Hasbro recently reissued Predaking in the 2013 Platinum Edition toy line. If you’ve missed out on the previous releases, is this one on your radar? Will we see more from the Welcome to Transformers 2010 line? Sound off in the discussion thread linked below!

It's in stock. Definitely a warehouse find. There are no new G1 reissues. Nothing to see here folks.

Honestly, I can tell you that getting CW Computron for some reason was more exciting to me than when I finally completed the G1 version, and I gawk at my CHUG shelves much more often than I did at my G1 shelves before I sold them all. When it comes down to it, to me it's about getting the characters I loved and the repaints both pre-TF and international that I lusted after. So as long as I can do that with CHUG or MP, which I most assuredly can with what molds are out so far barring a few essential repaints that have been glossed over, then there is no real reason for me to go vintage anymore unless I want to experience the joys of GPS.
GizmoTron
I love the look of old vintage G1, especially the old packaging, there is nothing like it.
The thing I mean most about Masterpiece is looking at it from the POV of current collectors who want the Transformers they had as a kid, but more just they want the characters they remember and not necessarily the old toy. I think with Masterpiece now looking like the characters you love just walked out of the TV and onto your shelf, the old G1 toy just loses a little bit of appeal to some people. Different collectors and different tastes, but with MPs selling big right now by offering G1 nostalgia, TakaraTomy probably decided to focus on that crowd instead of investing more money into Encores and reissues.

As cool as a shelf of Masterpiece toys is, there's something magical about a shelf of vintage toys. I'm working on a shelf of Combiner box set to stay MIB on display. They might take up a lot of space, but they look great all together, even if a few are KO reproductions and others are Encores.
I'd play with a new Predaking, but a vintage one would be a display piece.

No GPS problems on my reissue Predaking, but it may be too soon to tell.
Fair point. Even for people who grew up with it, G1 may seem dated now, so it may not necessarily be an age/generational thing. Myself, I'm kind of going the other way. I love having G1, Generations, and MP versions of the same character.
Yeah, I just think collecting G1/G1 reissues has become a niche thing. A lot of collectors feel they get more nostalgia bang for their buck with MP or Generations.

I have to double check mine at home, but I'm pretty sure it's just black plastic painted gold.

I think Encore ended because we've reached a point where Takara has exhausted all of the readily available molds for reissue, sometimes more than once. The stuff people are clamoring for the most for a reissue are probably either unavailable or too expensive to reverse engineer the molds.
Plus now that the G1 crowd is a bit older, there seems to be a new found appreciation for having the original vintage piece over a new reissue, even if that vintage toy is less than 100% or played with. I know I feel that way for sure.
And of course there's the MP thing. Would I really buy a reissue of something like Wheeljack or Sunstreaker anymore when near perfect MP replacements exists?
Even if any did have a GPS problem, they came out only a few years back, it may still be too soon to tell.

I'm looking to grab one. I haven't heard anyone complain about GPS on theirs before this thread.
Maz
That's incorrect, there have been quite a few blue Fairlady Zs found in GiG packaging.
Never seen a legitimate boxed Hasbro Transformers blue Bluestreak myself either.
All the best

Can anyone confirm that their Platinum edition Predaking has suffered from GPS?
If so, it might be safe to assume that this might apply to this new release as well.
Smokescreen38
Thanks!! I thought I had heard this a long time ago but I wasn't sure.
Your expertise is greatly appreciated, sir!
Nevermore
"Blue Bluestreak in a Transformers box" is an urban myth that has basically been debunked years ago. No genuine specimen has ever surfaced and stood the test of scrutiny.
The only blue version (with a silver hood) officially released was the pre-Transformers Diaclone version by Takara. Even the Italian "Trasformer" version by GiG was only available in Hasbro's all-silver color scheme.
Smokescreen38
Very true, along with the magenta Hot Rod, the alternate Broadside, etc.
…and I was just kidding around in saying that you guys were "wrong" about a blue Bluestreak reissue. Just trying (and failing per usual) to be hilarious.
03Mach1
Not sure, you'd have to ask @Maz or @Nevermore or someone with more info then myself. But I am sure that a blue Bluestreak was shown in several of the original G1 US catalog inserts.
Smokescreen38
Well then you're both wrong because that's technically not "Bluestreak," therefore it couldn't be "reissued!"
There were always rumors of a blue-Bluestreak in a Transformers box…but has one ever surfaced?

^ I think he's talking about Diaclone BLUE Bluestreak.

I agree that Unicron would benefit massively from the progress in Transformers engineering that we've seen over the past 13-14 years since he came out…but "terrible???" Well, ok but you're going to find TONs of people who disagree with you on that one.
IMO, it's an excellent representation of where engineering and design were at that time which makes his flaws forgivable and makes it even more interesting from a nostalgia standpoint….and honestly, it's the best Unicron toy the world has ever seen.

I wish they'd do something interesting with their reissues. Would've loved to see Takara ape MMC and do a Nero Rex repaint.

I have the 10' version and the bbts version a few yrs later but just not buying a 3rd version.
