If you haven’t gone to the theatres to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen yet or you are going again soon, pay close attention to a certain scene. According to an article on VH1, visual effects supervisor Scott Farrar states that R2-D2 of Star Wars fame was added in a scene as a piece of “junk”. The visual effects for the movie were done by Industrial Light & Magic, who also create the visual effects for the Star Wars movie. For information on what scene R2-D2 may be featured in, check out the VH1 article.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Shatters US Box Office Record for Wednesday Opening
Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that box office returns for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen have smashed the previous box-office record for a Wednesday opening in the United States. The movie grossed at least $55 million yesterday, even $10 million higher than their own studio (Paramount) estimated. The box office overtook by far the previous record holder, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix at $44.2 million. The $55 million take on Wednesday now means the movie is on track for a $170+ million 5-day opening.
Update: Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Paramount is reporting $60.6 million in ticket sales for Wednesday.
Revenge of the Fallen Sets Wednesday Midnight Box Office Record of $16 Million
Paramount was looking for bigger with Michael Bay’s highly anticipated Transformers sequel and it looks like they’ve got it. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen debuted to a record $16 million last night, the most ever for a Wednesday midnight run. (Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight scored $18 million for its midnight run last year, but that was on a Friday.)
So how high will Transformers 2’s grosses go this weekend? Predictions have ranged anywhere from $125 million to $160 million for the five-day frame. Whatever the number, it will be good news for the box office, which is having trouble maintaining last summer’s record draw.

Revenge of the Fallen Special Effects burn out ILM Mainframes
In an interview with Scifi Wire, Industrial Light and Magic’s Scott Farrar reveals that the special effects heavy sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, rendered in high definition for IMAX, nearly caused ILM’s rendering computers to break down. Indeed, after one overnight session, several machines “blew up” in a puff of smoke.
The interview also goes into detail about the creative process of the film and the challenges of producing the special effects – as well as the process of getting everything approved by Hasbro to ensure the designs could be made to work as toys.

Michael Bay blasts "weak" advertising campaign for Revenge of the Fallen
In an email dated May 4 leaked to TMZ.com, Michael Bay blasted the lack of promotion in print ads for Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In the message Bay complains that the print campaign was ineffective and an “abject failure”. He goes on to cite advice from Jerry Bruckheimer:
Jerry always told him “a studio that does not make [the opening of a movie] an event … will get bitten in the ass.” He then adds, “Besides my good friend Steven [Spielberg], Jerry has made a lot more successful movies then (sic) all of us.”A further email, dated June 6, does go back on this statement and thanks Paramount for raising their game.
