Transformers has broken another record. According to The Hollywood Reporter the Transformers DVD has sold more than 4.5 million copies in just one day of sales! Over 8 million copies for the week! So if you haven’t bought yours yet there’s a chance that you might know someone who has and you should still pick one up for yourself (at the very least, to tell your friends you’re a member of the website they show in the special features)!

Awesome!

Awesome news! Here's hoping we kick Spidey 3's butt!
moocow
Expected this since it did do really good in theatres.

I only bought one copy, as I fully expect to see that super duper version down the road. glad its no.1, now put that money into the next movie and slim down the role of the humans!

Harry Potter 5 came out to DVD yesterday in Hong Kong.
Spiderman 3 came out over a month in HK as well. (I bought my copy back in early September. Thank god for Pacific Mall in Toronto!)
Transformers is surprisingly coming sometime in November for its Hong Kong DVD release. So i pretty much got my fill on the Spidey 3 dvd already. It's already collecting dust ever since I rewatched it on DVD.

Awesome!!!! It's great to hear that the movie is doing so well. I contributed by buying two copies (one for the Walmart Prequel and one for the Hastings reversible beanie/stocking cap).
Bring on TF2

Yes.
1. New Bots and Cons. We know there will be at least a few on each side.
2. Survivors getting new forms. Pretty likely to happen from a toy sales perspective. I just can't see Hasbro re-releasing Leader Prime for instance. It'll likely be a brand new design.

Perhaps some of the surviving bots will have new modes?

Maybe I'm being naiive here but shouldn't they be able to do more next time for the same amount of $$ given that all of the design and modelling for the surviving characters is already done? I mean they already have Optimus and Bumblebee saved in some ginormus database somewhere so all the work that went into design and creation is already done and paid for when it comes to some of the lead robots.
Or am I missing something?

Great news all around. The more money this movie makes, the more it'll show studio execs that the franchise is a sound investment and we can get more things for the sequels.
Yeah, that must be it.
Was there that much product placement really? Did you want the guy on the street to be carrying a generic "Video Game Console" instead of an X-Box? Would it be more realistic for the soda machine to be labeled "Soda Machine" instead of Mountain Dew? Would've the cel phone joke made sense?
I don't think the product placement was so bad on the movie … and it also helps set the movie in the here and now which was one of the goals of TPTB.
Good point FFN. Funny thought: imagine how bad product placement would be on Star Wars or Lord of the Rings.
And great sig too KA.

That is crazy how fast it has been selling. My GF works at a Target and had to got to another one just to get it, because they were sold out. I am very happy that it is doing so well. I can't wait for the next one.

See, here's something that doesn't make sense. People are beginning to say we need to restrict the budget the next time around too. Yet, people are also saying we need more robots on screen. The money is needed for the robots. It really is that simple with Transformers. Believe me, with Bay at the helm, he'll pack as much robot action on-screen as he has the money for. And while I'd like to see a great story play out, I don't think restricting the budget is the way to do that with this franchise.
Not that the first movie wasn't good, but think how much more awesome it would have been had Bay been able to afford to animate that aircraft carrier transforming. And I very, VERY much want to see that this next time around.

I can attest to the sales, I work in Electronics, and this DVD has sold BIG numbers
and that is awesome considering that I live in a small middles of nowhere town, that doesn't even have a comic shop(hopefully this time next year, my bud and I will have ours open)but that aside, the movie has been huge around here!!
700 posts! WOOT!

Wow…..best selling DVD movie this year!! I have to admit to buying 2 copies myself (1 for me and one for my son) both of the 2-disc sets. I plan to get one on HD-DVD as well!!!
Nice haul overall for 2007 for a 23 year old toy franchise!!! Here's to bigger and better in 2008 and beyond!!!

i like the movie, but im feeling inundated by all this feelgood news.
i almost expect a thread titled 'TFTM07 cures cancer and solves poverty'.
Tell_Story
I'm not surprised by the "low" budget this film had. $150 mil is a lot of money and no one had any way to gage if it would make it's money back. What if Bay directed it wrong or the special effects weren't done right? What if the fanboys didn't watch it like they said they wouldn't.
With that said, they did an amazing job with the budget, the actors, SE, and in was a great success! I've never been to see a movie three time in the theatre in my life. I never had so much fun at a movie. So I expect the budget to be at least twice as much as it was the first time around. But it is more admirable to make a great movie on a lower budget, besides less money spent on the movie should mean more profits. Just get it right and it's all good.

Awesome news. I knew it would do well, especially with so many exclusives to buy.

That's a good possiblilty. With gifts, Backscatter & I bought 9 (not scalping here, 2 went for gifts and 1 was a purchase for someone else.)
