Feed them to the Sharkticons!
Next up in our site gallery updates, we’re sharing the first of three shoots from Titans Return Legends Wave 3. Hailing from the execution pits of the planet Quintessa, we bring you the vicious Sharkticon, Gnaw!
Gnaw is a cool little toy which homages the rotund look of the original Sharkticon, but with some innovation to make him imposing, or at least as much as a small guy like him can ever be. The robot mode has a few issues for me, since neither the arms or the legs can straighten out, meaning his limbs always have a bit of a curl to them, and the shark arms look awkward on the ankles from some angles. The poseability and the balance are very nice, and the Sharkticon mode is excellent throughout, though the Titan Master gimmick – involving riding in the Sharkticon’s mouth, feels a little tacked-on. Overall a nice figure, and the lower pricepoint does mean army building is a possibility. Check out the gallery, and judge for yourself, and as always, full thoughts are after the break.
Titans Return Sharkticon Gnaw Gallery
Pros
- Menacing look in both modes
- Great balance in robot modes
- Includes a weapon, a rarity for Legends class toys
Cons
- Arms and legs cannot fully straighten
- Shark mode arms look a bit awkward on the ankles in robot mode
Overall
A good and solid figure, reasonably priced for the inevitable army building. Thoroughly recommended.

How can something so creepy, be so hilariously cute? Oh wait, its you people and your awesome photos.
He's a really fun figure to play with. Highly recommended if you can find him.

Yeah.
I somehow found a couple TR Gnaws at the local Wally's yesterday. Only two, and mostly hidden in between pegs of yet-so-much-plethora-of-bumblebees.
While TR Gnaw is nice, I think it's spectacularly overpriced at the US$9.84 or so wally-pricing. Even more scalper-priced at amzn and other online sites, it seems…

I tried eBay China, we'll see…

I just need one but it's barren all around me
Scourgatron
I only got it for the awesome Shark mode. The robot mode is crap.

I count FIVE in that photo: 2 on the top peg, immediately behind the BB, and 3 on the bottom, 3 of the rear four.

I have never troop/army built, not once in 30+ years. Displaying 1 sharkticon seemed a bit off IMO so now I have 3 and that seems OK. Now if Hasbro would bring out the bipedal Alligator-cons before I snag that nice looking 3P offering! (No troop building with 3P or it would break my wallet lmao!)
Chillyn
Where are you? Target and Walmart have been getting them. You can't see him, but there is probably like 7 or 8

It is indeed difficult to find Gnaw at retail..

Oooh! I love this little guy. I'm sooo glad I got him. I honestly can't recommend him enough.

I have yet to jump on the band wagon with this guy , hope for a deluxe version in the future .

Sounds good. I was just tryin' to be helpful! I have no idea why Viper is a troop builder… but he's a nice fig, so there's always that.
Nonetheless, you'd think Hasbro would bother making the crossover more special/official – why not do special packaging or a special release?
Back to Gnaw, I guess what I'm really getting at is that we need a GI JOE version of this guy? Cause when you combine Viper's popularity with this guy's natural charisma? IMAGINE THE COMBO.

I'm aware of the inspiration, just that I always saw Viper as a unique character and a one-off, as in one Decepticon that happened to come to Earth and scan a Cobra plane as his alt-mode, and nothing about his official bio made me think any different (that Toyfair statement aside there's no mention of there being more than one Viper in any of the Combiner Wars fiction).

So you're…. AGREEING with me? Can't tell, mate!
But while my kid LOVES that little BB (and who can blame him, it's a nice figure ), I think there's more profit in selling troop builder Gnaw to the Collectors. Just my opinion, and there's no real way to prove anything without Hasbro releasing some damn sales numbers (if they even track which toys sell).
Kickback should be 3, Gnaw 4, and BB 1. Make BB the chase. You can always re-release him in the next wave. Or maybe 5 Gnaw's, 2 Kickbacks, 1 BB. But again, Hasbro worships Optimus and BB as the only things that sell, and it's really short-sighted. Consider: this is a collector line for older fans… I don't think they love BB as much as kids do… comparatively to rarer sights such as Kickback and Gnaw. The point is that Gnaw will be harder to find… I'd like to say… but the reality is that I've never even seen this wave hit a single store near me. Kudos to UK'ers, but we're dry in the Midwest!
Not a GI JOE fan, one can assume. Viper is a crossover with Cobra, right? And Cobra typically flies a squadron of planes into battle… I think that's the troop builder inspiration.

I got two of them, like the shark mode but the robot mode leaves much to be desired. But then again are really buying this guy for his robot mode? My only other issue is how hard it is to find them at retail, I was lucky to find three but only got two and I might want to pick up more in the future.

Any tips on where to buy? Got played by Chinese eBay seller so now a lil gun-shy with going that route again …

I think I prefer the G1 toy, this ones a bit chibi

He's definitely a fun little guy and garishly 80's (in a good way). That said, I do wonder if the Sharkticons that are available off eBay are knock-offs (bought two from a seller from China). They look identical to the original at first blush, but some of the tolerances of the joints (like the shark arms and mace-tail fitting into the back of the alt mode) are a bit loose. Meanwhile, the genuine figure seems to have tighter joints and generally better fit and finish, at least IMHO.

I got one lol
