The latest waves of Titans Return are dropping in the States this week and tonight we’ll be taking a look at one of those newbies – Titans Return Leader Class Soundwave! Hasbro’s second offering of the boombox mold sees Wave 1’s Blaster get re-purposed for his arch nemesis. Structurally he’s the same but we have some new cuts and paint applications, along with a new head/helmet combo and additional shoulder cannon. The color is signifcantly darker than the initial renders, and the helmet also does not look as odd as it did in those first shots either. It’s a really solid piece that compliments Blaster perfectly.
Take a look at over 80 shots in our full gallery here: TFW2005’s Titans Return Soundwave Gallery. We’ve also added some key shots after the break!

Admittedly, y'alls comments convinced me to buy it. I don't dig making modern Transformer toys into old outdated items unless it is some masterpiece. But didn't realize that the alt mode was more of a phone dock than some 80s boom box. That sold me on this figure and I really like it, except for the yellow eyes. Lol
I recently got him and I noticed you can mod him to be less of a headmaster.

I got the Takara Blaster version because it's a decent Blaster at the same scale as MP Soundwave, but the mold is weak enough that I don't think I'll pick up Soundwave in either Takara or Hasbro modes. If I want a big Soundwave I'll stick with the MP. The only reason I may revisit that is if the base mode goes OK with Trypticon.
rooker
better masterpiece soundwave.

These are some beautiful pics. I'd love to see the photographer's setup.

Pic Request:
Can we see a shot of Soundwave with the CW Megatron and the 3 seekers?

I was originally just going to stick with Music Label and Masterpiece Soundwave but now this figure is really starting to grow on me. I don't know there's just something I'm really liking about this design.

Nah I like the MP Soundwave for what he is.This is a more cheaper and more modern take on him.
Requiem Prime
Very nice. It almost makes me wish I never broke down and got the Masterpiece set.

Well, the five main Decepticons have always towered over most of the Autobots in the cartoon so I don't see why people are complaining.
As for the base, I like it. I'll probably get it just so my Decepticon Titan Masters have a place to go besides Blaster. For cassettes, I might get Ravage and Laserbeak, even if the Buzzsaw mold was total garbage in terms of plastic feel and third mode (it probably looks better in black). That, and I want to get four of each of the legends molds released in TR. It just feels different to me.

Wow he's actually bigger than the MP? That's a surprise.
No it hasn't. Leader class didn't come into play until Jetfire for thrilling 30. Up until then we only had Voyagers and deluxes with the exception of Universe which also had Ultras (as well as minicons for Classics and Legends for Classics, Universe, and RTS.)

Nah I'd rather have this, I'd actually play with this. I have MP Optimus, his complexity while perfect, is too much for casual play
ABH1979
Yeah, this for me.
At a different time, I'd be really eager to get this.
Galvatron Rage
Haha, yep. I like it too.
I think I literally said "oh, sweet!" when I saw that picture. That will probably be the mode I display him in!

Hasbro should hire this guy to take stock photos, He sold me on the US version of Soundwave.

I like this a lot, even though the alt-mode is a bit weird. I'm still down.

I kind of don't get why everyone would prefer this to be a voyager. CHUG has always had leader figures. And as mentioned, he goes great with CW Megs and Starscream/seekers. (Though admittedly if you want autobots to go against that group, you really need to use TR PMOP, CW Mags and TR Blaster to "anchor" the scale.) If you really need Voyagers, there's FoC Soundwave, Soundblaster and Blaster for that. (I love that mold too, got all three plus all the data discs.)
As far as the base mode, I suppose it depends on how "All in" you are on the Titans return play pattern. If you've been collecting the Titan Masters and like to display them as bots, the base modes are invaluable for that. Soundwave is the first Decepticon base in the line, and his base mode is good. Even if you don't care for the base, you don't have to use that mode.
As far as alt mode goes, I admit that it feels a bit more optimized for Blaster, but the only thing that really bothers me is the handle. Part of me wishes it was tooled out for Soundwave, but I think it was kept for the Base mode. That said, you can rotate the handle to the back so it's not visible.
But I've really been enjoying this figure the last couple of days, and it's good to finally have a home for CW Buzzsaw! I may get the rest of his tablets. The buzzsaw/laserbeak mold is pretty good, only really weak in it's "third" mode. I have Rewind, who Rumble is retooled from, and that's an excellent toy that works perfectly in all three modes! Definitely want Rumble. I don't have the stripes/ravage mold, but it looks to be by far the weakest. I skipped Stripes, not sure if I can bring myself to get Ravage or not.

I'd be way into this if the MP wasn't on it's way again, the only thing I don't like is the colors plus the boxiness that everyones mentioned, the base mode hurt what could've been a true budget MP. I'm very eager to see how much better all our customizers can make this one look!
optimusmegas
i'm very tempted to get this guy…i'd rather have a voyager or deluxe non foc soundwave though….but he does look fun and actually makes me want to get that ravage and laserbeak to go with him.

Now those are some damn fine shots. Love that backdrop/lighting setup.

That lamp post mode is amazing. 10/10
