Today, Transformers director Michael Bay and actor Mark Wahlberg each announced plans to assist with Hurricane Harvey relief.
In a series of tweets, Bay posted about his donation of $100,000 to the people of Texas which will be directed towards animal shelters and finding ways to provide cars to families that lost vehicles and have no insurance. Via Instagram, Wahlberg shared AQUAhydrate plans to ensure clean water access by sending bottled water to communities in need.
When tragedy strikes, it’s our duty as Americans to lead the charge and help those in need. Our trucks are on the way!
We commend these efforts among many others and encourage you to show your TFW2005 community spirit by helping in any way that you can.

Perfectly well said. A thread aint poison just because they've been made to look selfish and cold-hearted. They can't even give Bay credit where it's due, and really think it's necessary to bring up whether they like the TF films or not over an article on charity donation. Just shows where their minds and hearts truly are.

Just when you thought that people could be mature…
Come on now, have we dontated as much as we spend on Toys?

*finally decides to look at thread again*
*yikes,appreciate what is already there*
CKPRIME
I'm not so sure about that, at least in the forum.
Livingdeaddan
Evidence never beats opinion, not in this forum, not in this world!
CKPRIME
Those can be dispatched for all to see using evidence.
Livingdeaddan
Maybe, but it seems to me the flipside of that is that people that make arguments against him that aren't irrational insults, are still gonna have this thrown back at them.
Don't get me wrong, people that think Bay is a goat fucking satanist are fare game, but most of us that don't think his work cuts it don't think that, or have all that much opinion on Bay as a person at all. actually i like his interviews, his enthusiasm for camera tech is infectious.
CKPRIME
I think we can all agree the Michael Bay is no saint, and he CAN do wrong. People do slam him for irrational reasons and this thread is perfect evidence of it, so when someone make some ridiculous irrational insults against him this thread will definitely brought up. As it should be.
Livingdeaddan
I don't really disagree with, but I just know this will come back to haunt us. In the future when people want to voice their opinions about problems with the movies, some twats gonna chime in with some bullshit about how "[people] just hate bay, evens though he's a nice guy who donated money to charity, but even that wasn't enough you still hate him!" Yadeyada.

It's not poison. There are poisonous elements. Those can be removed. The thread started out fine until someone had to make a complaint about stars doing what they always do like this was the straw that broke the camels back. Then you had others chiming in in agreement, going on and on about how they've done the same thing, but they're not public heroes, so why should a star be.
The rest were people countering such selfish mindsets. Only a few were poison, there's no need to close this thread. Oh, and it's a news thread, they don't close those.

The victims affected need all the help they can get. We don't need to drag this thread to the ground.
SPLIT LIP
This is the most level-headed post in the thread.
Livingdeaddan
Not to mention the more you "brag" the more people you inspire to donate too.
Psychoshi
First off, great that money was donated. Any amount is a good thing.
I too, immediately thought how it comes across as being vain for posting a photo of yourself holding a sign that says how much you donated. Why not just post a message saying that you cared enough and donated some money. But I was going to just keep that thought to myself, as the act of donation was really the important thing, and to me, sort of overrides anything else.
But then I remembered how social media usually works, and that people like to broadcast about themselves for attention. It's just how people are, we all crave attention.
And like it or not, well-known famous celebrities have so many more people that care about them and follow than that of a non-celeb.
If some regular no-name person were to come out, or leak a scandalous video, nobody would care, except the person's friends, family, and acquaintances. But if it's a big name celebrity, it'll blow up all over the internet and magazine covers everywhere.
Did I start to care more about Parkinson's disease because of M J Fox, or spinal injuries after Christopher Reeve? Not really. But the news media sure did. At least it helped raise awareness. That is the power of fame.
As I read more replies in the thread, I should have known that others would respond about the supposed importance of famous people's donations. Look, if a celeb wants to brag about donating to some charity to stroke their ego, let them. They didn't have to give anything. I could be donating thousands to starving kids out there instead of buying myself all of these plastic robot figures.
SPLIT LIP
Is that how that works?
So because they "bragged" about donating, what, does that money they give now disappear? Do all the relief and supplies and help they bring karmatically get counteracted by more damage? I'm genuinely curious how this good deed is "cancelled out."
Also, you're allowed to mention if you do a good deed. You don't have to do it in silence. Being generous and being a complete altruist are different things. Bay could be waving his dick around screaming how he's so generous, it doesn't make his donations any less appreciated or helpful.
Livingdeaddan
Bay should donate his TLK pay check to Houston first responders, at least then we could agree some good came out of the movie!
Oh, and let's close this thread. It's poison.
Livingdeaddan
What a horrible generalisation you make. I'm sure most movie critics on this site respect bay for making a large donation, but still think he's a terrible hack of a director.
TFXProtector
Because they're walking wads of used toilet paper.
Enigma2K2
That's a hell of a lot more than I donated. Good on you Bay. Your movies may be s***, but even you are capable of good deeds.
Slingshot
I think it's rather unfortunate when individuals feel the need to brag about charity work. Charity work is great and I belief 100% in it, but when people use it for attention, that's downright immoral and cancels out any possible good.
Unfortunately, this is just how our messed up culture works.
