Veteran Transformers voice actor David Sobolov has announced via his Twitter page that he’s added another Transformers character to his resume. Sobolov will be voicing the main Decepticon antagonist in the Bumblebee movie as Blitzwing! This is not David Sobolov’s first foray into the world of Transforming robots as he’s contributed his voice work to numerous Transformers video game and animated projects. However, his two most notable roles include Shockwave from Transformers Prime and the heroic Maximal Depth Charge in Beast Wars!

Do you think Blitzwing would be better with a depth charge voice or a shockwave voice? Or should it be something fresh?

I mean… pretty sure I saw an episode of My Little Pony which had a similar premise (and, like, I think even G1 did an episode that was very similar).

So yeah the movies are copying things that aren't Transformers.

……….okay…..?

ROTF was based on an episode of GoBots. In Search of Ancient GoBonauts – GoBots Wiki

…why should the movies ape some other series? If anything the movies going for different looks for the characters is very in-keeping with how Transformers handles its characters. Why do the movies have to look like G1? Armada doesn't look like G1, RID01 doesn't look like G1, Beast Wars certainly doesn't look like G1… why the heck should the movies go against the grain and just straight up copy something?
Plus, because they didn't copy G1, we get cool new characters and concepts like Barricade, Blackout, Crosshairs, Cogman, the All Spark, etc.
I'm getting tired of the "they look the same" argument. I'd be willing to bet any amount of money people would see characters in G1 and get them confused with someone else. It's only the benefit of several years and advancements in technology that someone can work out "oh hey, that's not Cliffjumper, that's Windcharger!"

Especially the "tusks" on the side.
Autobot Burnout
Never heard of Robotix but frankly that guy looks more like he has TLK Megatron's head to me.
Darth Gonzo
So people are complaining about Biltzwing looking like G1 Starscream, well Movie Megatron looks like Nemesis from Robotix.
Or am I the only one that sees it?
Autobot Burnout
Show it to somebody who thinks AoE is the Citizen Kane of Transformers. You'll get the same answer from them as you would from anybody from Paramount.

Armada Wheeljack is probably a better comparison. Considering that was the whole reason Energon/Cybertron Wheeljack got the name 'Downshift' instead.
But that's from an era when hasbro couldn't get their stories straight on choices. Not one of Archer's better eras to say the least since the reasons would change with every time the same question was asked. To the point it made it seem like he wasn't really doing anything at Hasbro. He'd say one thing, then the toon or the toys would brazenly refute it. (Including how there's two different stories about Armada Wheeljack. One that blames Takara, and the other that says the name was changed from Sideswipe because that was too "harsh of a name for an autobot". Then there's how Archer said minicons would not be needed to transform any transformers, only for their gimmick, literally the same month as Armada Blur came out. And how he said BW TM2 characters wouldn't show up in the toon even though they are getting re-released in the toy line, and barely 2 weeks later they did cameo. And those are only the ones that stand out. Probably plenty more examples from that era too.)
But this whole 'Starscream/blitzwing' thing is being blown out of proportion by fans anyway. TBH, it kind of makes sense when you think about the fact Blitzwing is using the miltary/S7 to hunt Bumblebee for him, so he's trying to look more 'friendly' instead of frightening. Maybe he deliberately chose an outward appearance like that for personal reasons to mock pre-war Starscream.
But it very much was planned that way for a long time for Blitzwing to appear. Blaming TF movie execs doesn't work on this one. Hasbro has more control of film content now, so they made that choice and are the ones that okayed it. Not really a big issue anyway. Continuity meant it had to be someone new anyway, and it's still going to be cool to see.

Haha, me too. Thanks tho!

I tried finding on on google, but didn't have any luck. That was the highest res one I could find
cappeca
Blitzwing, eh. So much for high hopes…
This is too perfect, movie executives need to piss on it somehow. It would never work.

I also want him to be Skywarp now. Any Skywarp. He has a great voice for Skywarp.

I agree but for completely different reasons. The designs post DOTM (and hell, even some DOTM designs) are all TRASH. Where's the identifiable kibble at weird angles and why do they all have to look like human stereotypes instead of alien bipeds?
You can't really count that one though, because Cybertron Downshift is obviously supposed to be the same guy as Energon Downshift, and he was the Wheeljack homage.
einhazard
So uhh… you got a higher resolution version of that picture? 'cuz I would like that a lot.
electronic456
Cool.
But only half of these designs count for me.
ToaDraco
I think it's just a really impressive fan project. I stumbled upon it about a year ago and was super impressed by it. Man, what I wouldn't give to see these designs in a full-on Transformers movie reboot. Ntm it would print money for Hasbro/Takara.

What is that from?
