Artist Matt Frank has dropped by our 2005 Boards to share with us some artwork which he will be making available as a print at Botcon 2016! The print celebrates 20 years of Beast Wars and shows a scene with the original two-pack that started off the line – the Basic class bat Optimus Primal fighting alligator Megatron! The print brings these two characters to life in Matt’s signature style – check it out, and if you’re at Botcon next week in Louisville, KY, be sure to pick up a copy of the print from Matt, and let IDW know how much you’d like to see a whole miniseries done in this art style!

Thats so interesting. So I wonder if we will see MP versions of these guys. You would think that they would have learned something by then about making the toys match the show

Skullcruncher and Mindwipe as Megatron and Primal would be a great idea with the right heads.
Tigressa101
Nice! Really like the animal bases and the smooth coloring.
For a second I thought it was a reference to Batman and Killer Croc (which would make sense somewhat). My bad!

Why reissue something you can still get on eBay for $20?
DrGrim
New toys are cool, but I'd gladly just take an exact reissue of this duo complete with pack in comic. They had amazing articulation for their time and easy, but fun transformations.

Agreed. The Platinum line is out best hope for BW toys and TBH it's way pverpriced. I would rather have individual reissues like G1 got several years ago…
BWfan86
Awesome! Now HasTak, give us some new BW toys!
Darkstone
Definitely a possibility, but I rather have an Anniversary set which would basically be a re-release of this:
Because while Mindwipe and Skullcruncher are a bat and a crocodile, there's no way they will work in bot-mode for alligator Megatron and bat Primal. Yes you could make a Dawn of Future's Past-kinda thing, but still.
I feel like a re-release of the Megatron vs. Primal set would be a cool throwback to the start of the line. But since we're not getting anything so far and since Hasbro likes to throw old molds with weird decos in their overpriced Platinum line I'm not getting my hopes up.

Am I the only one that's looking at this and seeing a Mindwipe/Skullcruncher repaint set?

I'm not one to usually comment on this sort of thing, but…
Suhhhhh-weeet!
The alligator head on Megs looks especially awesome! Nice work!
This makes me want to go to Botcon even more, just to grab one of these! WHAT ROOM OF YOUR HOUSE CAN'T BE ENHANCED WITH THIS LITHO?!? It's got a fun 80s/90s vibe, and it's just full of WIN.
The13Primes
Badass!
Spumoni Dingo
Oh man, don't get my hopes up.
As a big time Godzilla fan, it's awesome to see Matt Frank contributing to what's probably my favorite Transformers series!
Chaos Prime
Whao! Ultra Gear!
KARR
Nice! I didn't even know what Beast Wars was; just stopped by the toy aisle and was like "Hey Transformers! They're back! And they're animals made by Kenner now…hm."
Dinobot Snarl
Ohhhh memories, I had both
KARR
Awesome! I remember picking up the two pack of Alligator Megs and Bat OP at Target the same day I bought Twisted Metal 2 for the PS1.

I think the characters from the show would be a long way ahead in terms of likeliness of an MP toy than Bat Optimus and Croc Megs. The closest you're likely to get are redecos of Titans Return Mindwipe and Skullcruncher.

Hey guys,in all honesty I really hope Takara continues with the Beast Wars Masterpieces, more specifically I would kill for MP's of Alligator Megs and Bat Optimus Primal like the original 2pack from Walmart, but instead I want them in a decent size like 9 or 10 inches tall in robot modes.
And even tho slim chance have them include either comic art like on the main page or even a comic book included with the figure(s),I also know they probably won't do a 2pack of them since I have never seen them done but if they could release them in quick succession say a month or two apart I guess that would be alright. But I absolutely pray Takara will give us these in the next year or two, they are some of the coolest Beast Wars Ever.Who else agrees?
DrGrim
These were the original Optimus Primal and Megatron Beast Wars figures.

How did this start off the line? Was this concept art?
