That's fair enough, but I know some people could have come up with the interpretation that I did, so I can see some people getting confused by the presence of that line because of it.
Jalaguy
Hmm? Starscream was sassing her about her previous failure to find Swindle. They weren't saying that they were still looking for him.
WereDragon EX
Maybe so, but that comment seems superfluous at this point since Swindle is obviously accounted for in this issue.
NanakoPreame
well, it's not like it really matters since the books getting canned.
Saito Satoru
She adds characters from Prime, yes. But it's not like she replaces the characters or anything. She finds a place for them in the IDW mythos, then inserts them in there. Airachnid was never a beastformer nor a mnemosurgeon in Prime, but she is both here. I'd say Scott is working the IDWverse to here favor.
kaijuguy19
I don't get that because she's really adapting those elements into the IDW universe like how she made Airachnid a memesurgeon which the profession was established long ago so she's done her research on IDW and this is the same writer who grew up with Beast Wars and added elements from it into IDW as well.
GaryTheNeutral
Is it just me or does Mairghread Scott only know more about the Aligned Continuity than she does with IDW? Because this feels more like the Prime/RiD cartoons…
YoungPrime
I'm not a real BW, Animated or TF Prime fan but there are standouts which is why I have both Animated BlackArachnia and the recent Takara version and would've bought TF Prime's Arachnid if it didn't look like crap. But I wouldn't be opposed to a Generations version done right and that Panel showing Arachnid being confronted has Blackarachnia and another "Eukarian" (with two pairs of regular arms) that I wouldn't mind having as well.
Brave Magnus
Ooh! I am liking this a lot! Glad to see her in the comics! And she looks sexy as always! So does BlackArachnia!
General Tekno
Also, it's not retconning if you're simply adding rather than rewriting. And given the aforementioned mnemosurgery victims, it clearly wasn't a retcon but rather was seeded early on in a "throwaway if the series gets cancelled before getting here" way.
And if introducing a new character is a retcon then WOW Budiansky sure was retconning every damn issue of Marvel US. Hell, whenever I meet someone in real life who was at an event I was at without my knowledge, fate sure is retconning reality to insert this new person I've never before encountered into the timestream.
Hyoumaru
Is anybody else feeling a bit tired of Starscream flipflopping between classic Starscream and woe-is-me-I-wish-I-could-be-better-but-I\'m-resigned-to-failure Starscream? Yeah you could argue they\'re not so different but it just feels like they can\'t decide on an overall tone or agenda for him.
spiritprime
Ms. Scott is writing this. She was a writer in the TFP series. She practically wrote the best episodes in the show (Stronger Faster, Hurt, Chain of Command). You should expect her to retcon a few of them. She already added Knock Out (and the Breakdown lookalike as his Conjunx Endura) as a native to Velocitron.
YoungPrime
Ah, foreshadowing…. Think I'll go back and read that issue again before reading this one. Kudos to Scott for stepping her game up.
YoungPrime
He's a "ghost". Similar to what Starscream was to Octane and Scourge in 2 of the G1 Season 3 episodes.
But with that solo film coming out next year I'm sure they'll be forced to really resurrect him shortly….
Heliblade
Lol I was expecting some big reveal shot, but then the panel just shows her casually hanging around like \"oh hey, sup\".
Also I\'m willing to bet money she\'s \"secretly\" a serial killer.
fishpop
Airachnid!? ?
Okay, then.
EDIT: AND SHE'S A MNEMOSURGEON!!? As if she wasn't terrifying enough!
Jalaguy
She was doing that way back at the start of the series, before Swindle was found. A series of dead Decepticons with mnemosurgery scars was something that came up in issue #1, and now we know who was behind it.
WereDragon EX
Why would Starscream have Airachnid probe the minds of the Combaticons for the location of Swindle's body? Shouldn't it have been right there with the other Combaticons when Bruticus separated?
RazorclawX
If you were intending any sort of respect in the first place you wouldn't have gotten the author wrong.
And that is beside the fact there is nothing wrong with introducing a new character this way.
Escargon
But Scott's writing this, not Barber?
