Once again, we could find a Preview for IDW Transformers comics on ITunes. This time we have a 3-page Preview for IDW Lost Light #5.
The adventure in the Functionist alternate universe grows even more exciting.
“It’s TEAM RODIMUS versus a universe gone wrong! An alternate Cybertron is being torn apart as the malevolent Functionist Council implement a plan that’s been millions of years in the making. But with victory within their reach, they find themselves up against someone who really shouldn’t exist: MEGATRON”.
Lost Light #5 Expected Release: May 10, 2017.
You can check the images after the jump. Thanks to fellow 2005 Boards member Nocturne for sharing the preview in our forums, and adding and extra bonus panel shared by James Roberts.

Well. I like where this story is going, and I like the art. It's very clear and not overly crowded. When I'm reading a comic it's essential to me that understanding the story is at least not hindered by the art. The art should never be confusing. Yet this is not as easy as it seems. JL managed that.
Also, let's remember JL is an actual person who is trying to do his job while we make comments.

Don't worry about it, you didnt put a comma there.

Finally, finally main universe Rung has shown up! And I first felt bad that he appears only on a 1/3 page shared by the Functionis plot until the actual first page of the comic was revealed/leaked too. So thanks for that. I'm really more interested in what's going on in Necroworld than about on Functionist Cybertron and how (and who among) Team Rodimus is going back.
Nocturne
PFFT no kidding XD
To be fair, though. Nightbeat is the one who approached Rung to comfort him, but it doesn't help that Nightbeat(who already is pretty tactless) is on some sort of emotion blocking drug. Let's see how this works out!
rlmiddleton
Geez, going to Nightbeat for advice. I mean I know he's a problem solver but he's…well, he's seemed pretty self-absorbed previously.
Nocturne
So… The issue is called Modes of Production… I wonder if that's significant to Rung's alt-mode, at all.
SPLIT LIP
I dig the irony of the Functionists council, with a nice callback to what the Functionists called the main universe Rung. F-U Rung, more like Fuck-You Rung. (As in he's saying Eff You to them and… Uh, *cough*)
Dramatic Spoon
This looks like it will be interesting.

It's quite blurry but another page has surfaced. Credit to Serika_Izumi on Twitter for finding it.
Ah yes. Here come those feels.
WilyMech
To paraphrase Slade from Teen Titans "It is always the quiet ones." I think F U Rung is far more dangerous.
Optimax Prime
huh, F-U Rung is a badass
fishpop
Gonna need a Burn Heal for that one.
Nice one Rung!

And by the time that happened on panel for the first time (to the Memory Sticks in #35) it had already happened at least twice. The atmosphere of Functionist Cybertronian is probably claustrophobic and full of street-level terror, but the difference between autocratic and anarchic dystopia is that cleanness, that obligation to be out walking around. This universe is more like Bladerunner than Mad Max. If it's so much more colorful than Bladerunner, that's just Joanna Lafuente's style. Not to mention your main characters in this scene are colored emergency-vehicle red, traffic cone orange, and bright blue and purple.

All Hail the Useless Ones.
Thundershot
The irony is that I don't read books.
Comics have to have a good story, dialogue, and art. The art isn't bad by any means. It does what it needs to do to craft the story. I agree it's not as pretty as Milne's, but it's not offensive. Hopefully when Milne is done with the Rom crossover, he'll be back at least in rotation.
Nocturne
Oh nonono! The Rung with Ratchet, Rodimus and friends is the other universe's Rung, who you correctly say has been their captive for ages.
The one talking with Nightbeat is OUR Rung. The comic is just trying to draw a parallel between the two since Other!Rung finally knows his function, while our Rung is struggling with his own identity and purpose.
BB Shockwave
Okay hooooold on a second… So this was OUR Rung??? As in the main Universe MTMTE Rung? But… we have seen this universe before, and they already held Rung captive for eons. I thought this was their universe's version of Rung!
Murasame
Yeah, next Wednesday is gonna be good!

I was thinking Rung would be a wildcard key fragment but well … "all hail the useless ones" still rock.
So it's a pity not to have a combiner key from the 12 and not to make some collectable McDonald toys. But are they always aware of this (knowing themselves as useless but lying all along)? Can they combine at all? Who/what opened Vector Sigma if the drill is a fake?
