IDW’s Chris Ryall has shared the unlettered artwork for the first page of Transformers: Optimus Prime issue 1. This artwork is the first interior artwork by the extremely talented artist Kei Zama, and it depicts a forklift style Transformer in the earliest days of the Cybertronian Wars. What does it mean and how will it fit into the unfolding tapestry of the new Transformers ongoing from IDW? You’ll need to pick up issue 1 when it arrives to find out. In the meantime, check out Kei Zama’s artwork attached to this post, both in its uninked linework, and fully colored by the talented Josh Burcham!

Holy, the art is fantastic. But you gotta give it to Josh as well for the sick colouring. It's got that pure late g1 japanese anime style, the kind that only existed in pictures and loose art drawings (or in your tf anime imagination if you were like me).
Man, this page just singlehandedly got me back into TF comics again. Shit.
EVILHARE
remember that botcon turbo master?

Hello Dion?
Fort Max
I thought it was optimus primals techno beast robot mode (I don't know beast wars so well!) Initially but whoever it is it's really great to see Kei Zama getting a full time gig like this.

Very nice art!!! Looking forward to more.

Love this art.
I\'m pretty sure this is just an OC created for one reason or another. They seem dead now anyway, so I guess it doesn\'t really matter? Question mark?
Starscream Gaga
I was convinced it was Dion! That sounds unlikely now though.

Thanks for the clearer picture Autovolt.
Cool characterdesign, i love me some forklift transformer.

While not optimus, I like to think it\'s a nod to the episode where the aerialbots go back in time, and orion was a dock worker, was deceived that the new flying bots were cool, stabbed in the back by megatron and then was heavily damaged before being rebuilt by A3

Burcham tweeted that the character's colours are based off of Armada Smokescreen's, although it's not actually him.
Fallout
dion was a dock worker, wasn't he? but he never had red eyes, lol
could be rotf deadlift, but he had his forks on his arms and didn't have any blue on his joints
liftor from armada was a blue and orange forklift, but his face was pretty distinctively… not that, lol. but his partner smokescreen had a face pretty similar to our mystery man here, so..
all in all, who the fuck knows?
Nanox
Nice art. Judging by the colors and general silhouette, I think that character might be Dion.

Sorry guys , but who is the obscure yellowish docking by vehicle ?
GoLion
That art is fantastic. I can\'t wait to see more.

It's safe to say both the Transformers and human characters are in safe hands, she's amazing at both. She recently did an issue of Scarlet Witch, and if you check out her Tumblr, Steel and Starlight, you can see a bunch of her sketches including both robits and humans.
bumblebeej8
I'm definitely picking this one up

Oops. Thanks for the clarification.

I think it's Liftor

Zama's a her, FYI.
Omegashark18
That he does! Man, this is some good art. Kei Zama's going to be a welcome addition to the fold.
Hope her humans look good.
