I was aware of that, Milne found out that he would be alternating with Lawrence when they announced it at SDCC, which was SUPER shitty of IDW. Also, according to his twitter, he has yet to receive any work for The Lost Light. If my boss told me he was splitting my shift with some other person and waited right before the quarter was supposed to start to tell me and then didn't send me anything to work on, I'd be filling out resumes right away.

It's worth pointing out that Roberts has no control or input as to who draws the books. That's all down to IDW editorial. Having spoken with him in the past there's artists who he's loved having draw MTMTE and others he was less happy with, but had no say in the matter.
Anyway, off to see both Roberts and Lawrence this evening to get my books signed. Gonna be great!

After someone pointed it out yesterday I did a quick search and it was announced in July on SDCC that Alex and Jack would be alternating arcs. I feel stupid I wrote an email to IDW because of dropping Milne…
lordcryotek
That is probably at least a factor, sadly. The main issue here is that they're keeping the poor guy in the dark, at least according to Milne. I don't know whose call this was, but the way they handled it was super shitty to Milne.

It might be worth considering that the page rates of the people you've mentioned above have something to do with the amount of work they are getting…cynical I know…

I am not going to drop the book. I admit I was extremely disappointed that Milne was not there for Lost Light first issue. I bought some blanks so I at least has his art work on the cover.
YakMaster003
I agree. Milne's art is something special. It has a dynamic that I don't see in many (any?) other titles I currently read. I look forward to Alex's triumphant arrival to LL! Or return, for those — such as myself — who consider it MTMTE Season 3.
I think Lawrence could really grow into something special. He has talent, and given time I'm sure his style will evolve. In some ways, his art reminds me of early Milne, ala Megatron Origins. Also consider how MTMTE looked at the beginning and near the end. Alex's art matured a ton over the past 5 years. Just look at the Season 1 panels from the Shadowplay" arc that were spliced into Season 2's "Elegant Chaos" arc. You can tell the same hand drew everything, but the newer art just pops more.
Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm making much sense. I haven't slept well for the last week and feel kinda loopy right now.
RNSrobot
EXACTLY. Thank you for phrasing it so. Milne's art is not just decent looking robots. They are ALIVE on the page. His panel layouts and visual storytelling are top notch.
Livio draws pinups. I like his pinups. Storytelling is not his forte.

That's certainly troubling that he hasn't received any work yet. To still offer a counterpoint, Roberts has confirmed that the first story arc is multiple issues (five, if I recall correctly). I know it varies, but I remember following Milne's Twitter when he worked on MTMTE, and he would usually tweet about drawing the interiors for the issue three to four issues ahead of what was last released. So it's possible that this first story arc isn't finished yet, and possibly the scripts for the second story arc haven't even been finalized.
But this is just me coming up with excuses. Regardless, it is pretty shitty to not only replace Alex for LL's #1, but to not even inform him that he'd be sharing art duties on the book until the book was officially announced. That's a foul on IDW and James Roberts, who I feel like should have been communicative to prevent this kind of misunderstanding (especially since, as RNS correctly noted, MTMTE would not have reached its popularity without Alex bringing it to life).
Hopefully Alex will report that he's begun work on LL and all will be cleared up soon. In the meantime, I actually do like Lawrence's art, though if he was to be the permanent replacement for Milne I'd be very disappointed. Lawrence's art suffers the same problem I have with Sakamoto's art, in that it's good, but comes off as a little lifeless. Milne nails facial expressions and dynamic body language in a way that no one at IDW can match, not even Roche at this point. If it's true that he's been left off the book, IDW might as well have shot themselves in the foot for Lost Light.
lordcryotek
This is BS. They give that hack Livio a ton of work, but give their best artist the cold shoulder? I am going to give IDW a chance to correct this issue, but if I don't see Milne back on the comic soon I am definitely dropping all but TAAO.
RNSrobot
I recall that announcement.
Like I feel betrayed a little. Milne is as much of mtmte success as Roberts. Comics do this shit. Writers get all the glory as if the artists are interchangeable. Mtmte has shown that is not true; the best shit is by Milne (or Roche on issue 1). There have been some very good fill-in artists but even they ape milne's now iconic style.
Milne is a visual storyteller. Give ramondelli the first ten issues and the book gets cancelled. Milne gave life to those scripts beyond "drawing the script." He told the story.
Lawrence looks FINE. milne-ish. Seems like a good kid, tf fan, happy to get the gig. I have zero issue with Lawrence accepting the work.
Stryker055
Milne is confirmed to still be on the book; he and Lawrence will alternate story arcs. Lawrence is doing the first arc, Milne will do the next, and so on.
lordcryotek
If I don't see Milne come back soon, it could tip the scales in favor of me dropping MTMTE despite my hopes that this season could improve. I would go so far as to say that Milne is the person who brought me into MTMTE, not Roberts.
RNSrobot
I like the art.
I would really like idw and/or Roberts to make a statement on why the fuck the artist responsible for the artistic success of mtmte and most associated with mtmte is a. Not on lost light and b. Doesnt even have a fucking COVER. there are nine frikkin' covers and Milne wasn't asked to do even one.
edgs2099
Is it?
Jus09
It's up to individual interpretation.
Megastar
And now he'll sound like Doc Drown when I read his lines.
edgs2099
Are..are we looking at the same art?
Jus09
The artwork does a good job of emulating Nick Roche's style. Which is never a bad thing.
