2004 was the 20th anniversary year of the Transformers and also a disastrous year for the brand. Toys were poorly distributed leading to a long period where very little new product made it to shelves, and two major licensors – Dreamwave Comics and 3H who ran the official convention – folded. On the positive side Hasbro and Takara pressed ahead with the Alternators / Binaltech line, a well-received collector-oriented line that reimagined classic Transformers are real cars with realistic detailing and interiors, and the 20th anniversary was marked with a special 20th anniversary Optimus Prime, whose production was aided by a fan poll hosted on this website! In Japan, the 20th anniversary Optimus Prime was released as Masterpiece MP-1 Convoy, kicking off the popular Masterpiece line. [Read more…]

Two months ago S250 of the 2005 Boards found out that a Giant Scorpion Transformers Figure is due to be released.

Two hours ago S250 Tweeted to let us know that the toy is actually a repaint of Scorponok (Energon).

No words yet about what toy category it will represent. Will it be for the new Generations toy category? Is this the Airachnid trademark Hasbro filed around the same time they trademarked Transformers: Prime? Only time can tell. But in the meantime, do tell us what you think by hitting the Discuss Button.

Transformers artist extraordinaire Dan Khanna has posted some very cool artwork on his Deviant Art Account of the unreleased redecos of Transformers Energon Optimus Prime and Megatron. The three pieces of art show Optimus Prime in his normal form and his super mode, and Megatron in all his glory. These pieces of artwork would have been used for the Target Exclusive redecos of these leaders that would have also come with WST Optimus Prime and Soundwave, respectively.

If you like the artwork, then good news! There is a chance for you to own the linework (uncolored versions) of these one of a kind works of art. Check out the auctions on eBay over here for the two pieces showing Optimus Prime and here for the lineart for Megatron.
