CNBC with a partnership agreement with the Transformers Franchise has posted a small article discussing the future of the Live Action Movie Franchise.
“If you look at the numbers, international has to be at the forefront,” Paul Dergarabedian (senior media analyst for comScore) said. “Appealing to global audiences is the driving force.”
That’s why this summer a fifth “Transformers” film, “The Last Knight,” will hit theaters.
While several cast members of the “Pirates” franchise have hinted that there could be more films in the future, the studio does not currently have any plans for a sixth installment.
“Transformers,” on the other hand, is slated to release at least four more films after “The Last Knight,” one of which will be a standalone “Bumblebee” movie set for release in 2018.

Yeah my bad – accidentally hit the 5 instead of the 6.

You mean TF6. TF5 is this July. But yeah, BB is probably solo and independent of the current movie numbering. Wouldn't make sense to put a movie that's solely about BB in the movie numbering.
Incepticon
I still don't believe that the solo R2-Bee2 movie will be considered "TF6" the way some people keep asserting, especially if it's set in the 80's or whatever the rumor is. I have a feeling they'll keep the main movies numerically concurrent like the tentpole Star Wars movies, and any solo movies will be considered the TF equivalent of the "A Star Wars Story" stand-alone's like Rogue One, Han Solo, etc.
Shepard Prime
Ugh on that last. When there's so much more Transformers lore to get into still, I really don't want to see them crossing over with GI Joe (especially since they'll probably use the Transformers as a way to reboot the Joes).

Four future movies;

I think the big question is what does Paramount fall back on?
When Marvel had their big fire sale Paramount didn't buy up any superheroes because the studio didn't think that superheroes would be box office gold. Other pop culture things have been purchased up by other studios so it's not like there are a lot hot trendy pop culture things that Paramount can buy up to make movies out of.
So out of what Paramount has left in their stable Transformers is pretty much the only big thing making them money. GI Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, Ghost in the Shell, Monster Trucks, none of their other big films have been burning up the box office. It's really looking like Transformers will be the only Paramount film to have a chance of being in the domestic top 10 for 2017.
With nothing else to fall back on it seems like Paramount would reboot Transformers once they get over their gripping fear of reboots. Hollywood is the sort of place that rather go back to something that used to make money rather than a new original concept franchise with no pop culture name recognition.

I hope they keep making these movies indefinitely, not because they are good or I can even remember the plot two days after seeing one, but because their financial success indirectly supports the great IDW comics that unfortunately don't sell too many copies. Hasbro can easily ignore underwhelming sales from its comics division if TF overall makes a ton of profit.

I'm ok with it for now, depending on the quality of the TF movies.
As for the international route or appeal (if any), that will get old, and might dry up more quickly than Paramount thinks
If Paramount does decide to do consecutive movies (as mentioned) people will wait for the movie to come out on DVD because the "excitement to go to the movies to see a Transformers movie will get old sooner or later"
Some people like to collect "DVD collections" its almost not worth buying the collections anymore, unless there's something attached that's worth while.
I'm the only one in the family that likes TF and I'm ok with it

Same here. I only hear it online as well. Online, it's "cool" to hate the Transformers movies.
People who claim that these are the worst movies ever, clearly have only seen 4 movies. For example, people claim that the acting is crap. While it isn't Oscar worthy, it ain't horrible. Sit through 50 Shades Darker (with your wife) and you will know what I mean.
I could give you at least 100 more examples of movies worse than Transformers. The list would go on and on…
Jetstorm
You know what's funny, I only ever hear this kind of talk online. Well, for the most part. Actually the only people I really hear complaining about them in real life are the stereotypical "loser nerds"… the kind of people that don't really form their own opinions and just go with what seems to be "in".
Raiju
What does "domestic appeal" even mean? Did you miss all the American flags hanging in the background of AOE, or the minute-long scene of Marky Mark chugging a Bud Light (the most American of all beers)? Oh right, because having Asians on screen means exotic and pandering, gotcha.
Shark
It pisses me off that people keep saying "let it die" right when this series is finally getting interesting. Seriously, the first three movies were like "ok, here's a bunch of action, The End." Now we finally get an actual cliffhanger (sort of) at the end of the previous movie, and suddenly y'all are like "STAHP!!!1!!"
Nah, dude. Fuck that.

Excuse me…. I'm Chinese and I don't like that statement. It's almost as if….
Olivus Prime
I understand they've invested, but if push comes to shove, I imagine they'll start from scratch sooner rather than later. Like I said, Paramount is shit out of luck when it comes to big moneymakers outside of Transformers, just like Sony is outside of Spider-Man. Of course, there's always the chance that they would recycle writers' room ideas in a reboot, or make it a proper cinematic universe from the get-go.
Swoop Dogg
There is NO WAY Transformers would get a swift reboot. They just invested a ton of money on the writer's room. They are not going to just toss it aside and start over. If the franchise gets shelved, it will be a long time before another Transformers movie comes along.
Be careful what you guys wish for. Botcon is now gone and has been replaced with the crappy Hascon. I realize FP had its share of problems, but would you rather have Botcon or Hascon? The same same thing goes with the movie franchise. I swear some of you guys are looking forward to a decade of no movies and Hascon just to flip your middle finger at Bay and FP.
Olivus Prime
Regarding reboots, name any other tentpole Hollywood franchises from Paramount and you'll quickly understand why Transformers would probably see a swift reboot if any of the next instalments fail.
Star Trek and Mission: Impossible are their only other moneymaker franchises, and the former is in hot water already.
TFXProtector
Uh…how is this news? We knew there were going to be upwards of 10 films, alternating every year, starting with The Bumblebee Movie, followed by TF 6/7. (Can't really call Bumblebee's movie number 6 since it's more akin to Rogue One than Episode xxx) We've been talking about this for months, now. Heck, the writer's room (or Bay, can't remember which at the moment) mentioned ideas for FOURTEEN stories.
Nemisispath
The designs are OK, but they are just way to uninspired. For the first three, they were just made of tiny miscellaneous bits with pieces of mangled car on top. For AoE and TLK, they look like people wearing a few metal parts and generic armor plates and maybe a couple wheels to remind the viewer they transform into a car.
That said, everyone is entitled to their opinions.
FemmeHighbeam
I\'m ok with this. AOE was refreshingly better than the previous 2 films, and I\'m hoping TLK is even better.
