The next Masterpiece release is out in the wild, this time an “anime” recolor of MP-14 Red Alert. This version has light grey color instead of stark white like the original toy to better match the cartoon. By itself on first glance it’s hard to tell, but there is a significant difference with the white paint found on the first release and other white Masterpieces. If you missed out on the first run of Red Alert, he’s a worthy stand in to help complete your Autobot ranks. We’ve done up a gallery so head on over to Reflector @ TFW2005 and check out 55+ images in action.
Of Note: Reflector @ TFW2005 is our new image focused toy gallery, is mobile friendly, and you can swipe through the whole set at once.
Red Alert is out now and shipping, head on over to TFSource to pick yours up today!

Bought this on a whim and got to say, absolutely love this deco on him. To me it makes the mold feel much more premium, glad I bit on it.

I wasn't sold on this initially, but recent photos have swayed me. I also own MP Clampdown and feel that this version of RA will distinguish it further from the former.

I like the more unified color scheme (it also helps that it's toon accurate) but I'm not quite sold on the off white / almost gray compared to the cleaner stark white on the first MP-14 release.

Man, I only wish they went the Grapple route and introduced a heavily modified mold with new parts to give him more accurate arms and other parts. I would be all over this if that were the case.
DoubleClouder
Having the legs white (well light gray) and the shoulders black, really sell it for me. I like the toy colors of MP-14, but I like the animation models white legs better.

I am sorry, but this is useless without comparisons with the original one…
I honestly cannot tell from looking at this what he differs in from the first release. I think that one had a red helmet too, and that's basically all that the cartoon Red Alert differs from the toy, IMHO.

It's the other way for me. MP-14 looks like a test shot. It's almost KO like, similar to the gold KO Lamborghini. It almost doesn't look like Red Alert, very much like 3P. You know who it's supposed to be but it's just not the character, just an imitation.

I'm not a fan of this one. I think he looks like a half-painted test shot. I don't begrudge him the people who do want the Sunbow deco, though, and I would get a MP29+ if they ever did one.

Great robot mode but I just can't justify the price of this guy with those alt mode side panels. ALL the other car bots snap up really nice except for this guy and he should have the coolest alt mode of all the Autobots. What really cracks me up is they can't even get his wheel wells on the box art to line up.

Seeing the pics, I personally prefer the white one now just looks more cleaner to me, granted the anime one is yes toon accurate but for me it's eh.

Yeah. You're right, I don't have to buy it and I don't plan to. I guess, it's not really about this figure in particular but the direction of the line as a whole that concerns me.
I have nearly every MP release to date including the original Alert. I think he looks great as is but he is much more "toy" influenced (which I admittedly prefer). He's a good blend of the "toy" and "toon" as they all have been in the past. My issue is that this more "toon" oriented direction as of late just doesn't match the previous releases. It's a bit of OCD on my part. If it was always "toon" influenced, than there wouldn't be a comparison and it would be a non issue. But that is not the case. If anything up till recently Takara has taken a very "toy" influenced approach. It's like changing art direction mid film… It just doesn't jive.
Now, ideally, it would be nice if they were to offer both paint decos at the same time. Seems to me more like Takara is going for the "money grab" spacing out releases which cater to different audiences.. it is a bit "slimy"
What will be… will be… I guess

A couple of shots of the old versus new Alert.
When seen side by side the difference is stark and makes for a compelling reason to purchase.

He could have been chosen perhaps because he's one of the most inaccurate to the source material of the MP's released so far since MP-10? Who knows? But I don't see what the problem, you can simply choose not to buy it. I mean MP-10 is out, which I'm sure you have, if an anime accurate one was to come out, would you have to buy it, no, you wouldn't, it's your choice!?
There were tonnes of repaints I'm not interested in and I didn't buy, I treat this as the same, a repaint, which I'm interested in. I could understand your dismay if the figure was somehow better in a way, if it had more included in it but it isn't the case so I don't see a the problem!?
I'm the one who should be complaining, I'm the toon accurate nut who's going to be replacing/upgrading all my figures with these anime accurate versions!?

To bad I already have MP Red Alert or I would of gotten this one. I love the cartoon versions from the MP line This is the only reason why I collect MP cause to me they look so much like there cartoon counter part and I love the cartoon alot. I don't care if there not detail like how the 3rd party are. To me they look misty looking and I don't like that in my Transformers. I can't wait until MP Thrust comes this month.

I know some people are really digg'n on this and if this was how the MP line started I'd probably feel much different, but as it stands as a one off, I REALLY hope that this does NOT become the new standard. I've been collecting MP since MP1 back in 2004 and this doesn't fit with anything else in the entire MP line to date. Not to mention that all the molded detail is painted over with thick glossy paint make this look really chincy to me even though I know that all this paint is actually very costly. It is also very weird that they started with a tertiary character. I would figure a primary character like Optimus or Megs or a secondary character like Starscream or Bumble Bee. Red Alert was like in two whole episodes… Just a weird place to start and I just don't feel it fits with any other MP. If this does become the standard, I'm not buying all my MPs again just to match. I'll just go full 3rd party to finish my G1 collection. I'm not saying that it is no good, just that I don't feel it fits everything else to date and that it is pretty much starting the collection over.
