Still new to modern TF collecting, Cliffjumper was on my list but I shy away from faux chest pieces, messy backpacks and super complex transformations so finally settled on tracking down a PS-09 and I adore him. Gotta say I also love Partsformer Cliffjumper backpack aside.

Like Go-Faster-Wings I like this guy even with FT's release right around the corner. For the right price I'd still add him to my collection. Some eBay seller had the gall to initiate communication with me as a watcher for a whopping 5 bucks off making the total $80 plus $9 shipping plus probably another $5 in tax. Unreal. In the wondeful world of the barter I get if someone wants something then they'll buy it at the requested price, but I can't see a used Hellion selling for more than $50 shipped. Seller had the nerve to block me with an initial counter of $25. Can any Hellion lovers talk me into dropping the $60 at the Dojo?

I went to Toy Dojo's physical store yesterday specifically to get myself an MP scaled Soundwave, and I ended up grabbing this guy too cause I love Cliffjumper quite a bit. I was not expecting to love him as much as I do. The whole look is just great, he screams Cliffjumper to me like no toy has before. The transformation was insane and the way the arms unfold to form the bottom of the vehicle and the freaking SEATS OF THE CAR blew my mind. I love this thing.View attachment 29617307View attachment 29617308

I feel like I walked into a minefield. I came here to see why PS-09A seemed to be different to all the promotional pictures and so similar to PS-09 instead, and whether or not it'd be worth buying with the current sale at ShowZ ($75), but I'm honestly left even more baffled and even less likely to buy it.
There are QC issues all over the place that seem rather out of place for MMC (though the Ocular Max line seems pretty cursed, unfortunately), and PS-09A seems like a marginal change at best (though I still have no idea what they actually changed – I originally thought the lower abdomen was stretched out but I guess it was just the colour change… which isn't even on the final product. Apparently the face is different but it's hard to tell).
It's all very odd… It's like they half-assed something that was already half-assed.
I don't know how MMC got Arcee and Springer right but managed to screw up pretty much everything else, especially Cliffjumper and Cosmos (with the latter at least looking great), not including the combiners since they're really a separate thing despite the branding.

I really hope since Ocular Max reissued Cliff and Mirage, I hope they also reissue their trailbreaker and hoist!

I got Imp too, and had 90% of the same issues. I found the same headlight missing, but it was in the package when I later looked. The hood on mine comes off with a tiny bit of force, but honestly I kinda like popping it off to make the transformation a little easier lol. I disassembled the hips, thighs and feet to add a little shock oil to make transformation less scary. Although honestly, he worked fine with just the screwed back off a half-turn even without oil. Those little black "clips" on the robot knees that peg in to lock the legs don't really peg in and tend to pop off during the conversion to alt mode. I'd leave them in the box if it was for the fact that the legs look bad without them. The transformation isn't too bad, but I just can't get the lower part of the car body formed from the robot forearms to peg in solidly. Luckily the car hold together well from the door's pegs, but it's a bummer and a bit of an eyesore.
This was my first run with the mold and so I wasn't sure either what was QC luck or not. Overall, I like the toy in concept, but QC is sadly not great. It's in a bad middle ground where nothing easily breaks, so I don't feel like I could request a replacement or anything, but it's also just so off that I can't suggest it to people to pick up.

Got Imp today in the mail. I ordered him since it was a MMC mold release, and I've generally liked most of their OX stuff.
Not sure if I got the lemon of the bunch or what, but I'm having QC issues all over the place here. The slide bar on the door hinge is slightly deformed and bent, which makes the alt mode door not hold together. The front hood panels are stupid tight and refuse to move. I unscrewed the foot in order to move them into place and avoid shearing them off. Had to do it for both feet, so that was not reassuring. On top of that, I'm missing the same headlight that LazyAza is missing.
Going to contact the retailer about this and see about a replacement.
Anyone else get him yet, as I'm curious if it is worth getting a replacement if all of them are missing headlights.

Hey, would anyone be interested in the new Alternative version? He is a great figure but I don't personally like him enough to want to keep him.
Akupro
How are you supposed to swap heads?
nomolos
So in the "alternate" were the browns changed to black or was it left a weird turd color?
LazyAza
Missing a headlight on my Imp. Also was reminded today how much I don't like transforming this mold so I'll certainly never be doing so to either of these.

A shame as theirs stuff I do like about Hellion, the weird ab never bothered me much but god transforming him just isn't ever fun. As my original release being exploded can attest to.
Craigmcgowan1984
Send them pictures of the problem, you never know I once had a guy send me 3 quarters of a MP smokescreen as replacement for a leg and a wing mirror lol
Wolfang
I would write to ShowZ, but I don't think I know what I would be requesting a replacement part for.
Girl Pants
Ah jeez, hearing that some people's reissues are having some issues is making me a bit nervous about the blue redeco now.
Craigmcgowan1984
I had this problem too, the tabs on the feet got stressed so PSX is sending replacement, don't think the plastic was tolerance tested on this reissue, which is a shame as MMC usually do good work.

I just started trying to transform mine. None of this is confidence building. I still haven't worked the backpack loose. I guess I'm finding it hard to believe that I'm just supposed to yank on it while gaining leverage from, what, the thin waist? I can't even tell where it pegs in or see its axis of rotation. I've been trying to jam spudgers into his backpack on the off chance that knocks something loose.
EDIT: after accidentally spudgering off the roof of the car (his chest), I was able to pry open his backpack. I think he's actually a really clever bot, but I wish the fit and finish were a little better. Might be my fault, but no matter how much I squeeze or strategically angle things, I can't get the hood to tab in to the runningboard (or whatever it is).

same! i think the og release probably had better qc? the backpack was so tight that when it finally popped open, it did so with much force that it rammed into his head and snapped the neck peg.
deciding to ignore rhat for a bit, i tried to work the backpack some, with oil and just kept transforming it but it never loosened up and was just stuck. i had to eventually shave the diecast and plastic down until it was finally transformable. the chest popped off too; had to glue it back.
the bottom panels in car mode dont stay peg into anything and just flop about.
its sad cuz i really wanted to like this figure cuz theres no faux parts
in the least i used a m1.5 screw to fix the head and now its way better reinforced…so thats a plus
edit to add: just fixed bottom panels – the holes the prg to the front of the car were too small so exactoed a larger hole. rear ones i shaved the pegs to fit better. they dont stay snug in place via the oegs but in the least now its held loosely in place and not popping off from big peg small hole issue.
mine fell off with ease – it looked like no glue. was it designed to be removable?
Craigmcgowan1984
Same thing happened with mine, this reissue seems to have QC problems was no glue on him to hold the roof on
bobagorof
I don't recall having any issues transforming mine.
I don't think I'm a whiz at this sort of thing, but I think if the roof is falling off you've done something wrong.
Craigmcgowan1984
The instructions say to change to car mode do steps in reverse so the way he's packed shouldn't matter
