Vangelus
that is very similar to the story of me and the original dragonzord, it was the first time I truly was hunting for a toy & felt momentous victory upon finding it

I actually also have a strong memory attached to inferno. When I was a kid I got pnuemonia and was in the hospital for over a week. I remember watching some episodes of g1 they had in hand and asking my parents for an inferno. My dad showed up the next day with energon inferno in hand. To this day that's one of my favorite figures.

In regards to the talk about Having powerful memories attached to a toy, I have super strong memories for Energon Inferno for a couple of reasons, those being, it\'s one of only like 3 toys I still have from when I was a kid and it was the first toy I ever hunted for. To make a long story short, Skyblast was my first transformer and I got him before seeing the show at all and after that I made a point of checking out the show, because of obvious reasons, and after watching it and seeing Inferno I immediately decided I needed to have him because I was way into fire tucks at the time and I have a lot of memories of going to tons of stores and tearing apart the toy sections with my mom in order to find him and when we did and she bought it for me it was one of the first time I ever really succeeded in doing something pretty much completely out of my own will and I will always remember that time as one of the best childhood bonding experiences I had with my mom.

I definitely have a thing with associations with one thing. A game, not a toy. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Played it during the aftermath of my parents divorce, and a bad period of my own depression. It's the only Bethesda RPG I just cannot get myself to replay. I've tried a few times, but the game just brings up such shitty memories

I blame spotty Comcast internet. Or something. Surely I didn't space out. I'd never do something like that. Ever.

Just listened to this yesterday – thanks for making a very considered response to my question, and for getting to it relatively quickly! In answer to Vangelus's query about whether <5 episodes of sleep paralysis constitutes a problem – I would say no, <5 episodes in a lifetime (i.e. rare) would be within normal ranges. So you're safe, in that sense!
I loved the moment when (heavy paraphrasing here):
Aaron: Hang on, I have a character that NO ONE will have ever thought about…. BEAST WARS DINOBOT!!
(Pause)
Vangelus: Er, TJ kinda just spent several minutes discussing Dinobot as his first answer…
So whilst Vangelus is in the all clear from the sleep paralysis perspective, Aaron may have some serious sleep attack issues there! And yes, you can just blame me

Please forgive the bump but I hope Vangelus sees this. Chris (can I call you Chris), you and I are very similar on our Mon preferences. After G1 they got weirder and weirder. But sir, I would definitely suggest you look at the Mon from Black/White. Those are the closest I've encountered to the feel of G1 Pokemon since G1. I'm curious if you would agree. Maybe I should make this a listener question…

To be honest, I never really associate Apeface and Snapdragon with the other '87 Decepticon Headmasters because of the triple changing, especially since it left the beast modes having a sort of "covered in chunks of futuristic jet" motif. I just want some other kind of awesome mecha beast with a cockpit, like a robotic shark or bear or platypus. Twinferno kinda scratched that itch a little, but not enough to make it go away.
Gojira Prime
I think he means "cool" in that well written sense you say, not "I wanna have a drink with this guy" cool.
LordGigaIce
On IDW Optimus using the religious beliefs of others to further his own ends because he thinks he knows what's best…
It makes for a messed up, compelling, and well-written character.
I wouldn't say "cool" though.

When it comes to good morally complex characters I think pretty much any of the Lost Light characters would fit.
I don't do the memory thing with toys that much. At most I might remember the general time period of when I got it, but it definitely happens with video games.
I associate a lot of Cartoon Network shows with Runescape, and last year I played through the Kingdom Hearts franchise while binge watching the CW DC shows and Once Upon a Time, so those are always going to bring up memories of the other.
Fun Fact: The woman that plays Green Arrow's sister also voices Aqua, one of the main characters from Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.
Also, every sub group could use more female characters. Including the ones that are defined by being all girls.

I do tend to swap the weapons around with my legends class figures but I only do it with that size class oh and the titan master weapons get swapped around but that's part of the gimmick.
As for the memories attached with figures I can probably tell you where most of my figures come from and a few do have strong memories especially if they were holiday gifts or if I just happened to receive them under unique circumstances. For example I got Alpha Trion when I got home from voting in last year's election. So I do have some figures that I do have strong memories attached to but not really strong emotions, at least not to the level asked about in the question.
Prime135
I do the memory thing, but more with shows than with figures. For example, I watched headmasters for the first time when I had the flue, so now I always remember being sick when I watch it.

Don't forget the PCCs when you talk about new team members!

Yay, a new ep. So just getting into it and you start with the comics and how they spin doctor the toy designs into the story. Isn't that what you were talking about a few episodes back with that Kamen Rider show, where the episodes sell the toy? This is a good example of convergent evolution. Anyway, I think that's what we do now.
We're a generation of spin doctors that come up with excuses and reasons for the way things are. Mind you it's always been done like with DC merging worlds with Crisis or Marvel splitting off new worlds with Ultimates, just not through the fourth wall as such. And we're all getting into it Abrams style (Star Trek did it awesome). We are interested in the way Marvel will deal with Inhumans and Mutants and how DC competes and even the affects of Carrie Fisher's passing on the Star Wars world building just like we are fascinated by the originality of making sense of toy design in a story. The elements of real life to unreal fiction intermingling is almost like… enlightenment.
I hope we get to enlighten this,
.
Haven't got into the Pokemon talk yet, but noticing the Poke-talk above, must say some of those plushies are really really awesome and think I might start a collection for a new niece. Bought Snorlax for someone else but think he is so cool I want to keep it. And now a Terrakion is on sale at HLJ for like Y480. I don't know if it's the same maker, but a thought occurred. This could be an oddball one of collecting the Pokemon from different companies rather than following particular toy lines.
Also kinda exactly what you do in the game, collecting all the different Pokemon. And lately I've been regretting finding a blue pokeball which I used as a Christmas present. Haven't found another since.
I put down four of those Terrakion's.
Triceradon
When it comes to switching weapons/accessories, I was generally on board with you guys until I purchased TF Legends Arcee and Nightbird. They're so overburdened with accessories, I couldn't not parcel them out. I ended up giving Arcee's swords to Generations Jhiaxus and Nightbird's guns to Generations Nightbeat (with his weird blaster things pegged to his legs, out of sight in the crowd).

Please never talk about pokemon again

I totally guess what it was that Vangelus dropped.

Update! This was sent my way. My guess was right! I now feel 100x better about MP Cheetor's whiskers, seeing that they're long unified pieces.View attachment 27691530

Listening to the Switch part now, and thought I'd drop a comment about the kickstand. It does have a locking point. You have to push on it a bit to get it to lock out, but it can. Yeah it's still easily the flimsiest part of the console, but at least that solves one part of your problem with it.
