Thanks to NOTRAB, the Hasbro Weibo account, and Kevin Liu, we have our first in-hand looks at the highly-anticipated Studio Series Leader Class Dark of the Moon Megatron! In addition to some stellar shots, we also have some size comparison pics of Megatron in robot mode for those curious about how he scales with past Leaders, the DOTM Voyager, and the upcoming Voyager Optimus.
Check out the pics after the jump, and be sure to share your thoughts and excitement in the discussion below! (pretty pics c/o NOTRAB)

I had a problem cuz I had the legs mistransformed. I was keeping them straight when they are supposed to be cocked backwards chickenstyle. Although he’s not the most poseable ‘Former. View attachment 28341924View attachment 28341925 View attachment 28341926View attachment 28341927

got him today. is it just me that thinking the ankle rocker is total waste oppurtunity? i mean , even if he only has toe tilt , at least make the rotation point correctly. Instead we have rotation point inward and the toe cant even touch the ground , make him posing dramatically very difficult , unlike grindor and grimlock
maxxzander
that kind of makes sense ..
Edwardmus Prime
This is something I have been wanting for a while. The shotgun is even 5mm port compatible, unlike the one that came with Evasion Prime. He's actually bulky like in the movie and the cloth looks better than the rubber from the Voyager in my opinion. I wish he was bigger, but hey I will take what I can get because he is already pretty satisfactory. Not much could have been be done about the boxiness and panels when the original design's kibble was so minimal and I don't think it will look bad with the chunkier design on Optimus.
Don't know how many toys I will be getting from Studio Series, but he would be a fun addition to my Transformers collection.

vatarian and Word Pimes posts make sense to me I also got the sense that all the rust on evasion Optimus was just cosmetic disguise, he was beaten up for sure but the rust was just camouflage as apposed to the very real problem Megatron had with his rotting body.

Expanding on this—
Megatron had brain/skull damage and a limb straight up LOST. Following the battle of Egypt, the Decepticons also kinda became the underdogs until Chicago, when Sentinel summoned more troups. Tight resources. Lots of wounded soldiers.
Megatron had extremely severe injuries, and not much to work with in the matter of repairing them. He was also, if I’m remembering correctly, extremely bitter about his failure, and habitually crushed the tiny drones working on his head, even picking at the open wound therein.
Optimus was also injured, but nothing like Megatron.
If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that while bayverse Optimus may be the more agile and vicious fighter in later movies, Megatron is ALWAYS the more enduring and resistant to pain and injury.
I don’t know that it’s likely that Optimus, pre-Knight upgrade, would have even been able to stand up or lead following injuries as ghastly as Megatron’s.

Meg’s has his arm torn off, his face half destroyed, and some other parts like his treads come off. In my internal logic they can’t just replace missing body parts my scanning a new alt mode, so he could only half-ass it. Also, it’s clear from bumblebee’s voice box and Ironhide and lockdown’s faces (which have scars) that certain parts are harder for them to repair than others. Also, it’s implied that Cade helped repair Optimus enough to the point where he was functioning at least at average capacity. I guess no one helped megs much aside from his little doctor thingies.
maxxzander
that being said, meg should be fully repaired after scanning new alt mode like how evasion prime did in AOE… no??? hmmm……

That is one bigass truck that is worth $50 to me
People are stupid “wah wah hes not as tall as old leaders wah wah”
The price groups arent based on size
Its more mass
Figures like him and blackout are big vehicles with lots of mass that compress into a smaller robot
Also if he was taller you guys would be whining about scale
Shmoptimus Prime
I and many others were happy to pay that price, and your whole point was that he’s not valuable enough for the sale price that you mentioned and that’s fine if you think that but all this value that you’re mentioning just seems to be your opinion on how much you personally want to pay for it, which means very little as an argument.
Dude they’re there. That’s the design. If they look more solid in some scenes rather than others that’s just the angle. The figure is correct to have them that way.
mlgpapalouie
Even the 3A figure has digitigrade legs lmao
JT-bob
Your argument makes no sense. I'm saying TLK was too small for its MSRP and this is slightly smaller, so it also doesn't measure up to full price.
Because the FOUR other movie images next to the concept art ALSO don't show digitigrade legs.
Shmoptimus Prime
38 out of 40 ain't bad. You get my point you're just trolling.
Same. Everyone's freaking out about this and yet not giving it any credit for being an excellent and mostly movie accurate toy of an impossible design.

You know, despite some of the perceived flaws SS DOTM Megs has, I still plan on getting him like I did the ROTF figure. It seems that gappage is a running gag with both our SS Megatrons in hindsight, lol. Still, I've been waiting for them to do this particular version of Megatron, and I'm glad they're not skipping over him. Wonder if his trailer is able to turn like his previous DOTM figure, has that been confirmed?
Now all we need is a CONFIRMED Dino, Jolt (ehhh…maybe), Que/Wheeljack, Shockwave, Sentinel, the Fallen, and Blitzwing, and I'd be happy as BW Megatron whenever he says "YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS…."
…in fact, that's what I say whenever a particular figure is confirmed for Studio Series.
Strife
Nah. I'm extremely happy with Studio Series as a whole, and even more with Siege, PotP and so forth. These are great yos for the mass market, and they get a lot more right than they get wrong. Nobody should ever go into any movie line looking for perfection, given that the movie designs are intrinsically incompatible with toys. They all require extreme trickery to make work.
Kotori Sonoda
since he'll live in robot mode, hollow truck. I really think the hollow cab won't be much of a bother in person.
Hell the ROTF Megs hollowness doesn't bother me at all anymore (I do flip down the tank turrets at the sides though)
ObakaChanTachi
Seems like Megatron just can’t escape the curse of hollow parts. Hollow truck or hollow body, pick your poison
Skyclaw
Don't worry, 3rd party companies will fix this! Will be good as new!!
ObakaChanTachi
Dropkick and Crankcase say hi
To an extent all TLK repaints count too but they’re good enough for SS imo
TheSuperion
Well, my mistake then. Usually this is not the case when people in the fandom claim that Hasbro is cutting costs. Which is to say, they still think they are, not that they did at one point for legitimate financial reasons.
