Thanks to our team at Hascon 2017, we have some great Power Of The Primes Dinobot Combiner Volcanicus Prototype In-Hand Pictures.
The Prototype was shown during the event and we can see some nice features of the combined figure:
*It has compatible Combiner Wars combination ports.
*New molded hands.
*New molded feet with articulated ankles (Similar to the ones on CW Computron).
*Two extra hands can be placed in the torso for a bulkier look and can be attached to the feet for additional support.
*Nice poseability, similar to previous CW combiners.
You can click on the bar to see the gallery and join to the discussion at the 2005 Boards.

Where does Slash go?

The Dinobots look pretty good as individuals and will be an easy buy except Grimlock. I have no problems with these being deluxe figures

For anyone worried about Volcanicus's shoulders, if you look closely at them here:
Especially between the dino-hips and the shell-flaps, you can see these big tabs wich are meant to slot into the flaps. I went back to look at the stock photo of PotP Grimlock:
And if you look closely at the flap behind his right shoulder in robot-mode, you can see a slot for where the tab on his dino-leg will go. Plus the top of his dino-hips/robot shoulders have these indents meant to semi-lock them into place for combined mode. And considering what we've seen so-far of Volcanicus in-hand being a resin prototype which isn't as tight or durable as a full plastic figure, he'll most likely be far more solid when available for retail.

When I get them I'll probably only combine it once just to see and just leave them in uncombined for display
T-Hybrid
The only combiner prototype was a resin model so it wouldn't have been strong enough material to stand under it's own power.
HigherPrimate
Have we actually seen him stand up under his own power?
Smitty.1981
No, but your average customer is not going to care as much as we do. My son has a G2 Menasor and he love the thing, weird hips and all.
Dachande
Oh, same here.
Not every general consumer wants to deal with it, though.
Smitty.1981
I've always found flawed toys kind of fun a problem to solve. Although I enjoy finding ways to fix things so that may be just me.
Dachande
No, but having obvious engineering flaws right from the start is never good. Most figures don't need help, as some of the 'flaws' are more related to an individual's tastes (tighter joints or more paint). A figure that either has balance issues, bad tolerances or just bad engineering is different (looking at you Generations Blitzwing).
Smitty.1981
I won't say you're wrong but no toy is ever perfect.
Dachande
That shouldn't be necessary. If a figure needs help straight out of the box then it isn't a good figure.

While we wait for an actual, good digibasher to do this, and/or for an official render of the toy or an official image of the actual products in combined mode…
… make your eyes bleed with my horribly crappy, VERY sloppily done digibash

I based the color choices on the artwork for Volcanicus, plus what they showed as Hascon in terms of the actual individual figures. I didn't get said colors even close to accurate to real world hues, but I tried. I didn't try very hard, but I tried lol.

At least Grimlock is affected a bit, his dino mode body seems wide and flat and the tail is bulky because of the space taken by the combiner ports. Not a total deal breaker for me, but something I noticed.
Richard McBeef
These combiners are going to be super friggin' posable with this new system of hands and feet. Oh man, this is really exciting!
Smitty.1981
That reminds me that people had problem with Motormaster's torso and found fan mods and got upgrade kits for it to make it better, why bash the Dinobots for something that can and will be fixed by the fandom?
AnonymousDwell
Wow this is the best image (at least straight on/front on image) I've seen to date. Awesome, thank-you.

^^^Perfect Effect feet to the rescue^^^
When will we get a color picture of the combiner??

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere and I've just missed it, but TFWiki have been posting some additional images of the Volcanicus prototype over on the Twitters, including a nifty unseen feature of the hands and feet…

Yeah, I'm hoping for, at least, a PE v5 mold that looks more animalistic – think the FP feet for their Dinoking, the Volcanicus box art, etc. I know Abominus has canonically boring feet, but I'd be down for something more animalistic for him, too
