We have another gallery showcasing the Titans Return line for you! Back for revenge after his defeats in Megatron Origin and War for Cybertron, this is Sentinel Prime!
The first and most obvious thing on Sentinel is his color. He’s very orange, which gives him a striking look but hides the masses of fine details on his body. The robot itself has nice poseability, and as a Titans Return Voyager, he’s a triple changer!
The two alternate modes – shuttle and train – manage to look distinct. Or at least as much as a triple changer ever does (the shuttle wings stick out on the armored train). The modes have a satisfying size to them too, especially the extremely long train mode.
Overall, Sentinel is a toy that is fun to transform and fiddle with. He’s not perfect – those colors are very bright and the train won’t be for everyone. That being said, I’ve heard people at TFcon warming to this one. Check out our gallery and see what you think.

After seeing this oh so orange Sentinel Prime, he suddenly reminds of this =

No, only what was shown in Five Faces of Darkness AFAIK. Sentinel Prime was entirely a creation of Simon Furman for a strip in the UK comics annual, and then a reference in Matrix Quest (which set up the lineage used in the IDW comics much later too), "We are Prima… we are Nova… we are Sentinel… we are Optimus… we are THUNDERWING!"
Sentinel didn't exist in Japan until Animated and DOTM, though those drew their inspiration from the comics, especially DOTM.

Does the Prime (or Convoy) lineage exist in Japan like it does in American fiction?

Honestly I can't see Takara do a Sentinel Prime for the Legends line at all and it's due to Sentinel not having much to do in the original G1 universe. The Legends line mostly consists of characters from the many TF shows from past eras and Sentinel never had much of a role in the G1 show especially when compared to Astrotrain. If they do one I'll eat my words but still I'm expecting them to use the Sentinel head for another character.

I know some people hate repaints, but I'm weird and I actually dig repaints. Toss in the Headmasters gimmick is going to make head swaps at home the easiest thing ever and repaints start getting even more tempting.
But I hope that Hasbro does something like a DOTM or Animated repaint rather than Takara.
Ha ha, and people have me paranoid that if I skip this figure there will be one or two paint apps easily done at home that will really make the figure pop.

Not buying until I see what Takara does with him. I hope they don't repaint him in DOTM or Animated Sentinel Prime colors.

Oh boy I hope so. I would be right there.

I am in love with this Prime. The face sculpt is so good. Poseablitiy is great. He's just fun and awesome. Wish all of the the train wheels were painted, and such, but I am going to work some magic with a Gundam marker.
Great figure !!

Really tempted to buy two for matching gun pairs

I wonder if 3rd party makers will do the Megatron: Origins Apex Armor.
Nemisispath
Yeah, that looks better! If I can find him, I definitely doing this!

I did a few pics of this:

He looks pretty good, like Fireguts Astrotrain. I'm saving my money for Takara Astrotrain, I think.

You know, no one is forcing you to buy those toys. I don't have every remold in that picture.

That's an awesome picture.
I think the re-colors of CW is not even close to be being done. After all, we haven't even gotten to all of the shattered glass and diaclone homages yet…..

That makes sense. Good to see someone else who wants other series outside of G1 to get some love like I do.
I can see your issue with the colours by the way. I'm going to have to buy some gun metal and gold paint, and possibly some blue.

For me the problem isn't a G1 problem. While I haven't liked every cartoon series since G1 I have given them all a chance and there are several where I liked the cartoon and I liked the characters. Part of the reason I collect GHUG instead of Masterpiece is I enjoy the new takes on classic characters over being so slavish to G1. I've even got a list of characters that I'd like see get a new figure that were not part of G1.
I like the mold. While some people have fussed about the Hasbro colors on Astrotrain not being G1 enough I like the colors on the mold. The colors for Sentinel Prime just don't work for me. It feels like there needs to be something to break up the over abundance of orange and red. If they use the mold a third time and it's colors that work for me I might be interested in that.

But they are not good figures. Onslaught for example still has the siren lights from Hot Spot, Rook's mold is totally inappropriate for Swindle. Brawl and Breakdown were terrible. Blast-off was a repainted/redecoed Quickslinger. The only ones that came out of this good were the Aerialbots. You were shit out of luck if you wanted to buy Menasor/Bruticus because one was a QC ridden mess that required a 3P upgrade kit and the other was a bunch of recolors/remolds that didn't serve the Decepticon characters at all. And of course you had to shell out top dollar for a UW Constructicon set with elbows and their actual weapons.

But if they're good figures what's the problem?

I really want to see Sentinel's guns pegged into his back…
