Partnering up with Takara Tomy, Japanese video rental chain Tsutaya is holding a special campaign for Transformers: The Last Knight King.
The campaign will be held from December 13th, 2017 to January 8th, 2018.
All you (Japanese fans) have to do is to rent the movie from Tsutaya, answer a questionnaire and you will stand a chance to win (A) TLK-15 Calibur Optimus Prime, (B) TLK-19 Megatron or (C) RC Autobot Sqweeks.
This announcement is accompanied by a neat artwork of MP-10 Optimus Prime coming out of the store with his rented videos.
You can check out the winning prizes after the jump.

Honestly, they lasted much longer than rental shops in the US, but we're seeing the first signs that Tsutaya is on the way out now. The local branch recently fired 90% of their staff and installed self serve checkout stands. You even unlock your own dvd security cases. And they're doing the thing where you can order online and have dvds sent to you. These are the exact same desperation moves Blockbuster made in the final 3 years of being run out of business by Netflix. And not coincidentally, Japan finally got Netflix 2 years ago.
Anyway, I finally rented TLK and entered the contest. Odds are unbelievably slim, but here's hoping.

Everything in this thread is beautiful.

LOL… I didn't post last night when I first saw this, but thank you. This made me guffaw level 20!

He's got that "I just rented Porn, and nobody stopped me." strut.

Do they still have video rentals?

Very nice convoy!!
I like him!

Very cool! The only one that I really liked was the one at shibuya crossing. I went to a dvd release event there. Usually I would go to HMV or Tower for promos, but Tsutaya is way better for rentals and used bargains.

Yeah, since it's a chain, not all of them will be the same size or offer the same variety of stuff. We've seen our fair share of small hole-in-the-wall Tsutayas here and there. My wife is the diehard Tsutaya fan and she actively goes out of our way to go to the fancier ones around Tokyo and elsewhere. Ginza is on another level of ritzy though, lol. We didn't buy anything from there even if she wanted to (she's saving up her yennies for a moped scooter).

I used to live by the tsutaya by seijogakuen in setagaya. It was pretty pedestrian, but rented some stuff. Been to several in Katori, but they were pretty limited to books and media. The Ginza one must be great as it’s in a nice district.

You sir have officially won the Transformers fandom. We can now shut the home thing down. Everyone go home.

We're not fan of Starbucks (the Japanese seem to love their crappy coffee; anywhere you go in the world you can always count on Starbucks to burn their coffee), but my wife and I have found quite a few cool books at Tsutaya. We bought video game art books from Capcom and art books from the illustrator who does the neat album covers for the Japanese alt rock band Asian Kung Fu Generation. Lots of cool books on design, history, cooking, and architecture.
The Ginza 6 Tsutaya had some Star Wars stuff for sale, with metal model kits of X-Wings and even one of the Anakin/Luke Graflex lightsaber hilt. We never saw Transformers related stuff at Tsutaya before but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for it.

I want to believe Optimus picked up a bunch of Mel Brooks movies.

I love how satisfied prime looks. I have never gotten anything good at tsutaya

Or is it Elita One?!

I was thinking the same thing.
Well freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He must have heard of Arcee's debut in Playboy.

Just in case this becomes a thing, I want everyone to have the best image upscale that software can buy.

That store is amazing! Thanks for posting the photos, it looks like Barnes & Nobles heaven. Though I am biased given that I consider a fun afternoon holing up in B & N to read and drink coffee. In the age of ebooks it does my bibliophile heart well to see print media is still going strong. Don't get me wrong I love digital books/magazines in terms of convince. There's something about spending time in a brick and motor book store that can't be replicated.
