NYCC was kind to Generations fans as we got many confirmations on recent rumors regarding the highly-anticipated Decepticons, including our first looks at Shockwave, Skytread, and Trypticon’s tank buddy, Brunt. Check out the pics and some designer notes from John Warden after the jump!
UPDATE: In a surprising twist, these official images give us our first look at Generations Siege Red Alert! Red is shown decked out in the weapons made from Deluxe Weaponizer Brunt’s weapon and armor components
Battlemasters:
- Blowpipe
- Aimless
Micromasters:
- Airstrike Patrol
- Soundwave Spy Patrol (Laserbeak and Ravage)
Deluxe:
- Skytread (two alt modes)
- Refraktor (three combine into camera)
- Brunt (weaponizer)
Voyager:
- Megatron
- Soundwave
- Starscream (tetrajet)
Leader:
- Shockwave
Warden’s designer notes:
- WFC VOYAGER MEGATRON was designed with Scale in mind. He is perfectly in scale with WFC VOYAGER OPTIMUS PRIME, and draws influence from his appearance in the 1984 Pilot Episode of the TRANSFORMERS animated series.
- His alt form is a newly designed CYBERTRONIAN Tank, but his robot form is based on his G1 appearance.
- MEGATRON also includes a Sword, which is designed based on the rare 1985 Japanese Exclusive release of MEGATRON. The Sword and the classic arm-cannon can convert and merge together to form high-powered custom artillery
- WFC VOYAGER STARSCREAM is perfectly scaled to stand along other WFC characters, and is based on the original scale charts from the 1984 G1 animated series.
- STARSCREAM can convert to his classic G1 TETRAJET alt form, a version of this famous character which has never been seen before in toy form.
- STARSCREAM will feature his iconic NULL RAY cannons as accessory parts.
- His Robot form is fully detailed and is based on the original model-sheet art used to create the iconic character from the 1984 animated series.
- WFC VOYAGER SOUNDWAVE is faithfully based on the original model-sheet art used to create the iconic character from the 1984 animated series.
- SOUNDWAVE features articulation and a posed-out hand that allows him to stand in his classic “EJECT” pose, with his finger on the eject button.
- MICROMASTER SPY PATROL LASERBEAK and RAVAGE (Sold Separately) can fit inside his cassette bay.
- SOUNDWAVE’s alt form is a newly designed CYBERTRON Patrol Hovercraft, with a docking bay for the Cassette Bots in the back.
- Fans of the 1984 pilot episode will be pleased to know that SOUNDWAVE can be converted into a third “Easter egg” mode… a “CYBERTRONIAN Sensor Lamp”!
- WFC DELUXE REFRAKTOR is the perfect soldier to build your DECEPTICON army! This is the most screen-accurate version of this classic trooper ever created for TRANSFORMERS fans.
- REFRAKTOR comes with three accessory parts, a blaster, a battlefield shield, and a chest module. The chest module allows fans to customize their REFRAKTORS to create various versions and recreate their appearance in the G1 cartoon series.
- REFRAKTOR can convert into a CYBERTRONIAN Artillery Hovercraft vehicle, and die-hard fans can combine THREE of the same REFRAKTORS (Sold Separately) to create his classic Camera Mode, complete with Zoom Lens and Tripod!

Just as long as they actually paint Ramjet. And not just use a white mold.

Shockwave looks pretty bad-ass on that hoverboard. I don't know, Megatron.

What I said (None of that is what he actually said. ) was pretty self-explanatory, I didn't realize I needed to break it down for you. Also, YOU are the one making up all kinds of stuff – WHERE have I looked down on "everything that isn't 84" at? Quite the opposite, I'm more than happy with the representation I already have for 84-85 (well, soon will be with the voyager size Soundwave and Shockwave) and would much rather see other characters.
So, to refresh"
Calubin said: 84/85 will always be the definitive period of the TF franchise.
To which YOU responded:
To you.
Just because you like to be elitist about it doesn't mean the 87 – 92 isn't as definitive or more definitive.
You hate those characters, but Hasbro isn't going to stop making toys of them just to please you all the time.
Be grateful they are so squeemish about giving them representation in fiction and graciously allow others to enjoy this franchise too.
Hence my response "none of that was what he actually said."
NOTHING he said was being elitist. NOTHING he said indicated, or even hinted that he hates those characters. NOTHING he said showed a preference that Hasbro should stop making toys of 87-92 characters, or that it would please him.
I hope that breaks it down well enough for you. I didn't make shit up, YOU did.

The U.S. gun laws do not prevent Hasbro from releasing a gun Megatron. It would, however, have to have the orange tip. In the cases of some localities and/or states (such as NY) it would have to be in "wild" colors as well.
Avoiding public outcry is why you don't see a regular gun release of Megatron, and avoidance of those modes on Shockwave or Sixshot.
Fort Max
Yeah I think hasbro is really being very considerate to us with this line, all of the characters who are new to generations are being done the way we want while the guys we've had before are leaning more towards the Cybertronian design style.
King Glurch
And Flywheels' jet mode.
Fallout
they could be headmasters at rival colleges…
Windsweeper II
That's legit.
I've thought about this before.
I felt CW Scattershot would have made a good base for a pre-earth Mindwipe for example.
Thundershot
Well, tell that to all of the Targetmasters coming out in Siege… and the Micromasters with Earth modes.
Fort Max
Shhhhh!
DutyBeforeAll
But it they did them in a early part of the war, it would Predate them being headmasters.
Windsweeper II
Sold.
But I hope Apeface and Snapdragon are headmasters.
Wouldn't be too upset if they weren't though, it would just be kind of a bad joke since they didn't do them in TR.
Deathcatg
I got to admit, I was underwhelmed by Shockwave's alt-mode at first, but the more pictures and configurations I've seen since, the more I dig the possibilities. I still need to be sold on Soundwave though.
DutyBeforeAll
Even better, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Apeface, and Snapdragon.
Four Decepticon triple changers, all voyagers.
I don’t even care if Apeface and Snapdragon are headmasters.
Windsweeper II
I'd rather they did Blitzwing, Sandstorm, Springer and Octane as deluxes this time, but obviously that's not going to happen.
I'm good as far as voyager Blitzwings go.
I'm happy with my TR guy and as happy with him as Megs too after adding some Shapeways parts and taking off the wings.
WishfulThinking
That Optimus will be SOOOOOO hard to not buy.
Megatron, on the other hand, looks like he could use a little bit more paint. Hasbro seems to have a really hard time nailing down the perfect Megs…
DutyBeforeAll
And a voyager Blitzwing to match it!

They could just release a "stealth" version of Shockwave, like how they managed to release a Crasher repaint of Mirage.

edit: By the way, does anyone know what happened to Joe Kyde (former head of the Transformers design team)?
edit2: Nevermind, he's working with The LEGO Group now.
Windsweeper II
If they did a chug Astrotrain that looks like he did in the toon I might have to get rid of two toys, so that would suck even though it would be nice to have.
