Hasbro has Submitted a trademark application for the name “Sideswipe”, possibly for the Universe 2.0 Sunstreaker retool. After years of using the two word name “Side Swipe”, it appears that they are attempting to make the change to the classic one word name. Thanks to Transformers @ The Moon for the update!

And said pictures have a horribly mistransformed Sideswipe.
I fiddled around with my Sunstreaker to get that same pose to prove it – they didn't hook the chest in, so it's hanging down further than it should.

They are. We've actually seen pictures of it.
Edit: BBTS has the newer official pictures of him (they're obviously heavily photoshoped, but it is a somewhat decent look at his head):

Fit For natalie
(FFN explains the above joke)
It it highly suspected that originally, the 1984 toy we know as Sunstreaker was originally intended to be Sideswipe and the Sideswipe toy would be Sunstreaker. That's why Sunstreaker has all of Sideswipe's equipment, from his jet pack to things that could pass for pile drivers. This is also why Sunstreaker has these red stickers on his arms – they were part of one of the original Diaclone colour schemes and would have been red for Sideswipe as well.
Also explains Sunstreaker's bio dissing his brother for the big engine that 'spoilt his lines'… even though Sunstreaker is actually the brother with the engine mounted on him.

What's the matter? Too G1 accurate for you?

I've no problem with that being Sides Wipe or Sideswipe. However, PLEASE kindly..Do away with those EARS!

… I just realized that this year's BotCon exclusive was called "Sideswipe" (single name) with a "registered"-® behind it.
However, considering Fun Publications also called two of last year's exclusives "Huffer®" and "Springer®", I'd chalk that up to "They don't know what the hell they're doing".

ARGH. Please, people. Calm down.
Technically, there's no-one really to stop Hasbro here. Anyone to oppose "Sideswipe" would have also opposed "Side Swipe" seven years ago. Alternatively, anyone registering anything that could pose a problem for "Sideswipe" between 2001 and now would have encountered problems with Hasbro's existing "Side Swipe" trademark. And the "Autobot Sideswipe" scenario is extremely unlikely, considering that "Sideswipe" is already a compound word.
Essentially, the only thing that has stopped Hasbro from pursuing the single-name spelling up until now was… well, money. Spending several hundred dollars just to get rid of a space in a name was just not worth the effort. Wonder what has changed.

It could also be that they may use it for the movie as well and they don't want to have to call him Autobot Sideswipe.

Haha what an awful pose, that mold is capable of looking way cooler than that

That settles it.
For those wondering, Hasbro have been using the trademark "Side Swipe" for years now, starting with the RID Spychanger. Now they're finally returning to the single-word spelling.
General Tekno
They've probably been trying for a bit.
Haven't they been using Side Swipe in the interim?
