JoBlo has a nice summary of John Turturro’s sit down with Stephen Colbert at the Montclair Film Festival where he discussed his projects past, present and future. A brief touch on the Transformers franchise was in there:
Turturro then went on to talk about several milestones in his career, which included anecdotes about working with Woody Allen, Spike Lee, the Coen brothers, Robert De Niro, and Michael Bay on the TRANSFORMERS films. When asked to elaborate on his experience while working with Bay on the man vs. machines toys-to-action series, Turturro stated, “When you ask him [Bay] a question (about your character) he goes, ‘When you see the movie, you’ll understand.’” Heh. That doesn’t seem like much to go on to me, but wait, there’s more.
Feeling the need to give Colbert some more insight, Turturro continued, “I never used to do these big, giant films because there used to be medium-sized films,” he said. “But now there are no medium-sized films. There are small films or giant films. Thank god for television.”
Head on over to JoBlo to read the full summary, and discuss on the 2005 Boards!

That's a good point. I suppose when you get to the core of it budget is a good indicator what the scale of the movie is.

Didn't he just lament the confusing mess of his character in TF, while also saying he'd prefer NOT to be in big movies? I guess you were referring to his other comments!
I read his TF comment as the same stupid remark Halle Berry made about playing Storm! Probably more polite, though. And clearly TF fans are more forgiving than X-men fans?

"One man, alone, betrayed by the country he loves!"
Can't wait to see him once again.

More exciting than merlin?

Simmons coming back is easily the most exciting piece of news for this whole film. He's so fun and charrismatic.

I kind of hated John in the first film as his character grated, but when he showed up in the second and third films and had a few funnier moments (he was pretty all business in TF1) to help soften him and make him more likable it was better. I'm not sure I get why his character is integral at all to the films, but again if he's just there to have fun, make some movie money and be a call back to TF1 then who cares.

Beauty and the Beast had a budget of $160 million, which to me means it's definitely in the "big-budget" movie class. Just my opinion as well, but I think when Turturro is speaking of "medium-sized" films, he's talking about character-driven movies that have a budget of about $20-50 million. No Country For Old Men, for example.

Really? The film was seemingly filmed (mostly) in a studio and while there was a heavy use of CGI the scale of the film wasn't big unlike Transformers which frequently shuts down streets for filming in several locations. Beauty and the Beast took place in only 3 locations, a small village, a woods that we saw barely anything of and an admittedly large castle that only ironically showcased a few small rooms. In comparison the list of on-location sites that The Last Knight filmed at is too long for me to be bothered to type up but, it shows the scope of the film and how it could be seen as the definition of what a big film is. But this is all an opinion.

"When you see the movie, you’ll understand." …that characterization in these movies is an afterthought.
Ephland
Beauty and the Beast is definitely not a "medium-sized" film.

I'm still amazed we're getting a Jesus Quintana film. A purple pedo bowling god has got to be the unlikeliest lead character in a film in possibly forever. Wonder if The Dude will cameo at all…
Anyway, John T is a class act, worth a watch in just about anything.

This is really what it's come down.

Me too
Shizuka
And maybe Beauty and the Beast. The film had two small locations but a large number of extras and heavy use of CGI.
Anyway, it's interesting how he brought up television because in the past there were TV actors/actresses and film actors and film actors/actress and film stars wouldn't been seen doing TV but now you see film stars flocking to TV because it's the new big thing. At least Turturro did TV before acting in TV was "cool". Funnily enough both him and Stanley Tucci were in Monk.

I thought this guy bugged the hell out of me, but after I saw him in other things, I realised it was just his character in these movies that bugs the hell out of me.

I'm almost positive that it's actually someone's fan art. I recognize it from Instagram.

Ok so I'm just going to put this here as I am not starting a new thread for it an it's a sector 7 scene anyhow, my memory is sketchy if megatron actually clears this up or anything…..but just sat down and tf07 is on tv SWEEET! I've sat down at the bit where they all arrive at Hoover dam and are introduced to NBE1…..however it's the head of sector 7 who says "we think it was earths gravitational field that screwed up his telemetry and made him crash"
So as for the writers room tying things together, it could just as well have been a space battle in the past above earths atmosphere that caused megatron to crash land, I think there's going to be so many hidden windows of opportunity like this in all of the films that the writers will exploit
Also quick British culture lesson….the whole deal with knights etc is there's also associated titles like mbe which means "member of the British empire " what if even as far back as then they were planning for the knight theme and megatrons denomination as NBE could be interpreted as "Not a member of the British empire " and the acronym had dual meaning…after all this new film centres around British mythology, which is also curious as lockdown also had a British accent just saying

Also, is that a new official poster? Or have I just not seen it yet?
Either way, it sucks.
