Draven of our 2005 Boards has hooked us up with another review and great photos. This time he has reviewed the upcoming Universe Ultra-class Powerglide. Draven’s overview of the figure, as well as the images, can be seen by clicking on the Discuss button. Powerglide’s tentative release date is the beginning of August, along with his previously reviewed enemy Onslaught!

Wal-Mart exclusive Ultra Powerglide…
…otherwise known as the one with the accurate paint job. Makes me glad I didn't order the Henkei version, since this finally came out domestically. Found it on clearance for $15, making it an even nicer buy.
The mold is identical to the original. The joints feel a bit more stiff and so transformation takes a bit more effort. The wing tabs are still the weak point on this mold. There are rectangular tabs on the side of the engines where the wings are supposed to attach to form shoulders, but it doesn't work very well. On both versions that I own, the wing simply won't position correctly, and if it does it slips right off the tab at the slightest provocation. Generally speaking however, this version seems a little more stable than the original, probably due to a different plastic.
Visually, it's mostly red with white upper legs, arms and hands, and face, just like the original. The Autobot insignia on the chest is silver. There is black trim here and there. While I vastly prefer the red version, the sculpted panel lines and rivets don't show up as well as they do on the off-white original figure, but it's a trade-off that's worth making.
Sounds are the same. Same three sounds in plane mode, machine-gun only in robot mode, and both versions of the G1 transformation sound triggered by a button on the abdomen halfway through the change. Very nice.
Overall, I'd call this exclusive an improvement, simply because I enjoy the more accurate G1 color scheme.

I'll have to check to see if the Sale is at my Wally's. I wouldn't mind getting another one to detail.

The very first G1 episode I watched was Powerglide and his girl. Got my red Powerglide yesterday from Wal-mart for $15. Totally brought back the feeling of the old G1 Powerglide toy, the colors really hits the spot. It is a bit pink (cost cutting?), but this and the black/purple repaint are the better ones made from this mold. Kudos to Hasbro.

I have all 3 versions. Quality control is pretty similar for each. The new (red) hasbro version has the best ability to peg together, but the differences are very minor. The coloring on the new hasbro version is by far the best.

The U.S. Version. I almost sprung for the Henkei one though. I kind of wish I would have. I'll tell you what though, FrenzyRumble did one up that Peaugh did a review on, and that one is by far the nicest Powerglide I've ever seen.
Xcandescent
Yikes! Are you referring to the U.S. re-release, or the Henkei version?

I own this version and the red version. I thought I'd like the red version better, but the QC on the red version on my fig is so bad, I can't even get him to stay pegged together. I'll go with the white any day.

I'm on record as saying that I prefered Powerglide in the reasonable white as opposed to a you'll-never-see-a-real-life-plane-painted-this-way red, but since we've got both now, red dude can be Powerglide and I'll repurpose the white one as…
Yes, my thoughts exactly.
ekocher
well there is no screw there so the glue had to work
kylash327
i love how the letters on the wing spell out NA W4Y W3 60 "And away we go!"
jorod74
I don't think they attach.
you may have to tighten the screws where the wings connect to the body so it isn't so loose and should ratchet up and stay in place easier.
It's odd that my first powerglide (gray) was tooo tight, my red powerglide is too loose…so, if i buy Stormcloud, he should be juuuuusssst right?
lol

Ahhh yes … Habro has no control over quality control.
"Hey China!"
China:
Yeeeees?
"Make some Transformers!"
China:
Okaaayyyy.
"And we really do not care what our toys look like or if they have defects!"
China:
Yeeeees.
Feralstorm
Presumably so it wouldn't be the same as the previous Powerglide(s), and for cartoon-style blue eyes (even if they light up red)
Terrorcon Blot
They're actually blue… it just looks purple because of the red it's against.
kylash327
i really dont understand why they made his clear parts purple like stormcloud and not orange like the first powerglide….really doesnt match.
ekocher
does anyonek now any way to fix powerglides arm connectors so they attach to the thrusters and stay there easier?
Polenicus
Better yet, get the reprolabels set to to properly convert him into Hothouse.
I suspect that color scheme was always intended to be a repaint of Powerglide into Hothouse, given all the micromaster homages in Classics 2.0

I wish the Wal-Mart by me carried him. They just have 16 shelves full of Deluxe ROTF Wheelie Figures. I own the Grey version but really want that Red one too. Peaugh bought one customized by FrenzyRumble and it is absolutely incredible. If you like this guy, check out that review.

I'm not too surprised to hear about there being some QC issues with this batch after the minor problems I was having with Hardhead. I'm guessing this initial release might have some problems like the first wave when they were originally released (i.e Onslaught's faulty siren).
Angelwave
Well I got Powerglide today. Other than the paint having scratches on his faceplate he's great.
If anyone knows what the matching color is, please let us know. Otherwise, he might end up being my first silver sharpie dealie.
