And once again thanks to 2005 Boards member is456, we can share for you new in-hand images of Studio Series Wave 2 Revenge Of The Fallen Megatron.
We can see in-package images of Megatron as well as other out of the box pictures, but still in the inner plastic bubble. The mold shows almost no kibble and looks very movie accurate, even more than previous Voyager and Leader class toys of the character. Most of the body is made of gray plastic, with minor gold paint applications and some black paint on the legs and feet.
You can check out the mirrored images after the jump and then sound off your impressions at the 2005 Boards!

Good point. I layer of enamel (spray) or future (it has a new name now, I forget what though) should do it. It may shift the color a bit, but Megs was under the sea for a while, the shift might just be flattering.

How do you prevent self-applied paint from scraping and chipping? Would a spray fixative work? I think those might mess with the color sometimes. I like for my figures to be painted, but I also want them to remain playable.

Tamiya Gunmetal. It's incredibly easy to apply. Then dry- brush some sort of silver over it and the end result will blow away anything Takara would have done anyhow.

Amazon had Megatron in stock sold by Amazon earlier today. I bought one but it says it won't arrive until June 4th. Is there a street date for wave 2?
HunterGreen2005
I am not keen on that dull gray plastic. I'll just wait for the Takara version with the better paint apps Waitaminute…

My Starscream has issues with one Leg Tab, and one Ab Tab. and looking at him from straight top down, his backpack is not flush.
All of these toys have individual QC Issues, and Design Quirks.

….in regards to that hollow side view….apparently the shoulder cannons can be folded back in such a way that they cover that gap.
So, that's good.
Shmoptimus Prime
Same here! I actually thought it was annoying how many times I've seen that one pic of this megatron from the side. It's all over instagram and the forums. I don't particularly care, but it's still an odd thing to ignore as a toy designer. The only thing I can imagine is budget was the reason.

Hey no hard feelings, I guess I did miss the part of your post where you said you liked the figures. I'm not trying to start a pro-Hastak circlejerk, cause they certainly screw up more often than not, but it's just disappointing to see so many people focusing on the negatives rather than the positives of these figures. Having handled all of the Studio Series figures released so far, it's clear that some questionable design choices are holding the figures back from perfection. But IMO they're still easily the best mainline scale representations of those characters (or at least those specific bodies/forms). My frustration wasn't directed at you specifically.

I modded my leader Megatron with a 3rd party arm + paint on his face, so I feel a lesser need to pick this version up…
…but he looks awesome so screw it, I’ll take one. Plus altmode looks way better of course. Not bothered by the gap in his chest too much.
Lady Slipstream
Im still waiting for someone to show how he would look with his shoulder cannons trying to hide the chest gap.

I have to agree here, I love the line, I'll be getting Brawl and Megs and I'm sure I'll love them to bits. That said the tank barrel and hollow sides do put a dampen to my hype.

I also think it's fine to be a bit more picky when the prices are what they are for the size of the figures. They may be more involved, but when they sit on the same store shelf/peg with figures in the same supposed size class, it's hard to swallow the small $20 Deluxes when the larger $16 PotP Deluxes are right there.
Scale also means NOTHING to the common shopper who's kid wants a new Transformer, so the pricing argument goes out the window there.
On topic…
I am not a fan of the line, but that Megatron is a definite"bought in sight/site" for me. Don't care about the chest gap, as it will barely be noticable posed with the arms not above the head.

Seems you missed the point of my post or I didn't say it clearly enough. I LOVE the studio series. To me it's the best Hasbro toyline in many years. However, a lot of the problems I noted are NOT subjective OR QC-based, but are instead really odd problems that make some of the figures feel unfinished. I admit that I stretched it a bit to make a full list, but also the issues you listed out as not bothering you definitely bother a lot of people, if not most of the people on the boards and are things that could have easily been fixed.
Like, who in the fuck looked at Ratchet's roof rack hanging off his ass and said "yep, that's OK and not worth one more hinge to clear up" or who looked at Brawl's ding dong between his legs and thought "yep, that's a finished product that no one will find odd". They mostly seem to have one thing that makes them feel like someone didn't have time or money to fix, and that's weird.
And just for 100% clarification: I LOVE THIS LINE AND HAVE PLANS TO GET ALMOST EVERY FIGURE THAT'S BEEN ANNOUNCED/RELEASED.

^The colored brown accented old LC Grimlock? :
When did dinosaurs learn to color accent their skins? :
harrismonkey
That's one of the big issues. They really aren't Dino legs at all, but human legs that are passable from some angles.
In some ways I actually prefer the old leader class. That dino certainly wasn't screen accurate (looked more like a chinese dragon than a t-rex), but for what it was it looked pretty good from most angles. Of course I custom painted mine. The factory colors were beyond awful.
John TheDestroyer
I'm sure even if his robot legs collapsed just a little bit more for dino mode, he would look much better. Those crazy long dino legs are what throws me off the most with that figure.

I got to bold the text so it's get noted :
Seriously, I'm feeling that the Studio Series is a "near finished" product.
I mean they have this movie accuracy thing but ALWAYS comes up short at the end.
They're just this close but they leave it right away.
It's like you're given the climax then suddenly it's over an instant :
I do hope hasbro will get asked about these "shortcomings" in an interview be it Hascon or some toy con event. I hope they don't to evasion mode on this like what they did to MPM-4 :
harrismonkey
I'm less concerned with Grimlock's butt flap than all the massive gaps where i can see through his body, his upper dino torso being almost 2 dimensional (flat), and leg proportions being quite off. He looks STUNNING from 3-4 angles, but really bad from most others. He's one of my least favorite of the group. I wish they'd made Dino mode the primary focus and cut the corners on bot mode instead.
