Rumors have been circulating for a while of Titans Return going down the Combiner Wars route of giftsets to prolong the line and offer up more characters, and the latest reports of a SKU in Canadian Toys R Us systems seems to clinch this one as a reality.
The reported SKU is 290858, carrying a price of $149.99 CAN, analogous with the price of Combiner Wars boxed sets in Canada. The SKU’s text gives the sets name as EX-Generations SRS Pack 1 Speed.
For those following, this is one of a number of leaks posted last year by the Transmissions podcast – one that you might have been right to be skeptical of at the time. According to their rumor, this set would consist of different figures in different size classes, including a leader class Quickswitch (from Sixshot), Star Convoy (from the Voyager Optimus Prime), Nautica (from Blurr / Brainstorm), Fastlane, and Titan Master Thunderclap. There is nothing here to confirm the breakdown of the set – all we have apparent confirmation of is a name.
Perhaps we’ll learn more at Toy Fair this weekend?

The box sets allow Hasbro to do something extra. It is a different price point. The budget is more flexible. It allows them to release more figures. It allows them to revisit or include ideas that didn't have space in the normal release structure.
I am looking forward to these sets!
Archon Shiva
I'm honored.

I'd assume the masterminds at Hasbro, who actually have marketing data from all those previous boxed sets, determined that they were worth making for some ineffable reason. Maybe people buy them, I don't know.

If they are looking to prolong the toyline, why make expensive box sets?

Thunderclap, being a little titan master kills me

Nautica!!!

Fun concept. A rich man's triple changer, I guess.
We're I Hasbro, I'd worry that people'd think "I already have one of these five", but maybe they'll be packed in alt mode.

It'll give Hasbro a reuse for that mold.

Half of the characters you listed are movie, not post-movie. Of the post-movies you did list, half of them had limited exposure prior to IDW. What's next, citing the Erector joke vote a few years back? Sorry, that is nothing compared to the pre-movie cast.
Hey, I'd like Vanguard and Good Knight in a giftset too but I'd never claim they'd print a zillion dollars.

Autobot and Decepticon Clones from the G1 family. Autobots Cloudraker and Fastlane. Decepticons Pounce and Wingspan.
Archon Shiva
Just to be sure, what does "clone" mean in this context?
KFGatri
For me the main draw would be Star Convoy – I collect Primes and a homage to the last G1 Convoy would be nice. The Apex armor would be cool but unnecessary since PMOP never had it until Hasbro brought over the God Ginrai reissue and sold it as their PMOP reissue. (Besides, I'm getting Godbomber to go with Super Ginrai – he's the one who actually needs the set!)
But two G1 characters I have little affinity for and an IDW character (which for me is not only not a draw but a negative!) aren't enough to make the set worth the price, whatever that price may be. I'd much rather these be individual releases.
Purple Heart
Each of the Strength and Speed boxsets comes with two clones of each faction.
So for example speed would have Fastlane and Wingspan, and Strength would have Cloudraker and Pounce, alongside the orhers in boxset.(supposedly)

I'm torn because the two characters I want, Tidal Wave and Nautica, are in different packs. I may end up getting both, but if I only get one and then hope the other shows up at Ross, I'll probably go with the strength pack. The appeal Tidal Wave and the PM Prime mold with the armor outweighs getting another blurr mold character for me personally, even if I like her a lot as a character.
What I really want to know is if the other two clones not in these sets will be released individually in an upcoming wave, or if they'll be in other potential future boxsets. There was talk of the potential for an Intelligence and Firepower boxset, so that'd be one clone per set. I'm super curious as to what other characters and figures they'd include in those sets. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is maybe doing a white repaint of Perceptor with a new head as Quark for the intelligence set? Shrug, this is all just speculation though.

I may very well buy these sets if I have the money. I need me a Nautica.
