2018 marked the end of the IDW Transformers titles, included fan-favorite Lost Light which brought the adventures of Rodimus and his unique crew.
We are glad to share with all fans that Transformers: Lost Light has been nominated for IGN’s Comic Book Series of the Year (2018). You can read IGN’s comments on this title below:
Transformers: Lost Light
Creative Team:James Roberts & Various Artists
Publisher:IDW Publishing
The last couple years have been a time of great upheaval for IDW’s Transformers line, what with the rise of a shared Hasbro universe and the cataclysmic events of Transformers: Unicron. But through it all, fans could always rely on Lost Light to continue where Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye left off and showcase the franchise at its very best.
Lost Light is nominated together with other 9 comic titles: Batman, Black Hammer: Age of Doom, Black Panther, East of West, Go Go Power Rangers, Kill or Be Killed, The Mighty Thor, Monstress and Saga.

You can't feed your family with awards. Even comic creators need to eat. LOL
Windsweeper II
A prime example of one of the most loathsome and boring narrative tricks in the trade.
Grand Slam
Birds of a feather…

Yeah its almost as if outside the bitter and resentful tfw commentariat the tf comics are appreciated for more than how well they sell toys.

Yes.

Def glad LL is getting some recognition, I quite enjoyed it.
This, I don’t understand how that’s it’s not included on IGN’s list. Probably my favorite comic this year

Yes I will agree that if they were human they would be gay and transgender- but they’re not human, so they’re not.
highlander3000
That may be true but it was Roberts stated goal to make this a parallel to gay / trans people.
Now, did MMPR have gay / trans characters?

Considering some of the crap comics that have been published this year, I certainly think Lost Light was enough above average to deserve a nomination. Flaws and everything, it was still a very entertaining comic to sit through.
But if I have to be honest, the Power Rangers comic are the ones the probably deserve the win the most. Nobody saw coming such a good story made out of official american knock-off of Super-Sentai.
Tho I'm guessing Batman or Black Panther will win. Depends if they want to pander to comic fans or to movie fans.

I see a lot of people are wondering why some comic book titles are missing in the comic book series of the year article.
I should mention that titles such as Batman: White Knight and Mister Miracle are under the best limited comic book of the year:
Best Limited Comic Book or Mini-Series – 2018 – IGN
Some like Venom are nominated for best comic book artist or art team:
Best Comic Book Artist or Art Team – 2018 – IGN
The award for comic book series of the year is applied for ongoing series that began or concluded this year.
Also, The Mighty Thor won in 2017 from IGN, and Batman won from the audience.
Inanimate Carbon Rodimus
Batman: White Knight or the new Venom series would get my vote, were they on the list. Lost Light doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near a best-of list.
That’s my guess too, given that some of the other nominees are titles with “socially relevant” content.

Cybertronians don’t have gender like we do. They’re technically genderless. You can’t transition to the other gender when you have no gender in the first place. Although Cybertronians have masculine and feminine personalities, that doesn’t make them male or female.
highlander3000
Did Power Rangers not include gay / trans characters or did they just not get press for them?
THE-TRANSFORMER
Nah, they escaped the time loop.
But then
Well Power Rangers are there, so probably?
highlander3000
Would this book have even made the list without the press it gained for incorporating gay / trans robots?

There are a lot of great comics in 2018 that didn't make this list. Many better than titles made this list.
Haywired
I'd still vote for Saga from this list.

If the category was Biggest Letdown in comic series, it would likely win!

Shame it never happened in the comics. At the time, seeing Defensor gain the upper hand on the cover was a real hype builder; it promised a potentially epic scene.
Which didn’t happen. I really felt short-changed and disappointed by the poor treatment of the Protectobots. They did not get a satisfying resolution to their predicament. They were seen to be escaping while trapped in a time loop meaning they didn’t actually escape. And then it was kinda brushed over. A huge let down because I was invested in their story.
