Thinking about it, Sentinel already told Optimus he was going to enslave humanity and make them rebuild Cybertron with Earth's remaining resources. Sentinel's kind of an idiot for killing his slaves. Wonder if Optimus even thought that Sentinel would do that?
Pichomp
No, really?

Megatron used a human politician to exile them. Optimus agreed to the exile thinking they were being kicked off Earth. They all boarded the shuttle and… Surprise! It was a trap. They were set on a collision course with the Sun. They were tricked into thinking the shuttle was being used to send them off Earth peacefully into exile. Hence they were duped.
In all fairness, the humans were too. By this guy and his smear campaign against the autobots.

Unlike this guy…

Who only pretended to leave to teach the humans a lesson about needing him. While thousands were killed. awesome.
Edit: the end of my post was cut off. So I fixed it.

That sounds like garbage tbh
RodimusSupreme
How were they duped?
Pichomp
You forgot to mention that some robots may urinate or fart during the movie, because audiences love that. See? Just like a Hollywood brainstorm session
.

And then they all explode. Multiple times. Because Transformers movies.

Leaked plot from Transformers 7: Bumblebee finally gets his voice back. He goes to tell Optimus, only to stumble upon Optimus Prime wearing the dead face of Lockdown. Bumblebee stares in horror as he looks around and sees the faces of dead Autobots and Decepticons on Optimus’ wall. Prime drops Lockdown’s face on the floor and moves toward Bumblebee. Cut to black. Camera pans out from Bumblebee’s face, now being worn By Optimus as he dances in front of a full size mirror. Ultra Magnus is then sent to investigate the serial killings of his fellow Cybertronians.
Edit: Directed by Rian Johnson

Dammit, now I have an excuse to finally sit down and watch The Last Knight. And I'd survived so long.
I've just seen the wave 2 Prime Masters in stores for the first time last week, so they're slowly trickling in.

The only excuse I can give Movie Optimus is how much the war bore down at him. AoE basically starts with him literally willing to kill humans after what they did to his comrades , and Prime only started being so aggressive in ROTF.
The Fallen , the main villain of the film could represent Optimus if he fully gave in to his darker urges – literally destroying the Earth to "save" his race. That motivation to save his race was later warped by Quintessa to create Nemesis Prime , the full realization of Movie Optimus' shattered psyche. I like to be think Optimus witnessing the constant war on Cybertron , then it spreading to Earth due to HIS decision to launch the AllSpark into space , only leading to the deaths of his most trusted friends and comrades starting with Jazz, then Sentinel betraying him to get the Pillars leading to the catastrophic Battle Of Chicago and in the aftermath , even more of his comrades were tracked down and killed. Imagine the amount of trauma Optimus has been through , and in the prequel comics (at least the ones set on Cybertron and the Convergence story by John Barber) Optimus was once a mere scientist who alongside Megatron later became co-rulers of Cybertron until Megatron first began to thirst for power , leading to the war.
Im not a psychiatrist , but I think Optimus in the films is basically half-insane and the films , prequel material and personal headcanon/inference are more than enough evidence to suggest it.
Btw this is in response to the above comments between RodimusSupreme and Pichomp.

Yes, but those Autobots were duped. Bays bots pretended to exile themselves, let the Decepticons kill thousands of people and destroy a city, all to prove that we need them. Cartoon bots = stupid. Bays bots = psychopaths.

DAMN YOU AUSTRALIA YOU LUCKY STINKING BASTARDS!!!
NOT ONLY DO YOU GET ALL THE NEW FIGURES ON YOUR TOY STORE SHELVES WHILE WE IN THE US GET SQUAT, NOW THIS!!!
RodimusSupreme
Didn't the Autobots in G1 also let the humans exile them after the dumb idiots were lied to by the Decepticons and they actually believed them?!
Pichomp
I have to admit, I enjoyed the batshit craziness of 2 and 3. It firmly established Optimus a a face ripping sociopath, and made the humans seem a little interesting by making them all F’d up cartoonish simpletons.
How about how heroic Optimus was when he let the decepticons decimate Chicago to prove to the humans that we need him. And the way he almost kills Sam with a huge shell casing from his gun as he states coldly, “We’ll kill them all.” All the while completely disregarding Sam and the rest of humanity… then he has the wreckers rip apart a helpless Decepticon with their bare hands like a pack of rabid chimpanzees.
Ahhh… Film making at its finest.

I don't hate the movies, but I do like criticizing them. In fact , Age Of Extinction is my favorite bc it at least tries something new and attempts expanding the universe , but all of that was thrown out when TLK came out. Basically , I don't like the films but appreciate what they added to the Transformers mythos.

Another movie thread hijacked by haters. *SIGH*
