Comic Crusaders has put up the full five-page preview for IDW Publishing’s Revolutionaries #5, due for release on June 14. The revelations concerning the 2006 Hearts of Steel miniseries’s connections to the main IDW continuity continue via retro flashbacks done by guest artist Guido Guidi, as Shockwave’s ties to the book’s events start to come to light. Meanwhile, in the present, the Revolutionaries are about to go up against the current Cobra Commander! Check out the pages for yourself after the break.

Different continuities. It's the same with G1 cartoon and the current TF comics.
BB Shockwave
Huh. Certainly wasn't that way in the older comics where as I recall, he was car salesman turned terrorist.
Danny-Boy
The Bumblebee looking dude is called Centurion. And yes, as @Thelonicon pointed out, Commander is a title bestowed upon whoever is leading Cobra at the time. Cobra Commander – IDW Hasbro Wiki
Thelonicon
From my understanding of the IDW Joe books, Cobra is actually a centuries old secret society, so the leadership has changed hands many times.
BB Shockwave
That guy will be Bugbyte, most likely. But seriously, what the hell is up with this Paoli guy being a \"former Cobra Commander\"? I thought CC was a guy, not an occupation. I wish I wouldn\'t need to know obscure GI Joe lore to understand this comic.
Spontificus
Okay, that's nice.
Danny-Boy
I asked John about this on Twitter and he compared it to G2/Regeneration One following the Marvel comic. The X-Files comic basically takes place in a tangent universal stream from the main IDW universe.
Spontificus
I was kind of hoping that the Hearts of Steel stuff was going to be some dimension hopping shenanigans because there is so much that needs to be explained or outright changed for this to work.
While if it was just the HoS and Infestation issues, it would fit, but since the X-Files crossover was stated to be in the HoS universe with modern day Optimus and Bumblebee that remembered being the train versions of themselves, it has some continuity snags. I usually have faith in John Barber to sort out continuity messes, but this seems like it will create some.
Danny-Boy
It's not an emblem. That IS the Talisman.
fishpop
That emblem behind Domitus/HOS OP looks like the symbol that was in that crypt those guys were investigating in a previous issue.

Well Shockwave put those seeds on those planets becusce the 13 Prime lived there and Shockwave has never been trusted by Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave becusce he keeps things to himself. Most of those fake bots and cons are dead with probably only two remaining and only one of them remembers who he was so it fits like the G.I. Joe comic happen after the TFs live Earth.
Coffee
While the reason he never spoke about the ores was because the ores were the seeds of his own master plan, I guess it can be explained that Shockwave never thought to mention this shit because he's Shockwave. But man it feels like if Shockwave was able to find the colonies that long ago, then it feels strange that only now have they been discovered by the Cybertronians.
And nope, HoS still doesn't fit because you have way to many named characters making appearances they shouldn't be there for, and I seriously can't believe they all decided to take the names of the character they happen to look and act exactly like.
Digilaut
I think of all the possible ideas to make it 'work', having the bots be completely different people and brainwashing them is probably one of the worst. Noooot feeling it at all :-/
Guido's retro art is glorious though!

Shockwave never told anybody about the energon seeds he planted across the universe and it's not like he wasn't keeping secrets before going crazy. How doe HoS not fit in IDW main universe? it wasn't like there was much evidence of TF being on Earth in those comics and anything that was probably covered up or just forgotten over time. Actually yes Cthulu also exists in the main IDW comics, becusce those Infestation comics are canon; how Kup ended up in the dead universe and fake Bots and Cons fighting the Old Ones and since the Revolution event we know the G.I. Joe Infestation comics also took place in the main TF universe just at different time periods.
Lionheart
HA. Shockwave doesn't tell anyone shit. It's how he got away with the whole ore thing in the first place. Hell, Shockwave also happened to know about locations primes had formerly visited. Shockwave knows too much and says too little.
Coffee
Oh you're kidding. Are you telling me the Hearts of Steel Universe is the regular IDW universe, except all the Autobots and Decepticons were just tricked into thinking they were the incarnations of the IDW bots and cons, all because Shockwave said, 'Eh, why not'?
Nope, sorry, this doesn't work at all. There's no way Shockwave wouldn't have told somebody about the colonies had he already known about them, and there's no way Hearts of Steel can fit into IDW's main universe. Does this mean Cthulu also exists in the main IDW comics as well? Jeez.
bigfootRULES
well Shockwave is a bastard. nuff said.
DOTM Bumblebee
So the Hearts of Steel Autobots are just Eukarian lookalikes of Optimus, Bumblebee, and the rest? Gotta be honest, not sure how I feel about that… I really did like Hearts of Steel being its own universe. That said, I suppose I am interested in why Shockwave would want to fool them into thinking they're the classic Autobot characters.
Danny-Boy
Huh. Yeah, looking back, it is weird how many little details Hearts of Steel Optimus's design swipes from Big Convoy when they turn into different things. Guess that must've been intentional on Guidi's part.
optimusmegas
that and his entire robot body looks just like big convoy….
