Transformers Authentics toyline is being distributed around the world and the first market to receive the new toys is Philippines. 2005 Boards Member Ikkad is bringing us our in-hand look at the figures straight from the country.
Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and Starscream are all significantly larger than the current Legion Class figures and the reviewer suggests that they are approximately Scout Class sized. This is actually a good news to hear, especially considering the fact that the toys are only priced at around US$ 5.
The not-so-happy-news comes from the plastic and the paint which is of lower quality than any other main line Transformers figures.
Megatron and Starscream are well articulated in robot mode when compared with the two Autobots; Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. The build quality is also high on the two Decepticons. All four figures have 3 to 6 step Transformation similar to McDonald’s Happy Meal Transformers figures of the Animated era.

They were all at my local department store today (The price, just to reiterate, is in Philippine Peso).
It’s a bad figure. The lack of elbows really restrict poseability, and the hollow legs prevent you from standing him up in most poses. The four step transformation is actually a bit interesting, as it differs from the Optimus standard. However, it results in the use of fake chest windows. The plastic is very cheap.
Here are some comparisons with the two other small Optimus molds. It’s funny how the guy is taller than the T30 Legends.

Dude, that was a drama and bait post. I love it!

And why exactly is that?

This is the beginning of the end.

That's literally their intended purpose. Though, mainly for overseas markets, they will surely show up here too.

I really feel like these will be the new dollar store figures

Gotta save 4 cents on that printer ink!! If they save 5 they'll make the plastic a micron thicker!

Such a contrast from the flashy front packaging…

No, your eyes are not deceiving you, and there's nothing wrong with the camera either. The cardbacks are really grayscaled.

That wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

I'll be honest with you. I think the Happy Meal toy might have better plastic.

Might hang these on the tree. Would make decent ornaments.

If I recall correctly: Optimus Prime had 4 steps, Megatron had 5 steps, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Starscream and Lugnut had 3 steps each. So I'm right, I guess.

I wish I had never gotten the Starscream from that promotion, he makes the Evergreen figure look like a Masterpiece.

I think someone hasn't played with Animated Happy Meal toys in quite some time.

Hey, any chance you can get me a photo of the barcodes (the official Hasbro ones printed on the packaging, not the stickers added by the stores)?
EDIT: Scrap that, got those. Thanks anyways!

They go for Php 300 each or around $6 a figure.

I agree with almost everything you said, but there's no way this hollow thin brittle plastic toys are good for kids. It's unbelievable how almost every toy now that isn't for pre-school is hollow thin garbage, I still have some of my childhood toys and they're thick and soild as I remember. I can't stand that stupid cycle of excuse by American toy companies saying kids don't play anymore with toys and then making those lousy things no one wants.

1 word. Ugly.

Judging by the size of that guys hand, these look substantially bigger than Legends. Anyone get a good eye on the price in pesos in the Philippines?
