We have something cool for you on this Sunday. While not breaking or recent news, Artist James Raiz shared a video with his work on his highly detailed Unicron art.
Very great piece of talent, don’t miss the video and share your opinions at the 2005 boards after the jump.

Lol I agree in all honesty but this seems like the exact opposite to the designer of the current range of lack of finer detailed MPs
snavej
Hand animate THAT, South Korea!
Big Bronze Rim
Agreed, please don't. It looks fine in the artwork, not so much on my MP figures.

Utterly magnificent.
Chiller
No, no, no, please don't

Someone should tell the current Takara Masterpiece designer that is how you put panel lines on a figure

I wonder what an alternate mode with that level of detailing would look l…
Oh wait.
Very convincing disguise.

Meh. Opinions and assholes.
Personally, I think the detailing works for some of the bots -the big ones- otherwise I do tend to agree that he should tone it down a bit.
Still, he's a phenomenal talent. I don't think that his style worked on MTMTE, but I'd love to see him get a book again.

He seems like a nice friendly dude at cons

I guess in his interpretation of Cybertronians, no. Even their faces have little bolts/rivets, but those aren't distractingly prominent. Then again this could just be his work on art prints. His linework for "Little Victories" in MTMTE is a less busy, iirc.

Okay, there's "detailed artwork", and then there's giving robots leprosy.
Seriously, while I admire the work that went into this, this is waaaaaaaay to detailed. Are there no flat surfaces on these robots?

What's sad is that when Raiz was working on MTMTE a few years back there was so many complaints about this 'new guy' on the book. A real shame as he's not only been working on TF books since Dreamwave but had also done a huge amount of covers for IDW too.
I love his work and would love to see more of it!

And back then I was wondering why the style of that issue was so familiar… James Raiz did art for the first issues of Dreamwave's Armada series!
It was weird realizing how things sort of came full circle with my TF comics.
High five, mister! Don did the rest of the art of that Armada comic. Say what you will about Dreamwave as a corporation or the quality of their plots, but I think their adaptation of Armada was far better than that anime and it was my gateway drug into the entire TF hobby.

I haven't seen Transformers artwork this good since Don Figueroa and I am a huge fan of that man's work. Ironically my avatar is Don's drawing of Unicron. Look's like James Raiz just earned himself a new fan.
Mr JackatooTM
When this guy can draw fucking Unicron in detail flawlessly and I can't even draw Kirby correctly.
robh
good grief

Yeah I wished that series went somewhere. I still have issue stored someplace. The only thing I wish was that some of the old Dreamwave series would go digital, because many of them, even outside of TFs are difficult to track down. I thought IDW had acquired the publishing rights to some of the old DW stuff but I guess not. I'm pretty certain they did put out a couple of trades of Armada and Energon some years back. Because Riaz worked on Armada.
