Motion Pictures Association of America (MPAA) has rated the upcoming Transformers: Bumblebee movie with a PG-13 rating.
This is quite a surprise, since most fans hoped for a PG rating rather than a PG-13.
The higher rating is due to “sequences of sci-fi action violence”.
However, it is interesting to note that “language, and some innuendo”, “some crude and sexual material, and brief drug material” descriptions as seen on previous Transformers movies, are noticeably absent from this movie’s rating; indicating a lack of toilet humor and sexualization.
Full description can be found below. We now await for the final running time of the movie.
- TITLE: Bumblebee (2018)
- RATING: PG-13
- CERTIFICATE #: 51551
- REASON: Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action violence.
- DISTRIBUTOR: Paramount Pictures Corporation
- ALTERNATE TITLES: Brighton Falls; Bumble Bee

Probably because the language and sexual innuendo are absent from the movie which already makes it a huge step up and when they said new direction they literally meant new direction

Man, I'm surprised how many people actually care about these ratings. I always just assumed most people ignored them.

While I can see the appeal for a PG rating, PG-13 for 'sci-fi violence' sounds a lot more fitting for the franchise.

Also, news post mentions fans hoping this was PG instead of PG-13. Y'all speak for yourself, I was not wanting this to end up PG, I think PG-13 is just perfect for this franchise.

Damn I should’ve been truthful on my age. This is wild. I would’ve never guessed.
Hold it. We don’t know yet.

It's a light pg13 movie I think with everything we have seen

If a humanoid figure transforms into a car and as person goes underneath said car, who's to say they're not the scrotum?

Hey, I saw the first Transformers movie when I was seven. No need to sweat it, dude. I'm pretty sure a 12 year old can see a PG-13 movie about Bumblebee. Plus, you're young, so no one will judge if your folks take you. Trust me.

Who cares? just go in by yourself if you want, they won't check and they won't care. I know someone who went into a PG-13 movie when they were 7 . I know your theatre may be strict but just try. You'll get there, I'm sure.

Wait…are you actually 12…?

Fuuuuck … I dnt turn 13 til next yr and I’m too embarassed to go with a parent … this blows donkey dick! … my local theater is actually lame enough to actually check age bc of unaccompanied minors sneaking into ‘hard R’ movies … it’s not like they were showing Mandy w/Nic Cage or something but so it goes I guess …

Yeah, that's the real reason the PG-13 rating is overused, and the reason why the G rating is rarely used these days (back in the day, Lion King was a G movie, and that has a death in it). A lot of people want to feel like they're watching something "edgy", even when they're not. What's the easiest way to do that? Just bump the rating up so it seems more edgy. Now G movies are PG, and PG movies are PG-13. I honestly think the rating system is just another marketing tactic these days.

So I’m assuming this will be the first “green” PG-13 tf film???

There are a decent handful of older PG movies with uncensored tits. That's all I have to add.

Completely agree

Exactly. Nothing in this film will warrant a PG-13. It should have been a PG. But then of course everyone would say "it's just a kids' movie" and wouldn't go see it.
