2005 boards user MachineHeart88 has shared a very nice in-hand video showing the highly expected MP-36 Megatron.
While there are no comments on the video, we have a good close up of all the extra parts and bonus of the figure. In the end, we see some of the articulation in the figure that has got very nice ratchets.
After watching the video, don’t forget to click on the bar and share your opinions at the 2005 boards.
2003 Megatron
I'm amazed at the engineering that went into this one. I do think the transformation is a bit complex. But I feel once you know how and where everything goes, it won't be so bad. I'm sure after maybe a few more careful transformations. The panels will line up better. The gun mode looks good. And like the silencer and all that. I still think it's a bummer the barrel will scratch up from putting the silencer on and off. That's really my only complaint about this one. And I wished that at least one the barrel that they would have done that in molded plastic like the original g1 toy Megatron.
My other nitpick is I'm not sure that his barrel in bit mode tabs into place. To where it will rotate or swivel on its own at the slightest touch when trying to pose him. And I plan on getting 2 of these. But I'm now think of getting a 3rd and paint his orange like the toy gun with a set of reprolables set, Which I'm sure they will make. A sticker sheet like the g1 toy. With red stickers for his inner legs or I may paint them myself. I had Megatron as a toy back in 84 and another 85. I loved having it. This is gonna be all nostalgia for me.

Omg! Can't wait!

Wow! That last video is great
I'm very impressed by this figure.

Screw the panel lines and how he looks from the back (which isn't even that bad, not like he's hollow or anything…), I'm buying a screen accurate transforming robot toy that turns into a gun, not a model gun, not a real gun or a robot statue. The last Megatron I'll ever need, so, I'm good. None of the 3P do it for me as far as truly capturing the Megatron I care about and the closest one IMO is Apollyon, which aside from the face captures the G1 toy essence. And for transformation… Damn. Apollyon is nice, I've transformed him many times with no broken parts or looseness, just slowly and not ham handed. This will take a while, but should be fun. Appy goes either into storage or sold for whatever I can get for him, which I've had him for years, so even if I don't get much, meh, he's served his purpose quite dutifully and I wrote his money off long ago anyway.
Come on release time, I haven't had a new MP since Shockwave…

Wow, that's some transformation. Whew.

Looking close at tco's pics, the paint is actually like a animation accurate grey with a semi-gloss finish. Looks pretty good. I didn't notice at 1st, I think it will be more noticeable in person. It's hard to see in pics(especially the official stock ones).
I think a toy-color version in metallic is inevitable but right now I love that cartoon direction Takara is going in.

MP-36 is glorious!
I have X-TB Apollyon (2nd version) and have no real issues with it aside from the right shoulder ball joint being not quite strong enough to hold up his fusion cannon (and perhaps the halves of his waist not clipping together tightly enough). Other than that, he's a pretty nice figure and has a reasonably good likeness to the character. I still think he's a good match opposite MP-10's hybrid styling of toon, toy, and slightly exaggerated super-heroic proportions that Shogo Hasui began, before Takara decided to go full on toon accuracy with the latest round of MP releases.
MP-36 is definitely the spitting image of Sunbow toon Megatron, like if he had just stepped right off the screen and cackling with Frank Welker's voice. There's room in my collection for both figures though.
I intend to display Apollyon locked in eternal battle with Takara MP-10 Convoy on a separate shelf, while my two Hasbro Masterpiece Optimus Primes (I prefer the lighter and more vibrant colors on him compared to the darker TT MP-10 version) will be displayed in my main MP Autobots shelf. Similarly, my two MP-36's will be displayed in my main MP Decepticons shelf.

That's cool, I just don't understand why so many people feel the need to trash another figure just because it's not for them. I can still appreciate the other versions of Megatron and think there are things the 3P offerings did better than Takara. I just think the best version of Megatron overall happens to come from Takara.

For the record I wasn't pointing a finger at you, it doesn't matter who originally mentioned 3rd parties, the fact is a lot of people can't discuss them civilly, especially in a thread like this, so better to just not talk about them. Fair play to you for justifying yourself though. On tfw2005 they're such a sore spot that it's really better to keep discussion of them to their own threads.
I agree that this is just an incredible figure. I'm blown away just by a little video and now some in-hand photos. Others have said it but I'll echo it, I think this release will set a new standard for the MP line. I do look forward to some well-placed diecast, too – nothing wrong with that!

i apologize, i was confused. I thought this was a discussion forum but I guess it must be a place where everyone just gets mad and yells at each other. I was trying to actually respond to a comment that Johntimus Prime but my comments included points that included third party as well and didn't just discuss the pictures that were posted. I realize now that it's cardinal sin to discuss third party away from the third party talk forums, even if I am discussing the positive points of Takara compared to those third parties. It would be nice to actually be able to have nice and civil discussions about transforming robots like the various transformers Facebook groups, but I guess that's not what this message board is about.
To the topic at hand-This looks like an awesome MP. I love that this figure captures that G1 aesthetic so well. I think this is as close to the cartoon as we are ever going to get. Love that it's not just matte grey and that the paint is slightly metallic. The accessories really capture the character and it's great that they included so many. I will be excited to finally see the transformation and get this guy in hand.

From looking at the pics it looks like there is a lot more finger articulation than MP-10. There looks to be knuckle joints on all fingers but it looks like the 3 lesser fingers could be joined…

Excerpt from the thread Masterpiece Megatron V2.0 is happening in 2017!
I hope this is true!

They also hollowed out the real hammer parts on his thighs and the part that ends up on his upper-centre back. Not big deals but a bit pants and the first time we've seen this in an MP development I think (oh nooooo they're cheaping out the MP line gonna look like hollow CHUGs in a year or two!!!)
Seth Sunthay
Yes, and for example, they changed the screws of the sides of the chest.
IgTerminals
Like the hammer halves on the shoulders being filled in on the prototype, but hollow on the production version?
Not a complaint, by the way. Just an observation.
