fu is weak…
"I'll crush you with my bare hands!"
These are cels are from the coolest Prime and Megs scene in all the G1 animation history… and, yes, they are still overpriced.
But that's her prerogative to ask that much. Nobody's making any of you pay it…
What's with all the hatin'???
Blaster
It is common practice for studios to have fix-up or extra lines on an overlay cel, but I too have never heard of entire cel lines being on a separate sheet.
Again, it's fairly common practice to fix up cels – especially ones that have been completed – by painting on top of the cel. Makes them a little harder to store though
And even though it has been confirmed that the cels haven't been 'flipped' I just thought I'd add a bit of info. If the cel had been scanned from the back, the paint would be a lot messier, as in the picture below:
Whereas the TF cel paint, even without lines is still fairly clean and straight.
