It’s not everyday Michael Bay gets a praise. Especially considering the recent controversy in England. But when you get a praise from one of the top actors in the Industry, it usually means a lot.
Sir Anthony Hopkins praised director Michael Bay and his Transformers Live Action Movies while working on the London set of Transformers: The Last Knight.
“Working with Michael Bay is quite an experience. He’s got the whole film up there (points to the head)… He’s in command of the whole ship… There is no political correctness. They don’t take time. They just ‘Lets do it’. I like that.”
It’s always nice to have talent such as Sir Hopkins around. He’ll be working on the Buckingham Palace set of Transformers 5 today as well. More on that, in a moment.

Time will tell. However, criticizing the movie and praising the work ethic of the director are not contradictory.

I seem to recall Hopkins, Elba and Ecclestone all dissing Thor when the hoopla had died down as "formulaic Hollywood" and "another CGI mess" (which they were all more than happy to get the pay check and exposure for) so I imagine if he can be arsed to say anything about it at all six months after release it will probably be similarly condescending. Just that nobody here will care by then.
It's what they do come promo time. And how they live with themselves after that.

Well said. Fully agree with that !

In any other medium, this would make him more "pure" and therefore worthy of high critical praise. A great painter makes great paintings, regardless whether the subject has any significance outside of the painting (or even if there's no subject at all). They don't have to rely on any context outside of painting. A great writer writes well and doesn't have to rely on visual illustrations. Comic books aren't (usually) considered fine art because neither the art side nor the literary side stand on their own. And yet with film we say "oh, it's a mixed medium" and disregard a technically excellent film that fails to also be good as performed literature or doesn't choose a worthy subject. We never judge a movie as cinematography for cinematography's sake, and it's virtually the only medium I can think of where that's the case.

Actually I think Sir Anthony is being sincere; he's good at the 'acting as art' thing but from interviews I've read he's never really been into the cliques of the industry – just doesn't interest him. He'll make World's Fastest Indian and RED2 because on some level they interest him and he enjoys a good pay day.
It's like that Sir Christopher Lee (vale) maxim "One may be in terrible films, but one should never be terrible in them" or words to that effect. Clearly they have similar attitudes.

Side note to do with Sir Anthony, I found this video on Instagram that shows him (I think) riding in Cogman and then walking away from Cogman. So he switches vehicles at some point?

Don't remind me. That was terrible.
maltesefalcon
the designs are terrible and the humour is juvenile but compared to some of the remakes over the years i think we got of light, does anyone remember ben kingsleys thunderbirds?
Dormamu
Well, we know what happens when you say bad things about him. Soo……

Can I have some of what you were smoking when you wrote that comment. If must be powerful stuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he praised Michael Bay and the attitude of both him and his crew/cast, not the movies themselves.
Enigma2K2
I'm beyond caring.
Dinobot Snarl
He can have all the awful movies in his head he wants, just stop calling them Transformers.
Moy
Agreed.
BumblebeeNotOP
Wait till Burnout sees this lol. But seriously, Bay has never disappointed me. He's the reason I got into Transformers

Did you just address the country in sexual harassing manner?
