Transformers More than Meets the Eye scribe James Roberts recently took to Twitter to address some of the points about the upcoming re-numbering of the series back to issue #1, following IDW’s Revolution event.
The big news to take away from these tweets: More than Meets the Eye is continuing. The story will move into its third season with the new issue #1, and all of the current creative team are staying on. There’s also “a surprise” coming between issue #57 – the Titans Return tie in issue and final issue of the current numbering – and the new #1 this fall.
We’ve reproduced all the tweets after the break (thanks due to TFW2005 member payres for compiling them all), so read on for the full words from Mr MTMTE himself.
Alright, sit down, I need to talk about the future of #MTMTE.
After Dying of the Light, which finishes next issue (#55), there’s a two-part story that ties into the Titans Return crossover.
The Titans Return one-shot, out next month, is by @MairghreadScott, @TheJohnBarber and me. It feeds into exRiD 56 and 57 and MTMTE 56 and 57
MTMTE #56 + #57, set on Luna 1, star Red Alert, Max… and Prowl. We’ve come full circle: he was there at the start, he’s there at the end.
Because MTMTE #57 is the last issue of the series in its current form. But wait! The *story* doesn’t end. Season 3 kicks off in the autumn.
There will be a new #1. It will be a jumping on point, but it will also be a thumping great CONTINUATION. I went there. CAPS LOCK, baby.
Some people have said they’ll walk away after #57, to which I’d say… please, don’t do that. If you do that, you’ll never know how it ends.
Maybe, instead of walking away, you can badger your MTMTE-resistant friends – get ’em to jump on board. Because we’re not done, okay?
I’ve just had a look at some of your reactions. Lots of questions! I can’t answer them all. Um, let’s have another look…
Let’s put it this way. There’s always been a plan with MTMTE. A beginning, middle and end. We’re still on track.
When #1 hits, Season 3 will begin, and continue, as it would have done had the old numbering continued.
There’s a possibility we can revert to the old numbering for the last issue, whenever that is. Not my call, but the Big 2 do it all the time
And unless they’re keeping a secret, none of Team MTMTE are planning to do a runner.
I feel really supported by IDW, who know that MTMTE has a special place in people’s hearts. There’s no desire to tamper with the formula.
You’ll notice I’ve avoided all reference to what actually *happens* in Season 3. That’s because we’re not done with Season 2 yet. Patience!
If the renumbering bothers you, I get it. It matters more to some than others. Hey, I’m the one who made a big thing about reaching #100.
But take heart that we’re still here! Nearly five years and counting. That doesn’t happen much any more, whatever number’s on the cover.
And if I have my way, years down the line, EVERY issue will be gathered together in one huge, 2000 page hardcover omnibus.
Last thing for the moment. There’s a little surprise for you between now and #1. Wait a few weeks and you’ll hear.
I’m so pleased TDOTL has gone down well so far. The last part has it all, as they say.
I’ll say it nearer the time, but if you hate spoilers, don’t even look at the previews. Go in stone cold.

It's never too late to finally fix things.

C'mon, have you people never read a comic from the big 2? Even though there's a shares universe, Spider-Man rarely meets with his fellow Avengers in his own books. That stuff happens in separate comics.
This won't have a big impact on the Transformers comics. Just some vague connections, a namedrop or two. Apart from the temporary crossover event, I really doubt the loose TF issues will now suddenly be full with MASK and ROM characters.

GI Joe….MASK…ROM…and whoever the heck Action Man is
when in 32 years the Transformers mythos has ever been "improved" by adding "more humans"
So yeah IDW taking a Michael Bay approach to it's comics isn't a good thing…Transformers might help the other books sell, but it's going to just water "our" brand down

I really hope in the end things work out the way everyone of us fans want it to and Roberts and barber roll into new story archs that run another 60 issues with out imperial entanglements.
Unfortunately on the pecking order of what's likely.. As I get older and more cynical .. the probabilities…..the chances of things staying the same for much longer…. It's tough
What's next/new could be better. It will on some level be different as a certainty.
I'm suprised marvel or dc havnt snatched up Roberts

Heres an hint dead titan bodies….

Damnit now we have to wait for the ordering to reach 100 isssues when we were more than half way through…

I'm just curious to see if Fortress Maximus gets turned into a Titan City bot in the IDW continuity under Hasbro's direction.
He has never been a city sized bot in any Marvel or IDW comic.

I'm hopeful Hasbro won't shove these crossovers down IDW's throats, but indeed, we shall see. But yes, if they do screw up, then we can get angry.

Some people think they can predict the future, but I wouldn't bet on it.

To be honest I can't blame you for being skeptical, I was initially as well. I've only been reading comics since 2012 and I'm already sick of "events". I don't mind crossovers that are otherwise self contained, but when it's specifically across multiple books that are essential to understanding what the hell's going on in the one(s) you actually give a shit about… eurgh.
It really seems like IDW are trying to avoid that kind of stuff though, and everyone involved has been going out of their way to assure readers that post-Revolution each book will go back to doing their own thing, and that current storylines aren't being abandoned, it'll all just take place in the same world.
I dunno, we'll see how it ends up, I'm cautiously optimistic about the whole thing, but I think maybe save the pitchforks for unless they really do fuck it up, haha.

This.

I'll be very pleased if in 8 months to a year Hasbro isn't propping up its less popular lines with its more successful ones
Until then I'll enjoy the wrap up of our current idw storylines. I'll hope for the best. Sorry my faith in corporations is at a all time low. Cheers

It's not a conspiracy, my dude.

Maybe Some people can see two steps ahead of "what they are telling us"
Maybe some people keep reading this kind of stuff below and read more comics then just transformers so maybe those people have a feel for the modern comics industry
Hard to say why some people might be concerned though
Autovolt 127
Now that would be awesome.
Brave Magnus
Luna-1? The moonquest! xD Aw. Gotta get my hands on the last issues. I am missing a lot! T-T
Megatron118
Some people are still struggling to understand this.

Wow, some of you people man.

Ugh, whoever the lackwit was who decided renumbering with a "NEW #1" should get fired….or fed to unicron…whichever is more painful
Yeah "I went there"…Does renumbering ever work? Does it ever gain more readers than it loses? it "might" work if you have characters as iconic as batman or Spider-man. But comics based on a toy line are already a niche market…can they really afford to upset the apple cart?
Let me put it this way, not sure if this was a decision by someone at IDW or hasbro…but whoever it was I wouldn't be surprised if they share DNA with the Fox executive that canceled Firefly

They could call it Transformers : I had your mum and she was crap issue #500.7 and it wouldn't matter to me as long as the content continues to be excellent!
