Back at Toy Fair 2016, Hasbro showed off a unique 2 pack of RID 20xx Bumblebee and Grimlock. They featured upgraded paint and Grimlock was noticeably bigger, using the Takara-Tomy Battle Grimlock mold. On top of that, the set was packaged in the Generations & Platinum branding, outside of the Robots in Disguise line they originated from. Well today that set is available exclusively in the U.S. at Entertainment Earth! On top of that, we have the set in-hand and have done up over 55 pics of the two in action. Read on to check out our pics and additional details from Entertainment Earth!

Transform your toybox with the Transformers Asia Kids Day Robots in Disguise Premium Grimlock and Bumblebee 2-Pack – an Exclusive! This premium pack portrays protagonists Grimlock and Bumblebee in a whole new light. Sure, they may spend all day in a junk yard, but in this set they have a shiny new finish and some cool new features! Bring home two of the most popular characters from Transformers: Robots in Disguise with this awesome boxed set of transforming plastic action figures.
Bumblebee is the new boss! He’s not the same as the old boss – with Optimus Prime otherwise occupied, our yellow friend leads a group of cadets and misfits on Earth to stop invading Decepticons from trashing the planet and hurting their human allies. This Bumblebee action figure goes through a 7-step change to a car and back again, standing 5-inches tall and ready to save the day. With enhanced paint job, you’ll marvel at his headlights, his cool blue wheel rims, and just oodles of toy detail like you’ve never seen before. There’s never been a better ‘Bee! He even includes a unique sword – check out the enhanced hilt, now decorated silver and redesigned with a new guard. Don’t miss this one – or his big green friend! Bumblebee sports 14 points of articulation.
Grimlock was a Decepticon, but he had a change of heart. Being disguised as a giant robotic dinosaur won’t help him blend in easily on Earth, but he’ll fit right in with your other awesome Autobots. His awesome 4 1/2-inch sword is almost as tall as other Autobots, and this towering terror stands over 7-inches tall in his robot form. Carefully redesigned with an awesome 10-step transformation, Grimlock features a chomping dinosaur jaw, over 15 points of articulation in robot mode, an awesome green shield, and a more complex transformation than any other Grimlock from Robots in Disguise on the market. With blue eyes, yellow highlights, and a candy-like finish you simply can’t get a better Grimlock – so grab this one for extra transformation fun!

Platinum Edition Bumblebee and Grimlock Entertainment Earth Exclusive
Overall Thoughts:
Fun set! The upgraded quality of the figures beyond standard RID 20xx figures is noticeable. Bumblebee still feels a bit plain, but the plastic has a slight metallic sheen to it giving it a bit more pop than the mass release one. Grimlock’s green paint liberally applied in areas not molded in that color help round out the figure along with the additional highlights. It’s nice to see him in the larger Voyager-ish size class too, giving a sense of scale to the Autobot line up. The originally solicited paint scheme for this figure was black and green, and I dug that a bit better than the brown we see here, but it’s not a deal breaker. Bottom line, this gives adult collectors a good representation of the era if they hadn’t jumped into the RID20xx line, and gives those that already were something fancy to stand out! The Entertainment Earth exclusive set is available now on their site, available here!

It's possible that the relative handful of sales they get at their crazy prices offset low volume or shelfwarmers.
For example, if you order 100 cases of X-Men, you may get a low enough price to sell Colossus and Cyclops at a small markup that, eventually, makes up for the others. Or you can order 1 case, charge $100 for each, literally throw away the rest, and maybe even walk away with more profit overall. Frankly, if you're willing to game the exclusive circuit a couple of times per year, you probably don't have to do _anything_ at all for months at a time.

I'm honestly not sure how ToyWiz is still around. They always charge more than other sites, ever since I was younger.

Transformers Generations Grimlock & Bumblebee Action Figure 2-Pack Platinum Edition on sale at ToyWiz.com
Someone explain to me how exactly ToyWiz is planning to sell this for 20 bucks extra?

The worst thing about Bee is they used two different shades of yellow. I guess that paint over clear plastic was hard to match to the rest.
Jerrymiru
Wow, that retool of FOC Grimlock really works for this version.
But yeah, Bee looks to have been a shafted though.
CapnScumbone
And that Grimlock still has a hole in the chest big enough to eat cereal out of. Not worth it.
Deonasis
Has the mold had any structural improvments since FoC?
Mine has knees/lower legs that pop out of place easily in robot mode and bendy/stiff ratchets in the shoulder transformation.
Ironhide1234
They look quite decent.

I'm actually more interested in the Bumblebee. I've ended up with the TAV versions of nearly every figure, but I've skipped picking up any of the Bumblebee figures. Does this one have all the paint that the TAV versions have? I'm curious about tail lights. I can't find a picture of the back of that alt mode.
Deonasis
Me too.
Its a styling choice to make a exclusive set. It is not wrong just different.
Pravus Prime
No, it's wrong.
This isn't a Generations/update/re-interpretation, this is a figure directly from an active kids TV show where he's only had one look. In fact, he's one of two characters who hasn't changed their appearances.
Chaos Prime
Wow…I might actually have to pick this up. I've been avoid most of the RID line, bc of how lame they look, but it looks like Hasbro is stepping up a bit.
rikkomba
It's not right or wrong, it's a different interpretation. The differences go well beyond 'Legends UM vs. Generations UM' or ' Legend Megs vs. Generations Megs'.
Sy-Rein
Same here.

I actually like the gun metal used on Grimlock, thou..
Timothy.R
So.. Hasbro can't even get the colors right on an overpriced "platinum" exclusive. Nice.

When I got TAV Grimlock, the very next day this set was announced and while it didn't diminish at all from my enjoyment of TAV Grimlock (Which I think is phenomenal; by far the best version of that mold), I was a little surprised to see that the US would be getting a version as well and had I waited just a few days I could've chosen which version I wanted. Now seeing finished pictures, I'm very glad that I got TAV Grimlcok and when I did. It was a great price (I got the last one in an Amazon store that had no markup) and it's a phenomenal product.

I do quite like the shiny paint jobs and plastic on both. If I could grab it at my local TRU I'll get one set for sure. Love the Battle Grimlock mold as I have handled the Takara TAV 30 version already.
