The Masterforce UK blog has uploaded images of a prototype of Combiner Wars Deluxe Groove. With Groove set to be released individually, we thought it neat to share these images of the prototype version. The images show off the prototype molded in mostly yellow plastic with clear weapons. Who would add this onto a Defensor gestalt?

Lol; Groove prototype is quite beta.

I would put yellow Groove on Betatron!

Scalping? $16 wholesale price plus shipping plus Paypal fees plus import tax of 20% per unit. You do the maths then come back with what price you get.

As soon as I realized that after all these years I still can't use a touch screen for text messages to save my life!
Nevermore
Resin prototypes are the ones colored in gray primer. Those are used as the basis for creating the toolings for a mass production run in the first place.
The weird-colored ones are made out of plastic, from the same toolings later used for the production versions.
We were mostly shown prototypes "after the fact" lately, so not a lot of people cared.
It was definitely different in the days of Energon/Cybertron and Alternators, when prototypes of varying stages for every single upcoming figure were routinely sold on eBay.
How's this possible? We learned about Drift the character from All Hail Megatron writer Shane McCarthy in 2008. We soon learned that there would be a toy. Drift appeared in All Hail Megatron with much fanfare, and following some confusion (thanks in no small part to Hasbro Australia), early toy designs sketches were shown at BotCon 2009 before we finally saw the first actual toy photos from Toy Fair 2010.
I don't even recall a leaked prototype at any point, and considering the massive hype (and hype backlash) for the character beforehand, the only people who could have possibly assumed it to be anyone other than Dorifuto-chan would have had to have been hiding under a rock the whole time.

Powerdasher Drill anybody?
Autobot Burnout
I dunno, the only prototypes I recall seeing other than those at that TF museum exhibit was the unreleased "Demolishor" head CW Onslaught and the unreleased BM Megatron head retool of FoC Grimlock that I'm pretty sure is owned by Starscream Gaga.
When did your avatar become Aplledjack?
Agreed – I recall it's seriously dwindled down compared to the regular flow we used to get like when Gen. Drift was first revealed and everybody thought he was either a new Getaway or Powermaster Boss. Hell, did we even GET any prototypes from the AoE line?
artiepants
actually, (and i totally could be wrong here) aside from the Blaster test shots trickling out i feel like it's been a good long while since we've gotten serious leaks through test shots.

'Cept this is not a retail release and is part of the prototype process? Aplled and oranges, man. There's a market for prototypes as they're wierd and cool and is something most people will never get their hands on.

Would have been interesting to see maybe 10-15 years ago. Nowadays, we're flooded with prototypes.

Oh Right… I forget.

For me it's wierder seeing front page news for a prototype for a figure already released by Takara and with fully painted in package samples by Hasbro.
Autovolt 127
Feels weird seeing a prototype for a mold that's kind of already out (Takara wise).
Turakonin Prime
Waited for so long. Never take "not being released in the US" as a serious answer when sooooo many want
Lovecraft
Isn't it usually only 15 or so? It's a limited edition highly demanded toy with a 10 dollar markup. That's so freaking reasonable by Hasbro's standards for "premium" releases (look at the Platinum) line that I can't even fathom complaining lest we upset the collecting gods.
And really it's not that bad, better than forking 160 for an entire Defensor just for Groove.

'Cept the regular version is priced at £25. Scalping much?

Messing with that 'Butter Groove' may lead to a premature Blast Off.
