Speaking to Den Of Geeks, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura briefly explained few things regarding the upcoming movie Transformers Universe: Bumblebee.
“We are starting to shoot a week from today. We had decided to do this well before (The Last Knight) had come out. Our feeling was that we wanted to give the audience a different experience. Bumblebee’s designed to be a more intimate movie. There’s many fewer Transformers in it. It’s set in 1987, so it actually predates all of Michael’s movies and therefore is not burdened by the history of those, ’cause it predates it. You have a certain amount of creative freedom.”
“I think Bumblebee is an incredibly loved character. You pick (director) Travis Knight for a very specific reason. His movies are pretty extraordinary, Kubo and the Two Strings in particular. What we’re trying to do is deliver, a love story may be too strong of a term, but it is a coming of age for Bumblebee and our lead character, Hailee Steinfeld. The two of them, their job in the movie is to support each other to get to the place where they both fully realize who they are in that moment. It’s a very different kind of story. That plot is there, but it’s very muted, relative to the larger Transformers movies.”
When inquired about the Box Office situation on Transformers: The Last Knight and the possibility of Transformers 6, the producer had this to say:
“Yeah, I think so. I do. Look, it was a great run. I think going forward, we learned some lessons and I think we need to change it up. I think Michael (Bay, director of all five Transformers films) would be the first one to say that. It’s one of the reasons why we were trying to bring in the Arthurian myth, in fact, in (The Last Knight), to create that different sense of what that movie’s about. I think we were successful in that way, but obviously not in the box office.”

As a friend of mine said after watching it for the first time it just does not follow basic logic!

All right, how about this? Cliffjumper is stationed in the Soviet Union when he learns about what's going on at Chernobyl. He breaks in and steals something, accidentally causing the meltdown, and calls Bumblebee with the standard "I discovered something… can't discuss it over comms… we have to meet…" message, but Laserbeak is on his trail and catches up to him in northern California, blasting him dead or unconscious, and he ends up in the machine shop of a local high school. Enter Hailee, who realizes he isn't an ordinary car, enter Bumblebee, tracking his friend, enter Soundwave's other minions, with orders to recapture the stolen tech at any cost…

The plot clearly points in the direction of the kiss player toys …
… I'm not being serious of course. I honestly think that this film will be only about a girl, finding herself, growing up & an Autobot scout, dealing with having to be in disguise for long periods of time, because he's on a long term mission. Maybe he's hungry for energon, who knows.
Though, I think it'd be awesome if we saw the classic alt modes of the original seekers (not from ROTF – I mean Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker). They could even have their wacky toy colors, if they were a part of an airshow …

I'd be down for a character-oriented movie, rather than a plot-oriented movie, but if it's going to be mostly Strong Female Lead Deals With Totally Embarrassing Teenage Drama, incidentally while having gained a car sidekick, then it's going to suck.
My main reservation is that this will be a Herbie-esque human movie, not a Transformers movie. There's so much potential with Bumblebee as a character, but I'm having some doubts about how much he'll even be a part of his own movie.

There's a much better possibility: the Chernobyl meltdown also happened in 1986, and there's already an established Transformers connection there. I wonder if the plot might involve a piece of tech the Soviets salvaged from the Ark, an attempt to steal it resulted in the meltdown, and it ended up being hidden in northern California where it falls to Bumblebee to find it?

I truly hope that's sarcasm.

While Bumblebee has his fans I do wonder if there isn't a limit. Yes there are times when Bumblebee toys have sold rather well but I think most of us can remember the times when there were just hives of Bumblebee toys on the shelves in some stores. Plus some people just hate the character so would the people who hate movie Bumblebee and who are sick of Bumblebee having to be the star on Robots in Disguise go watch a Bumblebee movie even if it ends up as a really good movie?
Some times places just don't know when to stop pushing a character and they can go from something people loved to something people are sick of. Wolverine was wildly popular but then Marvel took it too far and we ended up with shows like Wolverine and the X-Men. Over on the GI Joe side fans got sick of Snake Eyes because there was always some character that couldn't get a figure because we had to have version 57 of Snake Eyes when most people already owned a perfectly good representation of Snake Eyes. So this push of Bumblebee could very well backfire when Paramount really needs to turn things around from the current box office trajectory.

It just makes me so happy to come here and finally see the backlash these Bay movies always deserved.

Well shit, I can't argue with that.

The 86 movie has more awesome in 1 cell of animation than all the bay films combined. If all you like is Bayformers, its debatable you're even a tf fan lol
Caminus Prime
At least fox was willing to get rid of him in Logan and pass the fame reign to other mutants related to the liscence. Not that any of it would matter anymore since this isn't FOX, these kinds of movies and paramount clearly don't belong in this day and age of good quality movies, I just hope the box office/critics can put em both down for good.

Why don't they do a hard reboot with the BB movie? Get Optimus, Jazz, Prowl and Trailbreaker in the lineups. Call it The Transformers. Megatron, Soundwave and Starscream with a small drone army are the decepticons in this film. Cut away the 1000 parts design and simplify the aesthetic. I don't want blocky G1, but TF Prime design is something I won't mind.

It was basically a big toy advert for the new toys though.
