Takara-Tomy Mall have added images of their March releases – which includes the newly-revealed Decepticons. As with the previous Siege and Power of the Primes releases for Japan, these toys appear to be largely identical to their US releases showcased last weekend at New York Comic Con.
The main takeaway from these images – as well as giving us a new look at the toys – is a look at Siege Shockwave in vehicle mode without the additional parts. In this mode Shockwave is most definitely a submarine and is definitely never getting held upside-down in homage to his Generation 1 alternate mode. Nope. Not at all.
The images also have some nice, neutral poses of the characters from the front and back, with the rear views giving us a look at a side of the toys we almost never get to see in official photography and allows us to see where some of the vehicle mode parts are hidden – or not, as the case may be.
The Siege lineup showcased here includes:
- SG-08 Blowpipe
- SG-09 Battle Patrol
- SG-10 Air Strike Patrol
- SG-11 Flywheels
- SG-12 Hound
- SG-13 Megatron
- SG-14 Shockwave

On the sides of his tank component. But luckily not too much.

So no weathering on Skytread.

I mean, it’s somewhat annoying they are dipping into the 84 cast again (and ANOTHER Prime and Megatron), but we are also getting:
22 Micromasters (all first time updates aside from the cassette team)
Reflector (only available as a pricey convention exclusive)
Shockwave who’s never gotten a proper update (Legend scale and crappy off-model deluxe don’t count)
Cog, Brunt and Six Gun
Flywheels (who’s only been touched upon as a Titanmaster head)
Domestically released Targetmasters
Omega Supreme!!!
That’s a lot of fresh, and a fair amount of obscure, characters!

I appreciate how solid these guys look. You can finally look at them from all angles without noticing that the back is hollowed out. Yes, these characters aren't the most exciting thing ever after all these years, but man do they look good. The step-up in quality from Power of the Primes is very welcome.
Once we go beyond the bots that already have dozens of toys things will get really interesting with Siege.

And INCREDIBLY sharp sculpts.

They're actually some of the best updates I've seen. They not only have more articulation than the originals but also have new modes that offer more playability with bigger figures.
I hope they also release the classic Micromasters with bases.

What’s wrong with them? Far and away the most exciting part of the line for me!
(Flywheels looks good to, but not many of these seem like an improvement over prior CHUG versions between the greebles, the messy distressed paint and the wack alt modes)

Ugh,
Those Micromasters, why did they bother?
(Flywheels on the other hand is exactly why they SHOULD have bothered! Yummy articulation.)

What's also been clear from the start is that all the characters that aren't do-overs (Shockwave, Flywheels, the Cityformer partners, Reflector) are intentionally receiving very little (if any) weathering compared to the other figures, because Hasbro knows that they're the most interesting to the majority of the adult fanbase. They are definitely paying a fair share of attention to us, even if we don't agree with every single one of their decisions.

I'm really loving the Hound figure! I don't see anything Cybertrony about it though, since it looks more like a souped up Humvee. Whatevs though, it looks cool and is most likely replacing my Henkei Hound on the shelf.
Again, Megatron looks alright, I'll most likely pick it up and attempt to paint it. Shockwave looks amazing, though it also looks like he got punched in the eye, lol.
Dinobot Snarl
Jeep mode is perfect, make the lights blue to match the toy chest, give him two shoulder guns….done

Going by Hound's boxart, there's a possibility we'll see Cybertron Defense Hot Shot from the mold at some point:

The initial pictures of the Autobots had much stronger weathering paint apps than the later (maybe final) versions we saw. I'm assuming the same will hold true for the Deceptions. Hopefully that will make the paint removal easier. Rubbing alcohol FTW! I personally like the weathering, but I know a lot of people really don't. Hopefully it isn't too tough to remove for you guys.
