Thanks to Cheem The Rup of the 2005 Boards via Tag Hobby we have some official images of the non-transformable Art Storm EX Gokin Optimus Prime and Grimlock figures. These are posable PVC figures with a more simple design reminiscent of the G1 cartoons. Each come with a base, weapons and interchangeable fists. Check out the shots after the break! [Read more…]
Transformers Cloud Megatron In-Hand Images
The cool new Transformers Cloud Megatron has been released in Japan – and via 2005 Boards member Masabon, we can share some in hand images with you! Cloud Megatron is an E-Hobby exclusive and a redeco of the GDO Voyager Megatron, itself a remold of the Revenge of the Fallen Voyager Bludgeon. It’s a pretty sharp looking deco for the inaugural Decepticon in this lineup – check out the pics and see what you think. [Read more…]
Figure King reveals Bearbrick Optimus Prime, Tokyo Toy Show Bluestreak and more
We have received some new scans from Figure King which show off some cool new stuff coming out in Japan. There is another entry in the list of “weird and wonderful things Optimus Prime can turn into” with a Bearbrick x Transformers crossover, which features a version of Optimus Prime transforming into the iconic Bearbrick figure. It is only an unpainted resin prototype at this stage, so no word on whether the Bearbrick mode might have some special Transformers themed deco.
There are also some images showcasing the latest on Masterpiece Ultra Magnus, who features an alternate shouting face (or maybe it’s an “Open, dammit, open!” face). The Spike and Daniel figures are also shown in prototype form, and what little we can see suggests they are both based on their Season 3 silver jumpsuits.
There is also a callout showing the Tokyo Toy Show version of Masterpiece Streak. He is based on the original Generation 1 toy, so he’s a full silver Datsun without the black roof. He also seems to be set to include the Amazon launchers, which have been recolored to have red bases on the launchers, rather than black.
There is also a look at a D-Style Optimus Prime, and some of the new licensed product from Artstorm including the EX Gokin Optimus Prime and Grimlock. A big thanks goes to 2005 Boards member Type-R for sharing this with us. [Read more…]
Japanese Transformers News – More Masterpiece Decepticons and Generation 1 Recolors for AOE Dinobots
Snakas has posted a (Japanese language) roundup of the recent Transformers 30th anniversary celebration event in Japan, where the Takara-Tomy Transformers team were in attendance.
While at the event, the team dropped a few hints at future plans. The first hint was that the team want to put out more Generation 1 themed recolors of the Age of Extinction Dinobot toys in addition to the already-announced recolors of Grimlock and Slug.
The second one which will please Masterpiece fans was a declaration that in the future, more Destron Masterpieces will come out. No hints at whom, though with Takara-Tomy’s trend at looking to the early years of Transformers, safe bets might be the likes of Shockwave, a new Megatron, Galvatron, or possibly the three Decepticon “conehead” jets given the easy mold reuse potential. Keep it TFW for more news on that morsel!
It was also hinted that more past Transformers Movie toys might make an appearance in the Takara-Tomy Movie Advanced line, the Japanese version of the Age of Extinction Generations series which has already featured reuses of the popular Battle Blade Optimus Prime and Battle Blade Bumblebee toys.
You can check out the full text of Snakas’ report here (in Japanese, so you might want to run it through Google Translate or another online translator). [Read more…]
Transformers Optimus Prime Pen
Just when you thought Takara-Tomy had exhausted the list of “unusual things a Transformer can turn into” (which includes shoes, working computer mice and ice lollies) we learn of this latest Optimus Prime coming out in Japan – who transforms from a fully articulated robot into a working pen.
Yes indeed Transformers fans. The bar on “weird yet cool things Optimus can turn into” has been deftly raised. Big thanks to uranusdd of our 2005 boards for the news tip and attached scan showing the prototype.

Potential Japanese Transformers Generations Releases?
Via 2Chan we have a look at some rather interesting Transformers designs in Transformers Generations 2014 Volume 1. Across a two-page spread ten different potential Transformers toys are shown, including an Alpha Trion, a GoShooter from Chojin Masterforce and a set of Omnibots.
Exactly what these are meant for is unclear at this time – one school of thought suggests this is a vote for which of the ten fans would like to see happen. We will update you once more information becomes available.
The ten shown are:
1 – Alpha Trion from Generations Scourge
2 – The Fallen from Fall of Cybertron Onslaught
3 – Sunstreaker Police Type from Universe Sunstreaker
4 – Smokescreen from Universe Smokescreen
5 – Autobot Drift Black Version from Generations Drift (this might well be a toy of Drift’s Decepticon alter-ego Deadlock)
6 – Overdrive from Universe Smokescreen
7 – Camshaft from Generations Wheeljack
8 – Downshift from Universe Ironhide
9 – Beast Wars Silverbolt from Beast Hunters Grimwing

Million Publishing 2014 Exclusive Shouki with Targetmaster Daniel
Courtesy of a new Amazon Japan listing for the next issue of the Transformers Generations Volume 1, we have our look at the exclusive figure being offered. This year it is repaint of the Transformers Classics Astrotrain mold as Trainbot Shouki. Additional pictures from Hero-x show the figure in full and in all three modes. Also revealed is Shouki’s Targetmaster partner, Daniel, which is a reuse of the Powercore Combiner minicon Groundspike. In space shuttle mode, Shouki reveals a Decepticon symbol, which along with Daniel’s color scheme, acts a secondary homage to Micromaster Skystalker. This figure will be available as a bonus only if you order the new Generations book. No word yet on when it will be made available to order.
For now, enjoy this really cool and unexpected character choice and discuss on the 2005 Boards! [Read more…]
Transformers Evangelion Crossover Optimus EVA Prime
New images have surfaced in Japanese hobby magazines of an Optimus EVA Prime – an Optimus Prime styled version of the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime EVA-01. The deco closely matches Optimus Prime’s – but is it a cross over too far for you, readers?
According to our sponsors Robot Kingdom, this one is coming in 2015. [Read more…]

Takara-Tomy have updated their website with further details of their 30th anniversary plans which includes a special clear version of the Reveal the Shield Legends Class Optimus Prime. From the text on the page it seems as though this one will be given away as a part of the midnight launch of the Age of Extinction toyline at the Ikebukuro Sunshine City Toys R Us on May 16th. There’s also a secret on this toy – something to do with a metal pin in the foot… [Read more…]
TFW’s Japanese Generations Armada Starscream Gallery Now Online
It’s time for another gallery update, and to coincide with our coverage of the Unicron Trilogy in our 30 years of Transformers in 30 days retrospective, we have a look at the Japanese Generations Armada Starscream for you!
Armada Starscream as you might remember is a Deluxe class update of the original Transformers Armada Starscream. For the Japanese release, Takara-Tomy has sharpened up the deco and making Armada Starscream look just like his Micron Legend self. It makes the Japanese release look like a very different toy to the US version and gives him a very white looking jet mode.
Is the new deco an improvement in your eyes? Check out SydneyY’s photos below and judge for yourself:
