Revealed during New York Toy Fair2016, the Transformers Robots in Disguise Platinum Edition box set, featuring a repaint of Warrior class Bumblebee and a retooled Voyager classs Grimlock from Fall of Cybertron, has been signed in Singapore by board member BattleUpSaber. According to the depicted price tag, the set is being sold at $129.90 SGD, which approximately equates to $95 USD. Will this reflect this set’s asking price when it’s released to the rest of globe? Only time will tell. For the time being, check out the sighting image after the break, and don’t forget to post your own local sightings if you spot this set at our dedicated sighting section here.

Now I understand there are collectors into RID, but isn't the core audience the younger crowd? Even at $90 in the USA, that's a lot of coin for a toy or toys that don't really do anything, no electronics, etc. The Platinum stuff is all over the place these days with no real direction for the line, it's just random figures. My TRU sells them eventually, I assume at least. I'm never seen them at any clearance type stores besides the Wisconsin sighting of Perceptor and Blaster at Goodwill.

Isn't it a slightly repainted version? The chest seems to have a bit more green than the TAV version.

It'll go great with all the other Voyager figures in Hasbro's RID li- oh wait…
In all seriousness, there isn't a price point for it.
Autovolt 127
I want this, I do but at that price….good lord.
TRU should be arrested for extortion.
[Wing_Saber-X]
I want that TAV Grimlock as well!
[Wing_Saber-X]
It's actually a re-release of the TAV Battle Grimlock mould by Takaratomy. In case you didn't know already.

That's a good question…but with RID ending this year, the chances of a Hasbro US market release are looking slim.

Why not just release Grimlock as an RID voyager figure, then he would be around 24.99 instead of adding in a shiny BB and quadrupling the price.

Never mind that Hasbro Asia operates largely independently of Hasbro US…
FanimusMaximus
Jeez I could probably buy actual Platinum for cheaper then that price.
Goaliebot
Yep, this news story was just the current excuse to post their usual. We shall see them again saying the same things in the next Hasbro news thread.

Well…remember the TRU reissue commemorative series? Those were $40 a pop on average at first. And the Japanese TF Collection ranged from $40-$100 for most toys.
Maybe there is a higher cost involved since these are reissues of 30-year-old toys, and thus they do low run numbers and have to hike up the price?
CyberDragon10K
Is it possible that Hasbro is maintaining the metal content or what have you that was in the original releases for the Platinums? Minus obvious safety law re-toolings of course (like no springs/missiles/firing gimmicks). I can't think of anything else at the moment…
At any rate, I'm happy with my lone TAV Grimmy. The paint work at least tries to match the screen model, and outside of that upscaled KO deluxe, there isn't a whole lot better. Easy pass.

I was mostly referring to Afterburner, who…well, he's Afterburner. I'm fully willing to admit when Hasbro cocks up, myself.
Blitz.
on the flip side. There a huge multi-billion dollar company that changes strategies every few years. Some years they hit it out of the park other times they totally f**k it up. I'll praise them and buy their products when they do something I like and I'll stop buying their products when I don't like them.
I don't owe them any kind of loyalty and I don't see a need to defend them when our spending money can do the talking for us. I'm not saying I'm going to go out of my way to bash them but I wont stop others unless there's something massively factually incorrect with the statement.
As for the prices of these sets. The Premium line has shown up at retail in other country still with the insane price tags. So while I agree these seem to be aimed at the Asian market I stand by my statement that these sets are a bit of a mess with no real theme and cost far too much.

Because people will always irrationally hate Hasbro, despite Hasbro being the reason we have Transformers in the first place.
Nevermore
Dude, it's Afterburner and Timothy.R. Those responses you quoted are par for the course for these two.
kaijuguy19
The prices listed here are only at Singapore for now. Notice how the rest of the figures shown at the place had higher price points too then what they normally go for in the USA? If anything we've yet to see what this new Platinum Edition set will go for here so why not just wait and see what it's actually priced here first before bashing it to high heaven?

One of the things Platinum/Year of the did right was Omega Supreme. Other than that, it's either expensive G1 reissues, weird decos, or what amounts to reissues of Henkei toys for the wider Asian market.
I don't get the logic either, but bear in mind these are intended for the Chinese/Korean/Vietnamese/etc mainland Asian market. There might be a demand for toys or decos that were Japan-only at first.
But that doesn't answer why a rerelease of Blaster and Perceptor is $110
