For our next photoshoot, we’re showcasing another member of the Titans Return series, and this time it’s the master escape artist, Getaway Breakaway!
Breakaway is a moderately disappointing release, let us get that out of the way first. He’s a redeco of Chromedome with a new head, and the large amounts of unbroken white mean some parts of the design, like the arms, seem a tad bland. However, the new head sculpt is well done and the way that the deco is set out means the overall look does resemble the original Breakaway. Plus, the base mold is excellent in terms of poseability, you will not have a problem finding a pose that this one looks good in. He also goes particularly well with Titan Master Overboard, if you have him – but that is a photoshoot for another day.
Overall, not the best that has been released for Titans Return – in fact, he’s the weakest of the first three assortments – but he is not completely without merit. Check out his photoshoot and judge for yourself.

right, but my whole/main point was summed up in that 2nd paragraph: he was just a poor fit for that mold, when there were available characters (Siren/Goshooter even would have had a similar color palette) that would have been a much better fit style-wise ~ i generally don't mind repaints as random characters OR need my Classics figures to "look exactly like his G1 toy." it's just this mold has zero visual connections to the original aside from the face, and they didn't reinforce it with the deco (as you said).
Krok and Quake are the exact opposite to me, while seeming like they'd be awkward fits they managed to work minor miracles (IMHO) with the decos and make them "feel" visually like their original incarnations (especially Quake who's color layout in bot mode is basically spot on)

Other than the color scheme, it's fine that he doesn't look exactly like his G1 toy. Thats the kind of thing that happens when repainting a character from an unrelated toy. Not every character can have their own toy and molds need to be repainted even when the original toy hasn't been repainted. Krok and Quake don't resemble their original toys either. BUT Breakaway should have had more paint on him to make him closer in color scheme at least to G1 Getaway.
I agree. Nightbeat and Siren need new chests and Siren needs a siren. But like Getaway, Krok and Quake, they probably wouldn't get that. Unless Takara remolds Chromedome into Go Shooter and Minerva as much as they did with Kup.

You're missing out man. You should try one or three issues (consensus is that MTMTE or Lost Light recommended. ) .

With a little more paint, which I added to him myself, he's really not a bad figure.

it's also kind of a dull/soft head sculpt in a line that has been full of razor-sharp head designs.

James Roberts/IDW-santioned character assassination aside, it's because, well, look at him.
aside from the head, he has zero correct details to look like the character he is supposed to be. His legs are the wrong way around, his arms are the wrong color, he doesn't have the car cockpit chest, and those missing details result in a much less dynamic color layout then the original had PLUS he's lacking the giant shoulder pads/wings, which is probably his most distinctive visual trait.
Seems like, with relatively minor remolding this base mold would have worked MUCH better for Nightbeat and/or Siren.
T-Hybrid
That was a Walmart exclusive though. Not a mainline release.
Knightsword
There was '07 repaint of Cybertron Hot Shot that was pretty decent.

Bam!!! Agreed

I see thanks! Besides what comics were packed with CWs & Thrilling 30 I don't read or have an interest in the IDW comics (Marvel Comics was the only TF run of comics I cared for) so a lot of IDW stuff just flies over my head.
Beastwarsfan95
Can you really blame him though?
As for the figure itself a think a nice wash and painted eyes would really up the mileage on him.

I don't mind that he reuses the Chromedome mold since not all characters can get their own unique mold, but I don't like how little color he has. If he were to have almost the exact same colors as the original toy, as much as the mold will allow, he would look great and be a worthy purchase. But as he is, he's woefully underpainted and the only Deluxe I'm choosing to pass on. This is the best custom of Breakaway I've seen
I also want the Chromedome mold to be remolded into Nightbeat, Siren, Minerva and Go Shooter, reusing the Nightbeat and Loudmouth heads with new chests for Nightbeat/Minerva and Siren/Go Shooter. Just make sure they are given decent and appropriate color schemes.
SPLIT LIP
Colours and mould choice. See, when I personally look at the figure all I really fixate on is the grey being too light, the yellow being too pale, and there being way too much white. The colour balance is off in a way that makes the head and grey parts look almost over-exposed, and there's just not enough contrast.
Plus the mould is just really mundane for Breakaway. The lack of big ol' shoulderpads and as I mentioned the poor colour palette, combined with poor colour placement (the arms being entirely white with no blue really hurts the figure's look) just doesn't evoke the original or look very pleasing. The face especially looks so bland without different coloured eyes or properly contrasting colours. I personally feel the Rodimus mould would've looked better if painted properly. It's just a bit more dynamic and befitting the head design.

He betrayed Rodimus,Megatron, Drift, Nightbeat, and friends; marooning them and taking over the Lost Light. He's a Bitch in IDW
Deductor
So glad Toyhax put out a Siren set for this epic Bleh

Breakaway was my favorite DX in the wave. Yes just a re-color with new faceplate Titan Master, but still like him more than the others.
Fallout
what happened to the last one? did he… getaway?
T-Hybrid
What you call disappointing I call the first mainstream release of a Getaway since the original.
My first Transformer. Glad he's back!
