A new comic preview has been uploaded to Apple’s iBooks service, this time for IDW Publishing’s Optimus Prime #12 preview! Thundercracker arrives at the Decepticons’ home of Sanctuary Station to see how things are doing, and we get to say hello to some characters who have been absent for some time, such as Cosmos and Sky-Byte. Theirs are not the only comebacks, however, as Robots in Disguise artist Andrew Griffith returns to Transformers fill in for this issue! The comic’s due for release on November 1, but before then, you can check out the three-page preview after the break.

Comics are a visual serial medium that are good for long-term storytelling and possess some of the advantages of prose writing combined with the advantages images have in rapid storytelling, making them well suited for long-term storytelling, shared world environments where multiple creators work on related titles month to month, and similar. This allows for long term character development and payoffs with long setups and similar aspects of story telling, even while combined with punchy issue-to-issue scenes.
Specifically IDW transformers, they're the story of the end of the Autobot/Decepticon war and what comes after, involving Earth and elsewise.

They're cheaper to make than cartoons.

I just realized Slugslinger and I share the same view on what’s been going on this comic lately.

Comics are a great medium for transformer fans to read about their favorite characters and see them in action. Its like movies or games. Its another way for fans to enjoy their transformers.
A great comic can bring the figs you have on your display to life. They are sometimes better then the movies and most fans would agree that mtmte was streets ahead of the bay movies.
Just my two cents

Why everyone likes it.
Optimus Prime –
Pyra Magna and The Transformers!
CleverNamePendingatron
With the amount of dissatisfaction towards Optimus's leadership these days, I feel like we're only one gorilla-bot's introduction away from Pyra Magna and her possie pulling a Getaway on Prime.

Explain what exactly?

Someone explain comics to me.

The problem is jazz is becoming a villain if he isn't already in the eyes of the earth population. Ironic considering he's embraced earth culture more then most
Rockdown
Jazz has form for harming humans… I hope he stomps a few in this issue.

I think a lot of us read comics to escape the daily drudge of politics and world events that dominates our day to day lives. Its escapism. Especially with TFS. Can't wait to get back to Cybertron.
Politics on Cybertron was okay in season one of ex rid because it was starscream at his manipulative best. Itvstill felt different from earth politics. This is too like modern society now.
Ah well once a TFS story is set on earth these kind of stories will happen.

I think what bogs down the book quite often are the constant political themes. Politics has always been scattered throughout TF as a whole but sometimes I just want the escapism of alien robots doing alien robot things. As of lately the book has gotten even more topical which is dandy and all if it weren't so prominent in our day to day as of lately. I think things will get a little more exciting once we hit issue 13 which takes place in the wild lands of Cybertron. Optimus is at his best the moment he's off doing heroics as opposed to messing up in the political arena.

I'm not sure I'm particularly enjoying the optimus prime ongoing. This preview doesn't make me want to read this. I will as I'm in for the long haul but this isn't an exciting preview.
Hopefully things will get better
