so, so right, although i feel the need to defend Kup for having near-modern levels of arm articulation due to his transformation.

I still don't see what the point of toys that don't transform completely is.
What's the appeal?

Thought as much.

Not old ultras, this is just reusing the class name

So, Ultras are back then?
WishfulThinking
Slightly larger, I think. And definitely more bulky in not good ways.
I went ahead and sprang for an ultimate Megatron.
The Good:
– the sculpt has character
– the gimmick is kind of fun and a nice homage to 2007 movie Megatron
– leader-class size at $30
– Can go toe to toe with leader-class Cyber Battalion Optimus Prime
– no missiles!
The Bad:
– only 8 points of meaningful articulation (handling him was giving me flashbacks to green tank G2 Megatron)
– the tank mode feels incomplete with only two small tabs trying to keep his legs locked in, shin panels would have solved the problem
the Ugly:
– his torso is sculpted with the beam cannon gimmick in mind so, looking at him from the side, it's difficult to have him stand where he's either not slouching or not leaning slightly backwards

Nice! So ultras should be roughly voyager then I’d assume
cutestprincess
Actually that's Ultimate class optimus, Ultra class is one step down in size.
Fenrys
Thanks
Gepard
They're about current leader sized.
Fenrys
How big are the ultra class figures supposed to be in relation to a generations size class? Analogies to voyager? Larger?
ultramagnus80
That was just………..dumb.

Quality has gone up? Your kidding, right? I guess people will tell themselves anything to justify being the victim of highway robbery.

I was really wanting to get the Cyber Battalion but I have no ways of getting the figure where I live.
Flash1087
I haven't seen one in person yet but if the Ultra class is the Cyberverse equivalent of Voyager, I'd go with that because it's probably the closest to 'in-scale' he should be. I have the Cyber Battalion Shockwave and so long as you don't transform him and only look at him from the front, he looks awesome as a CHUG/IDW Shockwave thanks to his design and height.

Ok, so maybe this is (Finally) the one time G1 isn't a good example. As far as rose-tinted nostalgia glasses, please refer to the part where I mention Armada Cyclonus as my first Transformer.

Most of those transform by themselves. Some pretty insane engineering for 80's standards

All about choices
Never bought any Action Masters, they bothered me cuz they could'nt do action poses.
Was already annoyed with the Pretenders. This is what basically turned me off of TFs as a kid, besides boobies.
In fact, its why those joes always won me over when it came to playtime as a kid.
Because they had articulation and were cheaper than HeMan.
The G1s mostly just got transformed alot, but hell they took that away too since now they transform themselves.

Going to have change my mind on that 'durability' remark. The warrior class figures are definitely of "questionable Quality" for some. Though the ultimate class and other more staction based bigger seem far more durable.
But after seeing that bumblebee explode. Those drop test results are definitely mixed. Friction pegs etc means it didn't break, so it'd get a pass on the drop test. But wow. I haven't seen a tf actively explode like that since g1. Though granted in G1 it became shrapnel and you couldn't rebuild it.
Before anyone chimes in with "Happy meal toy!" Happy meal toys don't explode.
Though this does seem to be mostly something isolated to only a handful or 1 or 2 warrior class toys. The ultimate scale figures have been getting some wide praise.
