Care of Snakas Blog we have an amazing set of images of the prototypes of the upcoming Takara Tomy Siege releases.
We have a great gallery of the gray prototypes of the upcoming Takara Tomy Siege May releases: Soundwave, Chromia, Prowl, Autobot Rescue Patrol (Red Hot & Stakeout) and Battlemaster Pteraxadon.
Even they are the gray prototypes, they are showing the different weapon configurations for the robots and the combined weapon form of the Micromaster Rescue Patrol. We also have a look at the front and back views of these characters, and some dynamic poses.
Check all the mirrored images after the jump and then sound off on the 2005 Boards!

Give it time. Given prior form Ratchet will be out in Hong Kong etc c August and Walgreens October. I'd expect to see Ratchet after that.
Wreck-Gar, this year's Walgreens exclusive which followed a similar worldwide release pattern, only comes out in Japan December 31st!

Sigh I never said they share parts. Don't rehash my words. I said same design. You realize that sitting at a desk designing costs time and money? And testing with grey models.
Hun Gurr is by all definition a Silverbolt design. Basically it is a trim down on costs due to the knowledge that the design works.
Now another type of budget cut is sharing molds. And that is done with yes Chromedome family and Blurt family molds. But only on a few insignificant parts. Parts that won't degrade that fast. Or at least cause issues when transforming. Other than that I would not know of many budget cuts. Well the head masters themselves could be on seperate sprews that don't particular belong to a mold set.
And I suspect the handpieces to be seperate. Since Punch/Counterpunch has one.

Looking at all the Takara listings, I'm surprised that there isn't a listing for a Japanese release of the supposedly Walgreens exclusive Siege Ratchet.
thedicemaster
silverbolt and hun gurr don't actually share any parts.
chromia has several parts that are identical to moonracer and novastar.
you can see the same with chromedome and blurr, who share the same thighs, titan master body, and gun.

Fact is, as with Hun Gurr who I got a lot of flak for when comparing with Silverbolt, that they save time and money with reusing the same engineering.
Prime Aspect
I understand the reasons, but it's a shame that Chromia doesn't have the combiner parts. Would have liked to have had a full team for Elita.
TheAmazingBrave
I'm just glad the scratches on the chest window are tamps and not molded in. The prototypes confirm that.
As for Prowl, never liked how he looked when the CAD models were shown. Now I'm even more convinced with the legs being entirely clear plastic. Yikes.

If you're lucky, you might get a running change… but I don't foresee that happening sadly.

Same, bud. I was looking forward to him, honestly, as the Classics Prowl had so many issues that I was in need of another Generations-scale Prowl.
But transparent legs… With how tight the joints have been on the first wave (no doubt to support the Weaponizers), I could easily foresee stressmarks and cracks right out of the package. Unless they get clever with the engineering for this fig anyway. But I don't see many ways around the "this plastic is brittle and doesn't take stress well" problem.

According to the very first paragraph of the definition of retool at tfwiki, that is exactly what retooling is. It's extensive, but I believe it still fits the criteria.
BigRed
Sure, but that's not what retooling is. Retooling is a measure to utilize a previous mold to save money on tooling with alternate parts. Chromia's case is a matter of reused engineering and CAD model, which means it's saving a bit of time on her design proccess, but still utilizes brand new tooling that cost the same as any other brand new steel mold would.
It looks terrible either way, Moonracer was already bad but passeable thanks to having the "well she has to combine" excuse. This Chromia is just gross.
Farstryder
Hands, thighs and tires all look the same to me.
You call it what you want. Someone took the Moonracer design and added greebles and redesigned the upper body and legs. They have the same bot mode. They have the same alt-mode. The only differences is gimmickry. Moonracer has combiner baggage and Chromia has greebles and weathering.
Smitty.1981
No, Siege Chromia uses shared engineering. There are no common parts.
Farstryder
The definition I was going by. Although, the new PC term is shared tooling?

Prowl was a figure I looked forward to but this.. I can't decide , I think he looks out of place in this line. he is way too streamlined where everyone else is just blocky-bricky. Otherwise, I always wanted a cool prowl with bluestreak.
I think My favourite autobot of this line is gonna be ironhide (and ratchet). especially if he really is as tall as he looks in the pics from tokio comiccon. (If I'm not mistaken he is a head taller than hound)
And that soundwave is loong overdue. I will buy it and every casette that comes out for it.
It actually reminds me of a certain dropship a lot
Space wolves stormwolf from WH40K
It would be nice to see a blaster from this mold, espacially when both the guardian and the cassettes looks so cool. but I dunno if we will get one since there are so many voyagers already. But on the other hand, it is so unlike Hasbro to use a mold only once. fingers crossed.
