They are making figures too. You too can get your own Megatron featuring a Grimlock's severed head hand puppet!View attachment 27849976

I love it. Its the perfect fever dream of 80s playtime with toys in comic book form. I have a huge hate for IDW and this is the only thing I will ever read from them.
That being said…pins. I want all of those logos. Shouldn't be hard to feel out!

I love this series and the art style, not really won over by the… static-ness of those pins and model though? Like, they're okay I guess…
That skateboard deck is nice though.

Interesting little things…although not terribly attractive, in my opinion.
Well, for the price, they could have at least allowed people to choose the pin they want (I sooo hate blind bags… )

Yeah, older comics (pre-Bronze Age and a few ones from the Bronze Age) tend to date fairly quickly. Stan Lee's dialogue was always kind of…quirky, and the 60's Kirby art isn't everyone's favorite either. And those guys were the best in the field at the time! Honestly, though I love this era of comics, there's a lot of it I ignore, lol. Like we've agreed, it comes down to preference and bias. Mine just happens to really, REALLY like the early Marvel Comics…which is probably why I dislike Tom Scioli's take on Transformers and G.I. Joe so much. Nice to agree to disagree without name-calling and other violent things.
Anyways, SOME of the art and concepts are cool, but the execution is WAY off. Story, character development, and narrative flow are just…non-existent? The comic has the same problem early Marvel TF comics had, in that there are too many characters introduced and showcased. At least the Marvel ones had fairly consistent art. That said, I am a sucker for G1 Dino Grimlock merch though. And I appreciate some of the interesting reinterpretations of the lore and characters. Gives the G1 bots a shot in the arm in some ways (Can't spend this whole post crapping on someone's work; it has good moments).

I feel like the comics were the 80s throwback art of Hip Hop Family Tree blended with the “This is actually just a kid playing with his toys” writing of the Lego Movie, but missing what makes either of those interesting. To me, at least; put all the usual caveats here about tastes being different.

Ohh, that pins box with Scioli art is gorgeous. Too bad I don't like the designs of the pins themselves.
Not me! I understand it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I loved it. Very creative and fun book in my opinion. It has the heart of a kid playing with his toys and reinventing TF and Joe lore in cool ways as the story goes along. If it were up to me, I'd hire Scioli to do 'Transformers vs …' books annually.
Avon
Man I loved this series! Would love for Scioli to return to it with a one off or two at some point.
That said, this merch is pretty underwhelming for me. The skateboard art is cool, but the cobra commander fig and the gi joe pins don't really capture his style. The tf pins are ok, though I guess I'm just not really interested in pins as a thing. Must be the effect of the rabies.

Well, I'll bet my wife is going to want that Grimlock pin, regardless of not knowing that comic exists, much less not having read it. And I kind of like a few of those other wow, is Shockwave a Decepticon, I can't tell…
Kenchanayoh
Wait for a clearance on that. It’s gonna come
Venixion
Screw that! I'll pick up Cobra Commander on ebay for less.
batfan007
Great art and concept. Atrocious writing. If you can even call it writing, which I don't.
It's more arthouse fever dream, and not a good one.

"I love it. " 'I can't agree" "I think it was better than…"
Vs
"Hideous" "Eyesore" "Total Crap" "Pissed on Kirby" "Obnoxious" "Should be Shunned"
Yeah, the fans are rabbid.
(And Thanoscopter has nothing to do with Silver Age)

Perhaps "utterly garbage" was too harsh of a phrase, but I'm just generally not a fan of that era because it seems more…dated and childish, I guess? I dunno, like you said you have the origins of some of the greatest comic book heroes of all time and then you get stuff like the Thanoscopter and either rest. It's probably just general nerd culture's perception of that age that's warped my views, but I'm just not a fan of older comics. It's part of the reason I couldn't get into the initial run of the Marvel TF comics.
Chillyn
Ok, put me down for the skate deck
Edit: aaaaand it's a go

Yes.
Yes.
Not all Silver Age comics were "utterly garbage" IMHO. Fantastic Four and Spider-Man from that era are…well, fantastic. Silver Age Superman is still the best version of that character. About 90% of all the current popular movie characters came from this era. Comics now are completely different from comics then. It's easy to dismiss older parts of the medium out of hand…for instance, I dislike the Golden Age of comics, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily an OBJECTIVE dumpster fire of weird time jumps and disjointed dialogue. Of course, your mileage may vary. You do you and all that. /bias rant
Back on topic, yeah this comic was an eyesore and pissed on the legacy of Jack Kirby. BUT while TF V GI Joe is crap, these pins are pretty nice. May grab one blind bag (or whatever they are called) to see what I get. Loot Boxes IRL, am I right?
Driskull98
It's attempt to mimic silver age comics is brilliant…in exposing how utterly garbage comics of those era were.
It's "wackiness" comes off as very try-hardy in a "LOL LOOK AT HOW WIIIIIIILD WE'RE GETTING" kind of way. It's art style is hideous and any comic where Transformers actually eat people should be as shunned and excommunicated as The Beast is.
Gangu Stars
If people like it, awesome. I think it's total crap.
jaws
Seriously??????????????????????
Tenebre
I don't know if I'd call it obnoxious, but I bought the first couple issues…and it wasn't for me.
